For those who are unaware this is a reupload of a video I posted a week prior. Hopefully it doesn’t get taken again considering ive edited out all the times ive said certain words or phrases that go against community guidelines. This is now the 3rd attempt of uploading this video. Not really happy I had to go to this extent to make this video happen again but with all the research , editing , energy and time I put into this video along with the demand from you guys wanting it to be reuploaded I figured its worth trying again to have this video remain in somewhat its originally state on the website. So a little after 4 hours of this upload it’s been age restricted because of the lifelover artwork. Wish the previous 2 times I uploaded this video it would have told me that’s a problem even though others have the music of Lifelover uploaded in full. Guess this is the best I can get considering this is the third time posting this.
Wyat I also wanted to thank you for introducing me to one of my favorite bands today, Harakiri for the Sky. As well as all the other great insights into this genre
Thinking back on it, for all that Sunn 0)))'s Black One is a somewhat divisive release nowadays, the guest appearances from Xasthur and Leviathan were really my first meaningful exposure to black metal vocals, and that combined with my love for freaky screaming in general and hypnotic, noisy soundscapes (I was really into old-school industrial as a teenager) kind of predisposed me to enjoy DSBM later on.
@@ConvincingPeople I think I first got exposed to the atmospheric style from a really old video that I can’t even find anymore, but I just remember finding it too harsh back then. I was re-introduced by chance when scrolling through black metal playlists and saw Xasthur performing with Nachtmystium, obviously his vocals were the key thing that stood out. I’m sure you know too well that from there it’s basically a snowball of discovering new artists and getting more extreme until you hit a hard wall in terms of what your ears will accept.
History channels deal with this too. They can't talk about certain aspects of war, like war crimes and g*nocide, without getting in trouble with TH-cam.
Some of my fav dsbm albums i recommend to you Wyatt: Kanashimi ~ Inori None ~ Damp Chill of Life Begotten ~ A Waning Silhouette Sorrowful Life (blackgaze project but with dsbm undertones with it) ~ I Will Never Forget
I'm glad he just went for straight censorship for the reupload rather than saying something like "sad unaliving" black metal or something. TH-cam is so stupid
Yooo they’re gonna cure suicide by making it unknown and then everyone’s life will improve. What’s your point? Is that causing mental distress? That’s not real bro, TH-cam said.
I'll repost my comment to the best of my memory! To keep the engagement for the algorithm. To me Abyssic Hate with their album S****dal Emotions is the best DSBM has to offer. The guitars have the best sound in the genre, sounding like razor blades, but are also very soothing in a strange way.
Your ability to understand different time periods while, “not being there” is bar none. You are very well rounded in underground music, and in my opinion, extremely open minded for a young man.-Old man.
I think you should've included Nyktalgia(the debut album) here, they are not anything too "new" or original, but they absolutely nailed the sound, tone, vocals, riffs and songwriting. It's like Burzum going full DSBM, in all aspects. They are quite respected and well known, but overshadowed by the bigger bands. Probably my favorite DSBM band along with MACKY(Especially their Fri album)
I thought the member of lifelover that died was the main writer: split up in September 2011 after the death of Bergqvist, as he was the lead composer and one of Lifelover's founding members.
Jonas "B" Bergqvist; Yes, he was the driving force behind Lifelover. I believe Kim said it wouldn't be the same to continue recording as Lifelover without him.
The differnt styles of DSBM in the last decade have really been great for musical content for me to enjoy. Been finding some hidden gems lately on Bandcamp like Without the Sky - Reflections & Gravesinger - Hollow & Lifeless. For being a sub genre of a sub genre, it really does have quite a variety of styles.
Thank you for the reuploads and all the work you put in to make this and the other content that you do. I was able to watch the original video when it was first uploaded, and I was upset to learn that it got taken down. I really appreciate your effort to shed light on this kind of music, as DSBM is very special to me. I think what you're doing is important. As far as band suggestions, I highly recommend None. They're a little on the slower side, but the atmosphere their music has is some of the coldest and most bleak stuff I've heard. All of their music is good, but I suggest the album Life Has Gone On Long Enough in particular.
Glad they let it stay up long enough for me to watch this time! Totally agree on basically every point and surprised to see you pointed out some of my favorites within the sub-genre!
Aside from the “urban legend” silliness surrounding Silencer, DPM is an incredible album… start to finish. And the vocal homage to Landfermann-era Bethlehem is perfect.

I would never call Burzum DSBM, but I think that Varg was first to bring some spirituality to black metal. I would say that the Burzum debut's is what opened the door for any atmospheric or depressive black metal. Also the repetetivness of it might have been a great influence.
There’s definitely a more depressive vibe to most of Burzum, especially compared to most black metal at the time. They aren’t dsbm proper but you can absolutely see the influence
