Thank you Carlene, Having Francis follow along was something to behold. I listened to myself on her ipad as she sewed! Success though and I'm so pleased for her. xx
I’ve loved following along with your quilting videos. Although I’ve done lots of sewing I’ve never made a quilt. Now I have all the help I need to make my first one. Thank you. It was wonderful to hear of Frances’ discovery of the joy of sewing. I felt quite teary eyed. You must have been thrilled.
What a lovely set of encouraging videos Pene. Please pass on my congratulations to Frances on her first attempt at quilting. I well remember having to make an apron in sewing classes before being able to go on to cookery classes in school way back in the 60s. I did manage to complete the apron but it was hard going, we used treadle sewing machines!! ❤
Some things still haunt us from school and are hard to shift. I'm so pleased Frances has moved on and picked up the needle now. We were expected to be able to sew even though for some it wasn't what they wanted to do! Glad you finished your apron, not easy on a treadle machine! xx
Chinwag quilt is fabulous and the joy of Francis is a joy to see, thank you for sharing. A tutorial on your fabulous sock knitting next? That would be brilliant
Oh how exciting, Frances those are beautiful stitches and very lovely fabrics. I love the colors and prints. It is an amazing feeling finishing your first quilt. Now a new story begins for you. I just love this episode. ❤ so sweet. Penelope I just hit subscribe. Best wishes ladies.
So happy for Frances! I learned to sew at about 11 years old, I am 70 and still love my sewing and quilting. I have learned a lot watching you Pene, your sewing and quilting is beautiful, thank you!
Thank you so much for creating these encouraging, well explained, detailed videos. I hope to follow along in the near future to attempt my first quilt. Your friend was inspiring with her honesty and what she accomplished - maybe I can make a quilt too. 😊
Good morning Penne How exciting for Francis!!! I got teary eyed watching this video. So much joy in your faces as you both shared this lovely experience. I look forward to seeing more of Francis’ creations. I love how you make your quilt labels. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of quilting.❤
Both quilts turned out so well. It's fun to see the beautiful fabrics you each picked and it is always fun to introduce others to the fun our hobby brings us. There is always another technique to try and you never get bored.
Oh Pene, I don't know how it happened but I missed this video! Here I was waiting patiently for your next instalment, and it was there all the time. Well, it was worth waiting for, and some. The genuine reaction of your friend when she accomplished something she thought she couldn't do was priceless. She should be very proud. She had the best teacher, and your finished quilt was wonderful. Thanks for taking time and trouble to show and explain to us what we needed to know. I'm sure to refer to these videos in the future. I feel another quilt in the making. Thanks Pene, sorry this is late, take care.
Thank you yes I am over the moon with how its opened up a new world to me and incredibly relaxing. Totally agree I had the best teacher only Pene could cut through my phobia and eradicate previous stumbling blocks like how to thread a needle!
Amazing Penelope cannot tell you how helpful your kindness in sharing all this information is. I shall follow all your helpful tips and set off on another journey 🎉😊🙏🏻
Thank you for all the encouragement and the videos made with such loving care with all the steps to look back at and check along the way. Perhaps I will wake and it was just a dream…Nope as my as yet unfinished, unnamed quilt is beside my bed xx. I shall sleep with thoughts of which fabric for the binding and quilts of log cabin design. xXx
That was lovely ! So nice to see your friend take the plunge into patchwork & quilting. Even though I have done patchwork for a few years, I have learnt a lot from your videos. I taught myself from library books [ before the youtube era ] & seeing you actually show what you do has been terrific, thank you.
I was very happy to attend proper classes for a couple of years and have a brilliant teacher which has stood me in good stead. TH-cam is great for learning now but yes, those books did the trick.xx
Very nice quilts. How sweet u are to help yr friend start her quilting journey. Her quilt is very relaxing looking. I love to quilt. Been doing it for years but still learning thanks to all you tubers. I prefer the Improve Quilting. So fun! Bless you.❤
Good morning, pene. Thank you for sharing your skills with us all. The quilt is beautiful. I love the rustle noise it makes . I feel very inspired. It was lovely to meet your friend. I'm glad she's enjoyed creating. Having a special friend to guide her must have made the experience extra rewarding. The majority of my close circle of friends don't craft at all. They are always in awe of what I make. The same phrases come out time and time again. "I couldn't do that, I wouldn't know where to start." The main one is" I haven't got the skill or patience. " My reply is always the same. " Crafting is a journey, and it truly gives you patience. " I'm looking forward to seeing next time. Take care. Xx
Francis had to overcome a lot of fear around sewing but now she has done it it will free her up to enjoy the process. Yes, those phrases are heard but we know they're not true! Frustrating sometimes. xx
I've made a few quilts now and I've picked up so many tips and tricks from you as well as lots of inspiration. Thank you so much for taking the time to record these videos and explain everything so clearly. ☺️
Wonderful to see you enjoying and supporting your friend. Thunderstorms for us here in the Dales on Sunday so our dog wasnt happy. Thanks again for sharing your craft x
Such a pretty quilt. Even though l’ ve been patchwork and quilting a long time I learnt some new ways of doing things. It’s such a joy to learn from each other so thank you for sharing your skills with us. Frances was so brave and did a beautiful job of her lovely quilt. It’s such a hurdle to get over when we tell ourselves we can’t do something. A patient teacher makes all the difference.😊
She was brave, that's the word and her quilt will be beautiful. There was a lot of emotion around whilst sewing. You're right the hurdle gets bigger and bigger the more we say it! Thanks for joining me. xx
thanks so much, Francis has such a stressful job with long hours and already she has said it has made a difference! You know, crafting helps us all. xx
I use a belt-loop off my husband’s old pair of jeans ( I save the denim) as a thimble. I sew it into a circle and put it on the finger I need it to be on.
Wow that was so lovely. The quilt is fabulous. I loved listening to your friend. She was so funny but truthful and she made me laugh. I'm definitely going to make a quilt like that over the summer. Thank you Pene. You're the best.
Thanks so much, yes, Francis didn't know I had switched the camera on and we just started! I'm so pleased she has overcome her bad memories from school and is now able to embrace quilting. Enjoy making yours. xx
Yes Pene. I went to a convent school and the nun teaching sewing told me my stitches were like horses teeth! I didn't know what she meant but discovered later in life that I needed glasses. We could do without some of the negative encounters we got at school. Lol
Your chinwag quilt looks so pretty and the finishing touches have made it a quilt to treasure. It was a pleasure to meet Frances and see her new enthusiasm for quilting. Her quilt is just wonderful and I am glad she loves it and is happy to show it off. Take care Penelope xx
Thanks, such strides for Francis, show and tell is strange when you're brought up not to boast! I explained why we as crafters do it to encourage each other and it made all the difference. Thanks for joining me for the videos. xx
The Chinwag quilt has turned out lovely!!….and it’s nice to have inspired your friend as well as all of us on here!!….thanks again Pene for sharing your skills with us all…we’re very lucky x x x 🥰
This is just wonderful. I have done a few quilts but my way. It’s great to see the proper way, for example, I have just started binding a quilt by hand when I saw your way. It is easier and neater. I watched this at just the right time. Thanks for sharing your experience.
How lovely to see Frances and feel her excitement at being able to make her quilt, it’s infectious. And Pene what a beautiful quilt you have made. I would like to thank you for showing us how to make a quilt, and everything that goes along with it, I have learned a lot. You make a great teacher and your family. Are lucky to have you. Regards to Pete I do hope he is still smiling 😊
Thank you Pene for those wonderful how to make a quilt videos looking forward to more 😊did you wash the quilt at the end in the machine? Well done Frances a fantastic first quilt ❤xx
I did wash the quilt, I wash all my quilts on a 15 minute quick wash dry flat and pop in dryer for a couple of minutes to fluff up. So pleased you enjoyed the videos, thank you. xx. Sorry for late reply Pete and myself managed to get away for a few days. xx
You aren’t alone Frances. I’ve suffered years of paralyzing anxiety over the simple task of cutting through the fabric. Completely irrational, hands violently shaking all harbored from a very poor experience taking sewing in school.
Frances will have read this and know how you feel. Letting Nurturing Parent comfort Child will allow Adult to cut through the fabric with ease! Give it a try. xx
Thank you Pene for showing how to make such a simple but pretty quilt! I think anyone could follow along and have a success! Take care.
Thank you Carlene, Having Francis follow along was something to behold. I listened to myself on her ipad as she sewed! Success though and I'm so pleased for her. xx
