Thanks so much for the review Mikko!
Wow 😁
This is really interesting. In my head, I see the altered scale as a mixolydian scale with everything flatted except the root, third, and dom seventh. And, more than practicing the scale itself, I spend time playing little phrases that come from the scale, still seeing them as variations on a mixolydian, and listen to how they resolve to the tonic. I find those little phrases in context are more memorable and singable than the scale per se, which seems to help my improvising be more melodic.
thanks for your honesty
What a great lesson! You show us mortals how you can internalize these sounds. Thanks for another amazing insight!
Glad you like it 😎👍
Very interesting book. Great lesson and very clear explanation. Thanks.
Glad you like it
sounds great Mikko
Went to see Mike Stern play yesterday, got home and found this video, bought the book. Thanks for the review!
Nice 😁
Great lesson
Thanks for this great video. 💯
Wonderful teacher!!!
Love the singing of the phrases.
Sounds great. I have a few of those Fundamental Changes books - the two Jens ones and the Ulf Wakenius bebop sax for guitar one. Really good stuff in all of them
Yes I have to get those Wakenius books
@@Mikkokosmos you should. The Charlie Parker chapter alone is worth it.
I love your channel ..
I love the harmonic minor and all of its modes. It is like a diminished (half whole) scale meets an augmented (whole tone ) scale. If you play the first four tones half whole and then the next three are whole tone, you've got it. So it is the half half-whole, half whole tone scale. At any rate, i want to learn more about it and just ordered this book. Amazon says it will be here tomorrow.
Thank you.
Thank you friend!
From Colombia and Venezuela
Nice Example, good lession 👌👌
Glad you like it 😎👍
@@Mikkokosmos 👌👌💪💪
Whew! For a minute there, I thought you were covering a book I didn't already own.
😆
Great lesson here! Unfortunately I'm really lazy 😊and for this reason on altered dominant chords I play almost all the time major arpeggios half step from the root or 3 tones from the root of the dominant chord. Somebody say that this is a silly shortcut but it works very good. This is "a trick" that I've learned in an old Les Wise book. Anyway the Mike Stern book is wonderful and I will purchase it ASAP. Another very good books on this subject are MELODIC MINOR REVEALED and HARMONIC MINOR REVEALED by the great Don Mock. Thanks again foy this great video.
I studied with Don Mock at M.I back in 1990
I think if you can hear those #b 9 5's against the root and sing them like your doing it's major no pun intended.BRILLIANT VIDEO MIKKO
Major thanks 😁
I like their books. Jens Larsen has 2 books from this publisher and both are great source of knowledge and vocabulary.
Yes I have one of those. Very good stuff
Thanks Mikko, good information and sounds. Is the action on those solid body D’Angelico guitars pretty good?
I agree, proper notation is really important. It's not a picky point, when you're looking at minor trying to read it, a weird accidental throws you off. I was thinking of some way to work around this when I get it, maybe re-do the problematic exercises in Finale.
Thanks for the patreon etude pdf and video. I've had this same book for some time but haven't had a chance to delve into it. That superego you're using sounds interesting. You mentioned it is used for sustain but when I looked it up, it says it has synth capability. I checked some other demos and I haven't heard any of the basic demos make it sound as good as you're getting it to sound. Have you done any review videos on it?
I only really use it for sustain I haven't found any other practical use for it (yet)
Me suscribo ya.
🇲🇽🤙🏼
I love that guitar so much. You put it to good use though, so it's in good hands. 👍
( how much by the way? Just a ballpark figure if you're shy. I'm looking for a guitar to grow old with).
Many thanks. I always learn something.
Thanks that model is not super expensive. A litle over €1000 perhaps?
@@Mikkokosmos Sweet. Thanks. ❤
Mike stern Is a monster
YES'SIR!!!!!!! 🤩💯🤘

Hi. What do you think about ted greene's altered scale naming system(types I, II, II)?
Not familiar with that system but I am about to order all of Teds books so.. 😎
@@Mikkokosmos (little spoiler) It's just how he categorized the altered scales into type I (b9), II (b9,#5) and III (b9,#9,#5) which include chord forms, arpeggios and scale shapes. I guess those sounds are distinct enough for him to do it.
@@Mikkokosmos His chord books have some Holdsworthian finger stretches plus some!.
Excellent lesson and I love the strap! What brand is it?
That's the Pat Metheny strap 😁
Everything except the tonic is flat! That's a way of thinking about the altered scale that I hadn't heard before. Thanks!
- what is/are,most problematic hands/fingers movements on guitar
during chords changes of course?
Your top 10 :)
Mikko do you have a lesson On Scofield ?
A lot of MS scale stuff is from Miles when he played with him!
I think one of the biggest discerning factors between those who learn efficiently and those who just wander around is, ... do you have a gig. When you have a gig, when there's a believable concrete purpose and goal, things sort of arrange themselves in a priority order, and you can focus efficiently. A lot of "jazz greats" had a gig right from a young age, they played shows in a real band, or in church or whatever, it was real. :)
What amp are you using?
Do you owe the revenue from this video to Yngwie because you played the harmonic minor scale?
😅 No but he owes me at least one of hus Ferraris
The scale is Out of tune
😅
There lies the beauty!
Jazz is jewish.
