    Hello, Greetings from Bolivia. I'm fascinated with your video, however, it's not clear to me what the little things that you put behind each piece and that when you join them allow the movement (I mean the ones you take out of that little plastic bag). You may mention it, but I can not understand you because I do not know how to speak English, so my only information is the image of your video ... :( (I hope you understand my translation)I hope your answer and thank you for sharing your talent ...: D

    Hi I just came across your video. Just wanted to say thank you your advice and description was exactly what I needed.
    I have 2 questions.... Hopefully someone can answer for me. Will any thin wire/ string work? And how do you tie it?

    • @wearedow
      @wearedow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so so muchf or watching!! I'm glad it helped you!
      I would say wire is much better than string. and yes, you can get any thin wire from a craft store :D the idea is basically to keep the joints in place but still be mobile. So you don't want somethign too stiff, or else it will be hard to move, and you don't want wire with "memory" like springs, which will always pop back into the same position as it was before. does that kind of make sense and help?
      I can't wait to see your project!

      Lightly sticking your character to the background with blue tack just makes it easier to move individual parts, and keep the character in place while animating. I hope this makes sense! let me know if you have any more questions!! ^_^

      Hi Amr!
      Thanks for you comment! In answer to your questions, your final exporting options can be Quicktime with H264 compression, at 1920 by 1080 pixels (which is full HD).
      I use after effects to put all my photos together into one image sequence, at 12 frames per second. My camera is a Nikon D3300.
      If you have any further specific or general questions, feel free to ask!

    Hi, nice tutorial! I have few questions. You said that you use blue tack when animating. How do you use it? Do you glue all the parts to the board or what? How do you move the parts when they go behind other parts? For example the arm when goes behind the body, or the leg when goes behind the other one. And how much time takes to animate a second of smooth walking? Thanks!

    • @wearedow
      @wearedow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ivan! Thank you so much for the compliment!
      I use blue tack behind the feet and the body while animating (to glue those three parts to the board), so that they stay in place. it's most necessary for the feet, because it's best to have feet that are "locked" to the ground. When you start animating these puppets you'll notice that it is easy to move them out of place. The blue tack just helps keep them in place.
      You will notice, that your libs might get hooked on other bodyparts while trying to move around. Don't worry, it happens to everyone. Just make sure you handle your character carefully, because we don't want to break it :) I suggest using tweezers to move the legs and arms behing the body, because they are better for such delecate things than our fingers :)
      I hope this helps! and hope to see your work as well! :D

    Very impressive! How did you manage to make it so that the bathing windows (Idk what you call these) don't move around all the time? And how did you animate the water coming from the shower? I always wanted to try cutout animation, but everything kept moving around all the time with every little bump so it was a bit too frustrating.

    • @wearedow
      @wearedow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, stop motion can be very frustrating, but you can use all sorts of creative methods to get around the problems! :))
      For the water, I just used strips of paper and moved them around for each image.
      As for the screen, I actually added that in post in Photoshop, but if you want to go completely traditional, you can level it off on some glass, (make sire it's stuck on well) and then animate the characters without touching the foreground :))

    Hello, I find this type of art beautiful. You make it seem so smooth, seamless and simple, but I know how much skill, determination and patience it must truly take.
    My father has recently passed away, and I am making a video for him, but I need some silhouette animation as part of it. I had an idea of a life timeline I wish to have along the bottom of the screen as an overlay to the main video behind it, I want it as silhouettes, similar to what you have demonstrated.
    Just this silhouette of someone walking along the bottom of the screen, from left to right.
    Beginning the journey as baby that slowly grows into a child, then man, and as time passes the silhouette of the man is joined by a woman.
    They continue walking and are joined by four children.
    Gradually 2 of the children fade away, then the woman and another child fades away, leaving the man and one child walking hand in hand.
    The child gradually grows taller than the man, and they no longer walk hand in hand, the son starts to outpace the father, until one point where the father begins to trail and the son turns around to go back, he put his arms around this father's shoulder, and they walk together once more.
    The original man then fades away, leaving only the one grown up child standing alone, looking at a precipice, unsure of where to go next.
    I have this idea in my mind but I can't get it done, I have no skill to do this and I don't know where to turn for help, I wish I had this idea long ago when I had time, now I have 1 week. I fear I may have missed my chance.

      Hi @Smajs! Thank you so much for your kind comments, I really appreciate it!
      I am so sorry for your loss, I really hope you and your family are doing well, and keeping each other strong!
      I think your film idea has a very strong message, and it does sound like a big project to take on, if you are intent on making it as a cut out animation. I think there are some other options you can consider, that will let you finish the project in time, such as drawing still images and fading or cutting between them. Or you can make it a comic strip style, this will allow you to tell the same story with drawings, and it will still be very powerful :) Especially if you add some music, sound effects, or a voice over! I hope this is helpful for you~
      I really hope you are doing well, and coming through stronger than before! Best wishes :)

    • @Smajsitup
      @Smajsitup 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wearedow Thank you very much for your empathy and encouraging words, you have inspired me to continue in my efforts to bring life to my idea.
      I may lack your talent, but I have drawn it in a comic strip style as you suggested, and placed the frames over a video with music. Although the art itself does not move, it still emotes, and has motion in the way each fade brings forth a new scene.
      I find it truly fascinating how a simple shadow figure can evoke such emotion and expression.
      Just the simple figures walking along tell so much without speaking a word. The journey of life.
      Once again, I am sincerely grateful for your kind and eloquent response to me during such a difficult time, I hope that you continue to be such an inspiring person, and continue to create your beautiful art in the future.
      Kind Regards.

      @@Smajsitup aww! It’s not about talent or skill, that is all stuff you can learn! What you have is heart, great story telling, and a purpose for your art! that is not so easy to learn. I’m sure your piece was very moving and came from your heart :)
      Thank you so much for supporting my art as well, I hope I can keep making it for a long time 🥰

      Hi Joseph! there are some cool stop motion table setups that have rigs to hold the camera from above. I was lucky that our uni had these tables, and for the tutorial part of the video I just tied my tripod horizontally to something above my table :)

    • @wearedow
      @wearedow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      there are definitely lots of school for animation! I am at a university studying animation, but there are also workshops that you can do, that may range from a day to several weeks, or there might be some classes offered at community centers close to you.
      I can also recommend a Aaron Blaise, who is one of the greatest animators. You can find tutorials on his page:

    Hello, Greetings from Bolivia. I'm fascinated with your video, however, it's not clear to me what the little things that you put behind each piece and that when you join them allow the movement (I mean the ones you take out of that little plastic bag). You may mention it, but I can not understand you because I do not know how to speak English, so my only information is the image of your video ... :( (I hope you understand my translation)I hope your answer and thank you for sharing your talent ...: D

    • @wearedow
      @wearedow  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I Raymond! I can understand your English perfectly! :) it's great
      Thanks so much for your compliments!
      First I used blue-tack to stick the pieces together temporarily.
      see here: www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-blue-tack.html
      Then I suck holes through each piece (into the circle) and connected the pieces with radio wires.
      see here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaker_wire
      I hope this helps you! :)) I wish you all the best!
