  • In a thrilling Atlantic Coast Conference matchup, No. 2 North Carolina rallied to defeat Duke 99-86, sweeping the season series for the second consecutive year. Donald Williams played a pivotal role, scoring 8 of his 21 points during a crucial 20-2 run in the second half. Jerry Stackhouse contributed 24 points, with 14 coming in the second half, as the Tar Heels (22-4, 12-4 ACC) erased a 10-point deficit to secure the victory.
Despite Duke's strong first-half performance led by freshman Trajan Langdon's 23 points, the Blue Devils (12-17, 2-14 ACC) couldn't maintain their lead. Duke carried a 44-38 advantage into halftime and extended it to 62-53 early in the second half before North Carolina's comeback.
North Carolina seized the lead for good at 63-62 with 11:08 remaining on a dunk by Stackhouse, sparking a decisive 20-2 run. Williams and Stackhouse fueled the surge, with Williams hitting key jumpers to put the game out of reach.
Jeff McInnis contributed 17 points, Rasheed Wallace scored 16, and Dante Calabria added 14 for North Carolina. For Duke, Langdon finished with 23 points, while Jeff Capel tallied 18, including 15 in the second half. Eric Meek scored 16 points, and Cherokee Parks added 11 for the Blue Devils.
