Can't believe your actually going through all the different decades of kpop. It's so awesome seeing you looking back and experiencing this journey with you. You really can see how far kpop as an industry has come. I think S.E.S, H.O.T, g.o.d. Sechskies and maybe Fink.L were the most popular first gen groups which paved the way for a lot that is happening today (and they are still referenced and even sampled in kpop today). Another first gen artist you might want to check out if you come closer to the 00s is BOA. she debuted as a Solo-Artist in 2000 (she was just 15 in korean age). Boa is known as the leader of the first hallyu wave finding success even overseas. She is still releasing music today. Her first breakthrough Hits were "No.1", "My Name" and "Girls on Top". I'd recommend any of those to check out for a first impression.
Hey Yoshua, thanks for commenting! Yes, I mentioned on another reply, but I wanted to appreciate and pay respects to the older stuff, before even getting into newer songs/groups. It's fun to see how the whole music scene (and even the industry/business side of things!) will evolve over time. I'm definitely going to look into BoA! I've heard of her before, even though I never looked into her music. It's going to be fun to see what I've been missing out on! :p Thank you for the suggestions!
g.o.d. was a group under JYP . They were very first singers JYP signed right after he made his own company , since it was a begining for JYP to run a company the group struggled a lot . all 5 members lived in a 1st floor one room studio for years and even saving money just to eat fast food . one of the members mentioned on a KRN variety show that , one time 3 members were inside a car front of Lotteria ( Korean / Japanese burger joint ) and they gathered money just enough to purchase 1 burger to share and they cut and shared . ( Hardship from 1st to 2nd album )
This song is beyond iconic. I have no words to describe what this song means to Kpop. I think I've heard it sampled several times, because it signifies a mood or a moment, like when people sample James Brown or "Rappers Delight." The members of g.o.d. are still around, most notably Joon Park (blonde hair in this MV). He's a Korean-American. He has a TH-cam channel (Waasupman), and he's a guest on about a billion Korean variety shows.
This song is very emotional indeed 😭 Little fun fact: Back them, kpop groups used to be kind of mysterious, they kept to themselves. g.o.d.'s company decided to do something different to try to make them more popular than H.O.T. and Sechskies, which was to make them take part in a variety show where they would take care of a baby. The show was a huge success and after that a lot of kpop artists would guest on very famous Korean variety shows and later even host them and have them own personalized shows Perhaps in the future you could react to some of these shows, they are very funny 😅 Some other 1/1.5 gen artist for you: Shinhwa, Fin.K.L, 1TYM, Chakra, BoA, Rain, Se7en, Fly To The Sky
Luma! You mentioned Infinite Challenge in your other comment, but do you have any other recommendations for variety shows to check out? Sounds like that's half of the fun ;p
@@xynxreacts Running Man and Knowing Bros are 2 of the most famous, definitely recommend them! For talk shows that is Happy Together and Radio Star There also this show called Weekly Idol, channel 1stonkpop publishes the episodes with subs here on youtube. If you'd like to react to this, I don't think it will get blocked, since I saw another youtuber do it You can find Happy Together episodes here too with subs in the broadcaster official channel and other shows from the same company too If you'd like a place to start, I'd recommend Happy Together the HotSechgodRG special episode, there are a bunch idols from 1 gen on it!
I was just out of college when I moved to Korea to teach. This song and group make up the soundtrack of my first year in Korea. In fact, g.o.d.'s album was my first K-pop album to buy!
@@xynxreacts I went to Korea to teach English for a year after college as I had an interest in Asian culture, and that was 24 years ago! I'm still in Korea teaching English. I was a fan of many first generation K-pop groups at the time, but only re-engaged in K-pop music when I started a research project on why K-pop was so big. Despite living in Korea, I had no idea why fans were so enthusiastic. I have very eclectic music tastes from jazz and classical to grunge and alternative. I became a big fan of BTS during my research, and while I am aware of other K-pop groups, there are none that appeal to me more than BTS.
I'm reading all the comments but no one seems to be mentioning the OG of Korean hip hop groups....YG Family. If I'm not mistaken YG Family gave birth to the great Drunken Tiger
Hi can you also react to SB19 new song WYAT(Where You At) ? They are not kpop but a Filipino boy band here in the Philippines. I just want to know your opinion on them. I hope you can grant my request, thank you.

Wow, I'm glad they were able to get through that point in their life, and even thrive! You can tell an artist's passion from their struggles.
정말 명곡입니다 20년이 흘럿지만 지금도 잊을수없지요

I have a playlist of all the songs I've listened to so far and I find myself coming back to this one.

That's awesome! What prompted you to go to Korea initially? Are you still there now?

Really pretty song.
I agree!
