Sounds like a song that would have been all over the radio when I was a teen in the 90's. That was a magical time...for us older farts that grew up then...at least in our fading memories that grow fonder with each passing year. It really was the last time to experience the wonder of coming of age without social media and all the shit that must come along with that for kids today. Anyhow, enjoy the music and remember to look up from your phones every once in a while!
Me and my best friend, Agustin, loved this song. This was our song when we were dating and we listened to it all the time. He passed away about a week ago and listening to this song just reminds me of us so much. He got me one of your vinyls and you all signed it. It’s my favorite gift I have ever received. Thank you for being a big part of his and my life. I’ll continue to play your music when I visit his grave so he doesn’t miss the new releases. Thank you 💛
I had the pleasure to see this band opening for DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE in Cologne last week. THE BETHS really have great potential. I bought the debut album - one of the best debut albums of the last 10 years, incredible catchy and dense. I hope that they will receive the success they deserve.
Crazy, I finally searched this song on TH-cam after months of listening to it on Spotify expecting 10 mil views, to find only 311k! It deserves way more as it's a classic hit. Just wanted to say I love the singer's NZ idiomatic vocal mannerisms such as when she says "future heedaches" and "i'm defeeenseless".
Summer 2020. I matched on tinder with a girl I’d had a thing for since high school. By the fall, what was originally supposed to be a long-anticipated hookup turned into a budding relationship. Spring 2021. 6 months into this passionate but turbulent romance in troubled times, I come across this song. I think about how much it resonates with me - how I think this girl is probably going to break my heart one day, and how I want to risk it anyway. I add it to her playlist. November 2023. Today. I’m packing my things to move out of our apartment. We broke up two months ago, and two weeks ago stopped trying in vain to patch things up. All the things past me warned future me about came true. Future me hates past me, but it was still worth it.
I mean the following with the best of intentions, no snark implied... At least you have a brilliant song to attach to all the good and bad memories of this relationship.....
@@declankennedy4379 I found out you needed to be fully vaccinated plus a booster at least a week before the show.... there was no time to get a booster and thus I missed the show T_T It's a big disappointment but sometimes life hands you lemons and you play board games at home instead.
Heard this song on the radio half an hour ago and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Using my (limited) knowledge of the lyrics I was able to find this video. I'm really chuffed.
Ngl, this song speaks to me a lot, especially given the year it was released: 2018. 2023 me vehemently hates 2018 me, especially given I was very young and careless in 2018 and now, I'm not so young anymore.
As someone who produced a music video show in the 80's and 90's, and who's never stopped listening to new music, this is genuinely my favorite song of 2018. Looking forward to their US tour later this year.
After having a couple years to digest this incredible tune, I have to agree with you. The lyrics and melody are as good as pop/rock songwriting can be, and they've arranged and recorded it brilliantly.
Love this song, which I found through my Spotify Discover playlist. After my third or fourth listen, I thought to myself that I was listening to the musical successor to Rilo Kiley, who I miss dearly. Was not surprised to then find that the Beths' lead singer idolizes Jenny Lewis and credits a Rilo Kiley album as the most influential album in her life. Looking forward to listening to the rest of the album.
Thank you for this! I just heard this band today for the first time, thanks to Joe Scott. One of the other songs I listened to by th Beths made me feel a strong Rilo Kiley vibe. I was lucky enough to see Jenny Lewis live twice. Once with the Postal Service and then a Rilo Kiley show. Now I will be looking for the Beths to come to the USA after these lockdowns finally end!
The sound of this song perfectly sums up the wonder of childhood and also the pain of losing it and growing old... idk it makes me nostalgic but in a weird way
awesome!. the music scene now reminds me of when i was in my 20's and you had blake babies/ juliana hatfield, veruca salt and liz phair. lots of cool women in music today. i love it. i love liz's accent.
last monday i saw liz phair with speedy ortiz. and friday night i saw swearin'. juliana hatfiled joined liz on stage for a song...talk about a star studded week of awesome ladies. this friday i see weakened friends...annie and sonia, week after is breeders...week after that is joy formidable and tancred and the week after that is mannequin pussy. ive got shows for days.. oh crap...lemuria and bethleham steel is in there too. geez thats a lot of driving..

this is better than the time I took LSD in a leisure Centre and watched a live production of the children's show "button moon" they are very similar, but this is better

The chorus always makes me smile. I love how Liz's kiwi accent comes through on the word "Headaches." Perfect indie pop.
hiddaches
To me this song sounds like Taylor Swift wrote a song for ABBA and they recorded it with The Breeders and George Martin as producer.
The Marlborough Sounds is the tell-tale.
the chord progression gives me pinkerton vibes.

"Future Me Hates Me"
I never wanted to, I didn't want to fall
I don't believe that love's a good idea at all
Oh this well designed world
Everyone that I know is broken
And has fell for it before
And sometimes
I think I'm doing fine
I think I'm pretty smart
I'm quite convinced that I
Can keep myself up high
Oh then the walls become thin
And somebody gets in, everything's less
But it won't happen again
It probably won't happen again
But there's something about you
There's something about you
There's something about you
I wanna risk going through
Future heart break, future headaches
Wide eyed nights late lying awake
With future cold shakes from stupid mistakes
Future me hates me for, hates me for
It's getting dangerous
I could get hurt I know
I've counted up the cons
They far outweigh the pros
Oh and if word gets you down
It's a mob or a sound, I am drowning
It's too late for me now
I need you sticking around
Cause there's something about you
There's something about you
There's something about you
I wanna risk going through
Future heart break, future headaches
Wide eyed nights late lying awake
With future cold shakes from stupid mistakes
Future me hates me for, hates me for
Future heart break, future headaches
Wide eyed nights late lying awake
With future cold shakes from stupid mistakes
Future me hates me for, hates me for
Future heart break, future headaches
Wide eyed nights late lying awake
With future cold shakes from stupid mistakes
Future me hates me for, hates me for
Future heart break, future headaches
Wide eyed nights late lying awake
With future cold shakes from stupid mistakes
Future me hates me for, hates me for
Future heart break
Future cold shakes
