- Another recent arrival to the junkyard is this 1990 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe. Overall it wasn't in too bad of shape outside of some passenger side qaurter panel damage. It was all there inside amd out with the interior really just needing a good cleaning. Under the hood nothing seemed to be missing from the 3.8 liter v6 with the eaton supercharger. The oil didn't look bad either. I wonder what did this bird in.

I know I’m in the minority,But I always liked that body style.
I know a guy who's a member of a Super Coupe club. These guys were hard core in their dedication to these cars back about 20 years ago. They constantly scanned yards and made many junkyard rescues, they would have grabbed something like thi out of the yard if they could. One member even had a CNC machine where he would make custom parts for other club members. I think the members that are still around have moved on to Coyote Mustangs.
I was an SCCoA member back in the day. I had a 93. These cars had some hard to find parts even back then like the DIS module.
Good videos Benny,appreciate you.
Whoa Nelley, "Thunder Heap" part two and it's over for you. Yes, 1989 was the start of that body style. My sister had a 1990, but it was a regular LX model. I never cared for it.
We got the VIN, we win: 1FA for US made Ford passenger car, P for automatic seat belts, P64 for Thunderbird Super Coupe, R for 3.8L V6 with supercharger, 9 is a check digit, L for the 1990 model year, H for Lorain, OH assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Lorain, OH plant operated from 1958 to 2005 as stated previously.
We got the tag, we can brag: YO comes back to Oxford White exterior paint in 1990 (this is more like code E4 for Vermillion actually), so this vehicle was painted at one time. TF for red interior trim, 9 for AM-FM stereo radio with ETR, cassette and clock, E for 3.27:1 rear axle, locking, T for AOT four speed automatic overdrive transmission, DSO of 47 is for Cincinnati, OH. Yes, I believe it was an Eaton unit. Looking now, it appears that this car may have been white originally from what I see inside the fenders, and this is confirmed by the under hood tag. We got the buck (tag), we're in luck: 9L for Oxford White exterior paint, TF for Red interior trim, and 47 for DSO code of Cincinnati, OH, among other codes. Another reason I dislike Ford: they can't even use the same paint code on two different tags. You've got YO on the door jamb label and 9L on the buck tag. Both mean "Oxford White". Why not use the same code on the two different tags?
Whoa Nelley, the 'Bird was always a turd. 3.8 and never great. Oxford White soon to be out of sight. That's it, time to quit. Made in Lorain and always a pain. Thunderbird SC and it's not for me. Going to be flat and that's that. Super Coupe was always a dupe. Going to get squished and yep, once again, just about no one in the free world, including the Google Man is going to be pissed.
Another bird Flys away!!❤
Every dam one of those were red or silver around my neck of the woods
Keep doing videos on Thunderbirds specifically 1983-1997s. Also Taurus SHOs from 1989-1999
I would agree with that
Thanks Benny, always enjoy .
Love this channel
Mr. B. Here ! 👀😎👍 Had one as a Ford Demo in Sunrise Red witch look like pink in the sun ! Nice ride , but it suck in the snow even with snow tire ! Seat were very comfortable ! 🍸🍸🍸🍸
The Super coupe was a cool car !
Merry Christmas !!!
This one isn’t in that bad of shape either. Another possible save!
Agree. That one hasnt been picked over yet. Complete except for the wheels. Maybe someone will save her.
You've been busy lately Benny and we appreciate it.
Great video.
That steel overdrive pulley for the supercharger you were looking at is prob the reason the car is at the junkyard, blown head gasket! They were notorious for blowing the head gaskets around the the 90k miles mark, depending how hot they were being driven between weather, and driver being hard on the car. Unfortunately its a very expensive repair on these cars, unlike the Ford 3.8 that isn't suoercharged. Its not so much parts, (although some parts are so rare they are worth there weight in gold) but the labor a mechanic would charge you (assuming he knows what he is doing or getting himself into (lol). This along with the tempermentalness of these cars makes them hard to keep. Fortuantely my 93' 5 spd. Supercoupe runs like a champ because all the repairs, mods. and maintenance I do myself. It's 1 of those cars unfortunately. However ask me or any owner how happy they are driving a Suoercoupe and they will tell you they drive like no other.
Man, if that passenger ground effect wasn't destroyed, I'd love to go grab those effects for my clean 95 TBird that has the V8 in it. Always wanted the ground effects for mine.
I think the thing I liked best about these cars were their seats.
reminds me of my 86 Honda Prelude I loved that car
My neighbor had a beautiful Thunderbird super coupe like that up until It got wrecked
The one year I always loved. was the 88 thunderbird turbo coupe in manual!. Almost the same amount of horsepower(190) and had a great front end with hood vents . 👍
I made a video on an 88 Turbo Coupe right before this one. was a manual as well
@@ClassicRideSociety cool! Idk how I missed that.. l’ll have to check it out . Great channel . Keep it going! 👍
Worked with some salesman in Toledo where the Tbirds like that one was the bomb. They had the other ones like what was in the other video too. They said they were some fast cars, their boss and mine drove the SHO Taurus.
Put this ol bird in dry storage for about ten years and triple yer money.
If its an anniversary edition, they only made around 3,000 of 'em.
15,000 automatic SCs left the factory in 1990. Might be worth saving...
You'll just have a rusty heap in 10 years, worse than you have now, with parts for it likely being unobtanium.
All the cars I liked back in the day are all getting crushed now.
Benny and the jets another one for sleeperdude.
agreed. these Thunder chickens🐔 have sleeperdude written all over them.
I think it was reading 192,000
That's sad ☹️
Mr. B,
Where is located that yunk yard?
Saludos!!
Little John's wrecking YARD in Ft Worth Texas
Are you back in Texas?
Yep
What a *WASTE* on the yard's decision. They should've at least tried to sell it. It wasn't a rot box, the interior was faded but complete, and the engine looked to be decent! All they did was keep the wheels whatever good that does!
Sad to see all these 80s & 90s classics get scrapped. People will and are coming for these as EVs become more mainstream & the only option.
Super Poupe
😄
Exactly what it was in 1990 and what it is today.
I had a red on red 93 SC from 2000-2005. That was a very rare color combo.
Wow! Do you ever know your engines!
Ah, yes the Super Coupe...it's where it belongs 😁
That’s so sad.
