When I think of old Swedish death, I think of standard. At the Gates still writes exclusively in B standard, In Flames went from E to D/D#(?) to C standard, and eventually drop A# took over later, and old Dark Tranquillity is all standard if I remember right. Theyve used drop B quite a bit though. Im really deep into the Gothenburg side of things, but the only Stockholm band I can say Ive actually listened to is Entombed. I should probably take a deep dive into the rest of Stockholm’s chainsaw enthusiasts, for more delicious filth. Thanks for making the video.
A suggestion for you ... on your next album, how about a HM-2 chainsaw cover version of the Sodom classic whose song title you quote when praising the Swedish death metal chainsaw. That would be so METAL 🤘
and if ya REALLY wanna turn back the clock on the swedish death metal sound,go have a listen 2 the '89 demo MORTAL TORMENT by CREMATORY whenev there's a free moment. another solid upload, kemosabe. keep 'em flowin'. yup.
I've been listening to all kinds of extreme shit for 20 years since hearing early napalm death but when I discovered swedish Crematory just this year by accident I was floored by their absolute rotten, grave-like sound and perfect blend of bolt thrower and napalm death-like riffs. And while typing this comment I just discovered Disgrace - Inside the Labyrith and the very first riff there is gonna take you straight into the depths of Hell
@@SoreEater actually listenin' 2 'em atm. pickin' up that 40K vibe myself here. OLDER demos w/ the BLACK & WHITE COVERS seem like the BEST tracks out there,so search for those whenev possible. thanks 4 the tip. later.
@@hostilegraveyard2849 yeah I think Inside the Labyrinth is the top record and it's absolutely facemelting throughout the whole thing. really cool you checked them out, nice to see someone interested
@@hostilegraveyard2849 btw just followed a link to Excruciate - Passage, that's also going into my hot rotation playlist right now. Better production too but still disgusting
Thanks! The Japanese is definitely classic, but don't underestimate the Taiwan one. It's a bit different, but depending how you run it, it can sound pretty killer.
The japanese models sound like a chainsaw, the Taiwanese ones sound like bees inside your head. But the parts inside differ between each run anyway. All hm-2s are good if you have the knobs right (dimed).
My 5150 iii is set to 2 o'clock on the gain, 12 o'clock on the low, 2 o'clock on the mid and 12 on the high. I was using the second (blue) channel and just running the HM2 straight into the front. I was going for that unbearably crusty sound you hear on albums like tales from the morgue and resurrection through carnage.
This is a year late but this is definitely that one friend we wish we all had
I liked the intro song so much that I listened to it again.
just played the hm2 for the first time, i am stunned that it really sounds exactly like all the previews
Lars Petrov is smiling down upon that Entombed AD, Firespawn style riff work.... 🤘🤘
Very beautifully crafted in the arts of death and chaos well done

Dark Tranquility is D# standard on The gallery and Haven. C# Standard is on every record from The Minds I to Charachter. Drop B From Fiction till now.
I was in Stockholm 3 weeks ago listening to Wolverine Blues without even knowing Entombed is from Stockholm... So interesting...
I liked the intro song so much I learned to play it
Sick as riff at 2:06
