Let's talk about how much money you may need to self-publish a book! In today's video, I'm breaking down how much I spent to self-publish Let the Rubble Fall! Feel free to share your own experience with self-publishing in the comments below!
Where is the cost of *ISBN and Copyrights,* you never mentioned them at all? Purchasing a pack of 10 ISBN costs over $200 if I am not mistaken. _Could you kindly clarify it, please?_ Shall be grateful for your reply. _Thank you!_
Fun fact, if you are Canadian, ISBNs are free! Also, glad you had such a great experience with Enchanted. I was wanting to use them for my next book, and now you sold me.
I love the cost you just mentioned here in publishing your book. It’s affordable and I’ll keep following you to learn more cause I’ve written a book and am just having challenges on publishing it
Agreed on the need for a Copyedit. I've published two nonfiction books with commercial publishers and have been involved in writers critique groups for years. This time around I've decided to self-publish a novel. After much mental hand-wringing, I selected a one man editorial service and he did a good job. Interestingly, his fee was $1,200, right in line with what you paid. So, I feel much better now. Thank you.
It's amazing that you're not only an author but also a cover designer. (The design you did for my fantasy novel blew me away!) Making the covers for my books would terrify me! And as a side point, I now I feel like I want to buy 100 ISBNS 🙈
Thank You Mandi for your amazing videos. I became an author and ever since your videos has been helping me be confident in my writing and everything so thank you.
Thanks for sharing this! So insightful My philosophy on cost is that I should make back my investments within one month of publication, so that the book begins to turn a profit. I track hours worked on each book so that I can make sure I'm getting "paid" for my time spent in addition to money spent. ROI is so important💜
enchanted ink is on my list of editors to try out since last year, so it's good to get some type of testimonial for them from someone I follow or trust their brand.
I've been toying with the idea of forming a street team for my debut novel I'm hoping to release later this year. I've heard other authors give incentives to attract people to sign up in exchange for spreading word about their books, but I don't know what to offer since I'm a debut. I think giving away free ebooks sounds like an amazing idea for something, but I don't think that would work for me now.
I sure would not mind spending the money as long as I know I could make some money on my book. I am hoping to self publish for first time this year, but not sure if I will make much. Just wonder how much I could make on KDP for first time?
I was able to keep my costs under $1,000 for my book, Blackwood. Super happy with how it came out! I used my friend's company, Literary Ladies Ltd. She's amazing to work with! And very thorough as well as quick. She said I was fast in making changes. I said, I was just trying to keep up with you! HAHA She also has a fantastic cover designer. Obsessed with my cover she made. :)
I send a newsletter asking if anyone wants to beta reader. They fill out a form to apply and I pick people who I think will be a good fit based on the types of books they like to read. My alpha readers are people who have beta reader for me in the past and I know did a good job.

@@d.c.contor pfft my best friend doesn't read and I don't have family except for my Opa he is 83 and doesn't read anything but the German newspaper. Let alone a romance novel hahahaha
Just bought 2 of your books. I'm looking to how to price my first book. I uploaded it and ordered a hard cover through Blurb, its 80 pages and high definition photos (it's an art/teaching book with photos of my paintings). I paid $91 to have the proof book published with highest quality pages and hard cover. I feel that the price may be too high for me to sell? Just so many questions when your trying to first publish. Thanks for all your help.
Hi & thankyou for your video. I have illustrated a children's book fora friend but not got it published yet. Do you know if it's OK for me to read & show it on TH-cam?

if you intend to be a serious writer the first thing you need to teach yourself is how to be your own developmental editor. It requires being objective. It requires learning to cut things that you like. And honestly... it is something most young amatuer writers NEVER learn to do. It is harder than it looks, but it is a necessary skill to have.
Hello can I get some help I'm getting a book wrote by a goastwriter a book with isbn It covers publishing on ebook but they say if I want it to be a paperback our hard cover I gotta buy marketing for 1999 is this true our a scam to get them more money

I thought you had to live in your grandmother's basement in Jamaica and had watch a youtube video on self publishing to be a freelance formatter, like my first one I hired. I see from all the unread books behind you, you live in your grandmother's basement in Florida.

The only information she gives, is how to ORDER HER BOOKS!
It's a sales play. A gimmick
Did you also pay for the font that you used in your books?
Wow, I'm binging your videos, trying to decide which route to go for my fist book. Thanks for all the great tips! You are awesome!❤

If a novel has mixed themes, what is the best way to determine its publishing world genre?
What's a copy editor? What's the most cost efficient way to source this out?

Out of curiosity why a copy editor where there are so many proof software like grammarly?
Software and AI will never replace a human editor
About how much to publish book with just a plain ,I designed cover, I wonder.

I dont think you told us what a copy editor does.
Copy editors handle a lot of the grammar and line by line editor.
Thanks for the information. It was quite useless.
You never mentioned who you use for Instagram tours
Exactly how are paperbacks sold on amazon. To the authors have to get 100s of copies made to stock amazon
So, if i only make one dollar per book, I will have to sell 1,400 books to break even?
More indie authors make $2-4 per book so you don't have to sell as much to break even
And my book has been edited for proof reading, your cost sounds too.much for me. I ll need more feedback . Somewhere.
ISBN'S are Free In Canada.
Where?
