Hayden and Ariana fell into the Clone Wars roles SO well. Also the way Hayden fades from his full dark-side expression back to his calm, collected one. He was doing his best acting in Star Wars here, imo.
I think this shows that the problem with his character in the prequels was the script and dialogue he was given. This is literally the best he has ever played the character
I think Haydens peak in star war is when he slay not just men but women and children too. I mean he internelise his role and expressed feeling of guilty from someones death
Some people say it’s a cheap fan service grab, but this was a perfect continuation of Ashoka’s character arch. Her getting to see Anakin and move on from her past, leading to live again and finishing her training, it was beautiful.

This episode was definitely a masterpiece in its own and a culmination of so many different aspects of the Filoni-Star Wars-verse. Extremely emotional experience.
A superb and emotional episode for me. Anakin is my favorite so seeing him a lot in this episode made me happy. I will always appreciate every Hayden/Anakin content.
The casting for young Ahsoka was incredible. She did a great job. My jaw was on the floor and i just kept saying, Wow! This was so fun to see in live action.
Great work with these breakdown episodes. One thing I caught was at 38:20 in the episode Ahsoka and Huyang are looking at the whales, and Huyang points out the big one, and Ahsoka responds "Yeah, that will do". To me that was a call out to Han Solo in Empire asking Chewie to go closer to the big Asteroid and saying "Yeah... that'll do nicely" and then fly into the mouth of a space worm (which foreshadows Ahsoka flying into the mouth of the whale minutes later). Just thought that was a cool connection to the original trilogy.
Seeing the purgil scene at the end made me really emotional the sense of wonder of adventure of endless capabilities of pure storytelling magic that make you believe in a Galaxy far far away that's star wars.
Hayden freaking crushed it!! Imo his best acting as Anakin yet, he seemed much more confident & comfortable in playing the role as a seasoned actor! The whole episode was epic!
That is why I’ve been a faithful viewer for 5 years! You don’t just do a review you actually show love for these shows and connect with all of us through that. Its fire brother Voss!
I can’t tell how you how many times, I got Goosebumps and screamed this Episode best and favourite episode of the series, he really did make all our dreams come true praise Dave Filoni
Seeing and hearing Hayden say Snips was priceless. Seeing them during Clone Wars and seeing Rex, tears of joy. Loved the end of the episode with the whales!
I LOVE the part where Ahsoka asked Anakin why are they back at in their first Clone Wars mission (battle of Ryloath), Anakin’s reply: You tell me~ It goes showing subconsciously that it was Ahsoka’s mind (or the Force) in lead, taking her to the timeline where she needed the console most! Anakin’s teaching to Ahsoka about their legacy also mirrors what Jiang Na shared to Shang Chi: You are a product of all who came before you. The legacy of your masters, the good and the bad, it’s all a part of who you (Ahsoka) are.
Jacen notice that the waves sounds/feels like lightsabers clashing. Hera goes to listen as well, but she is not a "force" user. Was Jacen feeling what happened through the force and "linked" his mother to the feeling? Or is Seatos strong in the force and people there can tap into it by just being there? I personally like the first idea. Jacen's unique force power is to connect people together.
I love this take. I wondered the same thing, how Hera seemed to also be hearing it. The idea that Jacen can act as a bridge to non Force users is fantastic. I hope this is ultimately true.
They've been making it a point to say that th3 force is in everybody. I think maybe everybody has a little potential and yeah maybe the planet makes it easier. The Jacen thing would be a pretty awesome super power though lol
So a little correction at 12:24, these flashbacks actually visit 3 different locations. The first is on Teth which we see after the battle of christophsis in the clone wars movie. It was one of their first missions as referenced by Ahsoka here and there is a bigger nod to that due to the reddish purple fog. When they run into battle, into the fog, you see it begin to change into a more yellow orange environment which is when we switch to the battle of ryloth
Getting to see Rex in live action is a dream come true for me. He’s my favorite character from the Clone Wars and has always been one of the coolest characters. And I love that they were able to not only bring him to live, but also meld together the phase 1 and phase 2 armor like he does in clone wars. It’s wonderful
This series... and specifically this episode... Wow. Thank you Dave; for understanding this universe and providing the best possible way for us to experience it. I am in awe.
When Hayden goes into full lightsaber duel mode, it's always a masterpiece. I also like how he kept his intimidating shoulder roll has he comes through the fog, showing playtime is over, he's going all out.
This episode was incredible, really felt like it was made just for us nerds. I love the energy you always bring to the breakdown. Thanks for the 8 hours!
The use of camera angle during the conflict between Anakin and Ahsoka was also beautiful! The camera always looked down on Rosario Ahsoka when they were talking until the very end. After Anakin steps away when she chooses life, it cuts back to Ahsoka and the camera slowly moves to being level with her.
For the first time since possibly the end of Return of the Jedi, the Force finally again feels that beautiful emotional spirituality. In RotJ the Force feels almost sacred and spiritual when Luke, fully coming into his role as Jedi Knight, tells the Emperor “you’ve failed your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me.” Like that feeling of something welling up inside of you. Not quite bringing tears, but almost there. We got two moments of that in this episode. When Jacen said “no. The lightsabers,” and you get the swell of John Williams “Force theme.” And then at the end with Ahsoka and the Purgill.
I’m grateful and in awe of how much love and care Filoni and company are treating this side of Star Wars, especially for the long-time fans. Very fulfilling!
Erik, you are just such an insightful person. You get at deeper meaning with such ease, it never feels forced. Thank you for being a fan of so many amazing stories!
I appreciate that Ashoka is a continuation and live letter to rebels, but clone wars has always been the origin point of Ashoka’s character and deserves much more credit and recognition
I like to think Anakin has assumed a role akin to the Father as a form of penance and fulfillment of his role as the Chosen One. The Father had expressed hopes Anakin would take over his position, and the Father represented balance between the Light and Dark, which are the two sides of Anakin we see in this duel.
Yes it all makes sense he would eventually replace the father. There is a father theme running throughout his character. Even Vader literally translates to father.
The music through out this episode was epic, so good. Ahsoka is very good at disarming saber wielders when she's unarmed, she did it to Maul, an inquisitor, and now to Anakin Vader. Also Anakin exhibits his arrogance and gets disarmed the same way Kenobi disarmed him in the flash back live action scene.
Cool how they worked with the lightsaber during the fog. First being when young Ahsoka first appears. With the blue lightsaber igniting, looking almost if it was from her, but revealing Anakin coming from the background.
I like to think that the Perguils that Din and Grogu see while traveling in hyperspace in Season 3 are the same pack that Ahsoka is now traveling with. Maybe even the same moment if the route of the Mandalorian was a subsegment of the loger path to Peridea. After all, these two moments are very close in the timeline.
This episode was everything I wanted to see in a Star Wars series. Superb, amazing, thrilling, just unbelievably good. I hope the next episode carries on the momentum that was apparent in this episode. I want more.
You mentioned that Hera knew Leia. There is also that Forces of Destiny episode where Leia makes Han go fetch rations from Hera after the Battle of Endor. I love how Hera makes Han say that the Ghost is better than the Falcon 😂
Thank you for working so hard for us Erik. I watched a different channel breakdown the same episode and there was only about 1/10th of the love and care you would normally put in to a video. These keep people like me in the loop who don't have time and energy to watch all these shows but still love the lore and universe ❤
Truly awesome breakdown. I wouldn't come away with nearly as much insight into this series without the details and observations that you and your channel lay out. Thank you for your attention to detail, and love of all things Star Wars! It really brings this new series to life for me. Keep up the excellent work!
Just saying how much I personally appreciate you staying up and working on this. I know it's long hours and hard work, thank you! I look forward to these after every episode and refresh multiple times a day until you post. You always give the best breakdowns!
I'm surprised that you didn't mention the nods to Empire Strikes Back. The dialog between Ahsoka and Huyang as they approach the purrgils is very close to Han and C3P0's when Han wants to get "closer to one of the big ones". The purrgil closing its mouth around them is very similar to the mouth of the asteroid-dwelling space slug closing as Han and crew make their escape.
Thank you so much for the time, effort , & joy that goes into these! I honestly look forward to these breakdowns as much as I do the actual episodes! You guys Rock!!
While re-watching Rebels S2E18 it seems the World between Worlds (wolf portal presented to Kanan into the training grounds & Ezra's vision) was teased early. Kanan Jarrus was even presented with his own "complete your training" when battling Temple Guard. "Try to fight and you will die" & "Is this the limit of your knowledge?" these feel like a tie-in to episode 5 as well
My family and I enjoyed episode 5 of Ahsoka and give it a 10 as we did episode 4. Now, Erik Voss, you knocked this review out of the park. I enjoy your reviews and hope you continue to review Star Wars content with this same energy of excitement and zeal. You were the only one that pointed out the music during when Jacen was focusing in the force to look for Ahsoka. It was also played for Kanan in Season 3 and 4 of Rebels. Having Hayden as Anakin was a refresher of what it is to be a Star Wars fan and hope that Filoni continues to use in future Star Wars content.
Absolutely awesome episode. It really hit me how the Jedi truly did create child soldiers during their great struggle. Made their legend even more tragic…
Loved the shadow over Anakin's face during the early part of their meeting. Visual duality of the character. Scar on the "dark side" of the face. Brilliant episode!
I think the Purgil that Ahsoka and Huyang is on is the same Purgil that Grogu sees in hyperspace. Going to the other galaxy. And Grogu can sense Ahsoka on it.
Nah idk about that, Grogu's reaction doesn't really ring with recognition like it would have if that were true, especially not with the way that he goes to seek comfort in Djarin's lap. It looks/sounds more like awe and a tiny bit of fear ("since when do giant whale things fly outside in hyperspace?!"), and at the same time a longing for the "pod"/family feeling seeing them flying together
"You lack conviction" Best part of this whole series for me. That line brought me back to childhood it was so much more than a voice meld for me. I think it was meant to mean more than most people have been pointing out. It's Vader doing the training. Just like his duels with Luke. Senses his opponent and speaks truth. If you want to defeat Vader: "You lack conviction"...
Absolutely great episode! So many things! Typing before watching. Loved that Jacen could sense inside WBW, and I think he projected to Hera. Great callbacks and reminders. Seeing Hayden back, again, was special. The quick flash of Sith eyes in Ahsoka absolutely showed the internal trial she’s going through. Across the board, 10/10!!!!
Wanted to point out that when we see Rex it's not a continuity error or lazy costuming. Rex is the only clone who has a Hybrid Phase 1/Phase 2 armor pieces, where he welded the Phase 1 visor onto a Phase 2 helmet as a personal preference that we see throughout Clone Wars when the Phase 2 armor comes in. The blue horns on his head also predate Ahsoka and Wookiepedia I think mentions they're a Mandalorian reference.
But I really think that this chapter can help to people that don't know Clone Wars to understand the relationship within Ahsoka and Anakin, because so far other characters had mentioned it, but for external viewers it could look like Ahsoka just appeared here like an invented padawan for Anakin, but this flashbacks allows to understand what kind of relationship they had without watching another series (I hope you understand my point, I'm not english native)
@@marink94 absolutely. I get that. But I’ll say my reaction to this episode wouldn’t have been as amazing if I didn’t binge clone wars before watching Ahsoka 😂
Ahsoka's saber style in the last episode is one that palpatine uses but we see Anakin do it on screen first in episode 2. It's actually a move that's part of one of his fighting styles. So it's assumed Anakin taught Ahsoka how to fight like that 👍

I can't believe he actually pulled it off. Bravo!
Dave Filoni is a saint@@NewRockstars
Awesome! That “there’s hope for you yet” smile is just like his smile when they last depart when he gives her the new sabers.
Seeing and hearing Hayden say Snips was priceless. Seeing them during Clone Wars and seeing Rex, tears of joy. Loved the end of the episode with the whales!
It was so cool to see Anakin again.
Way more action sequences that we were expecting!
I LOVE the part where Ahsoka asked Anakin why are they back at in their first Clone Wars mission (battle of Ryloath), Anakin’s reply: You tell me~
It goes showing subconsciously that it was Ahsoka’s mind (or the Force) in lead, taking her to the timeline where she needed the console most!
Anakin’s teaching to Ahsoka about their legacy also mirrors what Jiang Na shared to Shang Chi:
You are a product of all who came before you. The legacy of your masters, the good and the bad, it’s all a part of who you (Ahsoka) are.
Seeing the live action versions of Clone Wars Anakin and Ahsoka was unbelievable.
This episode was one of the best Star Wars content ever created … Filoni out did himself ❤
It was always stated the force is in everything "it binds us it penetrates"
It was quite stupid to do that, in my opinion.
@evok9939 what Is
So a little correction at 12:24, these flashbacks actually visit 3 different locations.
The attention to detail when it came to chopper was amazing because of his left leg being not the same leg as his other leg
Appreciate the 8 hours. Y’all make me a more complete fan of all the things I love.
Ahsoka*
Some of your team’s writing just gets me.
Such warmth and depth on the cinematic connection of the title. You deserve every subscriber. 💙
Thank you so much!
💯
@@GranthamMann He even has a son and a daughter. 👀
Agreed
I loved everything about this ep. The nostalgia is real.
Vos is brilliant! He evokes as much emotion as the actual episode by bring the nuances to light! Bravo!
Agreed. Some of the most striking imagery from the series so far.
Interesting
Yes to this. If we get a shot of that next episode that would be amazing
This episode was everything I wanted to see in a Star Wars series. Superb, amazing, thrilling, just unbelievably good. I hope the next episode carries on the momentum that was apparent in this episode. I want more.
I love watching your analysis, I usually rewatch whatever you're talking about and get even more out of it. Thank you.
You mentioned that Hera knew Leia. There is also that Forces of Destiny episode where Leia makes Han go fetch rations from Hera after the Battle of Endor. I love how Hera makes Han say that the Ghost is better than the Falcon 😂
They also helped eachother in rebels or rather Leia helped them. Lol
Yeah there was a whole episode in Rebels with Leia.
@@themuffinman5755 which episode?
@@kansairobot2015 season 2 episode 12. I believe Leia is the reason why they have one of their important ships
I think it was a cool detail that Hera was using the same model scanner that Han used on Hoth after saving Luke.
To quote Count Dooku… “I’ve been looking forward to this”
Thank you so much for the time, effort , & joy that goes into these! I honestly look forward to these breakdowns as much as I do the actual episodes! You guys Rock!!
This was such a beautiful episode!!
i loved this it was great to see how young ahsoka was during the clone wars like in animation its hard to really gauge
Episodes 4 and 5 -- my favorites so far. Had a goofy smile almost the entire duration. Good Star Wars is a precious thing.
Loved the shadow over Anakin's face during the early part of their meeting. Visual duality of the character. Scar on the "dark side" of the face. Brilliant episode!
Erik, you almost made me cry in the very beginning, talking about how much you love doing this! We really appreciate your videos, truly.
The young Ahsoka knocked it out of the park!
Honestly really appreciate the work you guys do, the hours put in.. cant be easy. I look forward to these breakdowns after every episode
"You lack conviction"
Best part of this whole series for me. That line brought me back to childhood it was so much more than a voice meld for me. I think it was meant to mean more than most people have been pointing out. It's Vader doing the training. Just like his duels with Luke. Senses his opponent and speaks truth. If you want to defeat Vader:
"You lack conviction"...
Thank you for always grinding for us. Always appreciate it❤
Ahsoka’s face off with Merick also reminded me Obi Wan’s vs maul in revels when he kills
I was about to give up on this series, until Episode 5. I hope they build from here. Seeing Hayden as Anikan again was dope!
This. His phase one armour has the shark fin too and doesn’t have the round chin.
Hands down best reviews on YT. You blow even the pure Star Wars focused channels out of the water with your reviews. Love you Eric
So excited for my family who has never seen clone wars to be confused why Anakin’s here 😂
They need our Breakdown to understand it ;)
But I really think that this chapter can help to people that don't know Clone Wars to understand the relationship within Ahsoka and Anakin, because so far other characters had mentioned it, but for external viewers it could look like Ahsoka just appeared here like an invented padawan for Anakin, but this flashbacks allows to understand what kind of relationship they had without watching another series (I hope you understand my point, I'm not english native)
@@marink94I completely agree
@@marink94 absolutely. I get that. But I’ll say my reaction to this episode wouldn’t have been as amazing if I didn’t binge clone wars before watching Ahsoka 😂
@jackcoker2372 yeah, it's amazing if you know all the history, BUT if you don't, I think it's understandable
A beautiful episode of Asoka, and a great video explaining it all …Thank You for the great work
This was an amazing episode. I feel like some of the critics , especially written ones, didn't really see why because it was so lore heavy
These episodes just keep getting better
Ahsoka's saber style in the last episode is one that palpatine uses but we see Anakin do it on screen first in episode 2. It's actually a move that's part of one of his fighting styles. So it's assumed Anakin taught Ahsoka how to fight like that 👍
I have been looking forward for this
