A hidden gem guys. This is the best tutorial video on blowout you'll ever see on TH-cam. The other one that can compare would be Ken Paves' Perfect Blowout that InStyle used to show on their website 10 years ago. I have worked for the most famous stylists in the US and I have to say that this video is a perfect 10. Kudos to Mr. Patteson.
i've been watching tons of blow out videos and this is by far the best one! and her results are better than i've seen in any other video, this guy has skills!
This is exactly what most stylists lack knowledge and skill in! I’ll walk out not even 5 minutes later and my style falls flat because my roots are still damp! Thanks for this tutorial in making hairstylists better “stylists!”
I am a student, and blowouts are a week area for me, but after watching this video I have the confidence to jump in and practice my blowouts more. This video by Gregory Patterson was very helpful and detailed. I would also love to have more information on the academy. Great video.
For those saying that he's pulling and tugging on the hair ... Have no idea of the mechanics of Tension. He's using a locking and unlocking technique (similar to a marcel iron method )which is actually much gentler than the traditional Pull out method. great video and great educator. thanks Gregory
I work at a successful blow dry bar in an upscale suburb of Chicago and I can honestly say this is the most accurate video on how to give someone a blowout. Sectioning is everything!!!
Wow are there so many rude comments on this video? everything he is saying is important and helpful, for a stylist. There are plenty of videos for DIY blowouts this is not one of them....
Wow... Your instruction was amazing! I've been doing hair for 30 years now, and have never really "mastered" the round brush. It's always been awkward for me... I look forward to implementing your ideas on this awesome blow out! Thank you, and keep the awesome education comming! I'll be watching for sure!!
Thank you so much for this video. You are truely a great teacher and this industry is very lucky to have you in it. You're one of the rare gems that bring inspiration to this career. Thank you - Natalie Chanel, Hairstylist in California.
He was so informative, passionate and professional one of the best tutorials I’ve seen explaining how to get that kind of body and hold with out it looking some what unruly. Which I find is often the case in voluminous blow out tutorials.
Descriptive language is the KEY to teaching and you had perfect descriptive language! I have been in the industry for 15 years and learned more from you then I have with many amazing educators in the past year or so!!! I just would love to hear specifics of realistic timing for the behind the chair stylists....... I feel like a blowout like this is not realistic for a stylist who does a haircut and blowout in one appointment but yes if you are only having that client in for a blowout this is AMAZING education?!?!
Jen thank you for your feedback! I too am a stylist behind the chair with a full book. This is my blowout after a cut and I fit this into my 45 minutes time slot for cut and blowout. The sectioning technique used here is my MUST NOT SKIP step to make certain I give her this killer blowout in time... Thank you for the kind feedback on communication... its a challenge to get a 4 hour class into 3 minutes... did my best and hopefully it was effective! Hope that helps you!
Gregory, you did a great job teaching this type of technique in minutes. I will definitely use this video when teaching my high school students. It will give them another way to hear and see the importance of a great finished blow dry.
I know this video is old but using this technique has made me some serious tips and client requests. Also a name for myself at work. I put my own little twist on it but I'm glad I came across this video when I did.
Thank you for giving us all the facts on receiving a perfect blow dry for any hair type. I thought it was well demonstrated, the sound was great and in the end💯 the client's hair looked beautiful! Thank you for sharing 🌹☘️🌹
He is an amazing stylist and travels all over to do hair as well as he does the hair on project runway, He went to the same highschool as I did and we both went to the same beauty school. He is one of the best and this is a man you would want to learn from as he had achieved great things.
No thank you well explained well demonstrated! I'm going to look into doing a class here! I learned so much in 6mins would love to learn more!!! He's a master of his craft amazing!
I'm going to beauty school right now. And they never made a huge emphasis on blowouts. But now I see that they are really important. I learned a lot watching this. Thank you so much for doing this video! :)
Yes, need to show on curly/wavy/frizzy hair thats from sink to chair in real time so we can see how long each section should be taking and final results.
Gregory Patterson is a great educator. Great technique's. I will practice this. Gregory has excellent taste in jewelry also. Thanks for the education. I enjoyed this.
Such a helpful video and has helped me a lot when it comes to building volume in my blow outs :) thank you! The only question I have is why do you put the directional right on her hair like that? I've always been taught that dries it out a lot
Este es el MEJOR tutorial de cepillado que he visto en mis 23 años. Extremadamente bien explicado! Congratulation :) Pivot point student saying hello !
WOW! This technique is Outstanding. Going to try this on my flat hair. Needs a LOT of help. Thank you SO much for sharing :) such a great Hairstylist. Nice highlights too! I love them!Best wishes 😎⭐💈
It looks as we are going back to the 70's with the c base. I am going to the instructor course at my perfect timing. With 40 years of experience,. I felt it was time to teach now.
Malayna Tanner Yeah I felt so bad for her...I had hair dressers, they are always tugging on our hairs so hard and they don't even know how much its hurting us.
+Delcilene Deoliveira agreed !!! If she was in pain, she wouldn't sit in my chair 3x a week for the past 6 years ... She actually sells me more clients by walking to the front desk with the best blowouts!! Great walking billboard !
Love it! I'm so frustrated at home with air forming. I came for some direction. I need to get these things right. I'm going into my fifth week of cos and I'm learning pivot point
“What you need is a sectioning system” Yeah I just started the Paul Mitchell school and just recently hit the floor, blowouts (well along with other things haha) have been a nightmare for me, especially the clients I had with curly hair, everyday I’m so stressed cos I’m getting baptized by fire and have made a couple of clients pretty damn mad lol... so here I am watching your video and about to practice on my doll
Aliyah Hallam we’ve had hair salons come in on our guest speaker days and a lot of them are offering a year long apprenticeship... I’m anxious to make money but I feel like those might be good for me
Daniel Cox yeah I don’t make much money, I’m an apprentice (yeah long program with a master stylist ) and I make $10 an hour and some of the tips from the stylist I work under. However, I think it’s worth the education and you build confidence and business skills. You don’t make much money on your own your first year anyhow but that’s just my take on it
Aliyah Hallam I’m definitely wanting to do that... I also work at sephora too, I wanna keep at sephora so I can keep my discount lol. Plus I just love staying busy, this quarantine thing sucks!
I love how this was a video to showcase a blowout but the camera focused his attention on the guy blowdrying the hair??? what! they didn't even move back to show us the final results.
This video as mentioned - is a snippet into the academy experience of the blow dry series. This isn't a full tutorial nor a DIY AT HOME - it's 8 minutes of a "taste" of education at the academy. Direct message me on Instagram if you'd like to attend a session and grow your blowdry business cheers!
Good product tips, but for me, even as a pro , I use brushes " 'Click n curl 'or 'Lock n roll!' Instead of messing around barrel curl rolling and pinning! And then the hair really sets. The importance of a great blow dry is that the hair is properly dry and then cools down before letting it down or messing about with the hair. Hot hair is weak hair.

Agreed
This is the first video I clicked on because the hair looks so beautiful in the thumbnail. No other video caught my eye lol

The fact the someone had to hold a microphone for the whole demo is killing me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Its from 8 years ago.
Yeah yeah 😆

Just saw two tutorials on blowouts and by far this is the best one. You can tell on the hold of the textured big curls and high volume.
I know this video is old but using this technique has made me some serious tips and client requests. Also a name for myself at work. I put my own little twist on it but I'm glad I came across this video when I did.

**One decade later**
Nice! Thank you. What is the best way to keep the hair looking nice while sleeping? How do you style the hair the next day?
Satin pillow cases or hair wraps and always twist up into a high bun secured with hair pins.
Easy hair to work....you need to demo a model with very thick, curly, coarse hair, and blow her out to a straight,or wavy finish!
i will get right on top of that!
i agree
