- No other German state has such a diverse landscape and such a distinctive and down-to-earth culture as the Free State of Bavaria. In addition to the charming nature with the highest mountains in Germany as well as huge lakes, idyllic river valleys and even large plains, the Bavarian customs in particular determine the charm of this unmistakable region. Strictly speaking, there are actually two regions. Bavaria is divided into Upper and Lower Bavaria and the Franconian regions in the north. Upper Bavaria and the Alpine region are, of course, particularly well-known throughout the world. "Lake Chiemsee" is one of those self-redundant things, since "Chiemsee" is "Lake Chiem", so it's more properly just "Chiemsee", but I suppose that one could say something like "Chiemsee, the large lake between Salzburg and München"...nah, just Chiemsee....again, delete as you like.
But i'm learning stuff, didn't know much about Bamberg (except painfully trying to drive around there! )

Sorry, but the pronunciation of Berchtesgaden drives me crazy.,.
The first part is almost like Bear-chtes and the "gaden" is not like "godden", but has a more definite "a" sound, not like "bad", but not as soft as "father"...what a picky guy, but these little things kind of reduce the 'credibility' a little.... delete this note, if you like ;-)
