      @@digiblurDIY You are great with the rules. I don't think anyone else takes advantage of these as much as you. I know I count on the learnings from you to copy functionality but I suspect rules are so powerful a lot more can be done with them. I will continue to piece together my understandings as it's definitely helpful to see results from strings of rules. GREAT video Travis!

    Revisiting a number of the older videos again. Now that I have smart bulbs. I plan on using my MJ dimmer, just like the one in this video to control my zigbee smart bulbs in the bathroom. I hope to have a number of preset that I can call up. Should be fun. The fact that you can do long and multi-press on all 3 buttons is great. Guess the biggest limiting factor will be the small space of the rule buffers. Been looking at the rules info in the docs. Can do plenty. Still amazed what the team has done with Tasmota for the ESP system.

    More absolute gold! All this smart home tech has got to catch on to the masses soon. I really appreciate these niche videos. Do you or could you sometime do a deeper dive into timers? I have started using them to try to fix issues but have ended up making new issues. Had an automation that turned several lights inside and all outside lights upon our arrival at home, if it's dark, then 10 min later, turn them back off. But, I'd let the dog out like 7 minutes after I get home so while she is out, the outside lights go off. So, trying to make the timer extend when the command to let the dog out fires(have a servo controlled sliding door), so the lights stay on but every time I think I have things fixed, I seem to find another issue. I've been trying to do more with HA automations and tasmota, and less and less with Node-RED.

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually haven't messed with timers much as a lot of my stuff relies on other states not available to the switch. I have NodeRed flows for this.

      @@digiblurDIY might be forced to go that route, but between the gui improvements and your MQTT help, there isn’t all that much I need node red for these days. I’d love an actual in person class for home assistant and for tasmota.

      It is brain overload for all of us. We digest one piece at a time, and call-out for help on the others. It starts to mesh - really it does. keep playing with it, keep reading and keep watching. Can never do enough. Keep in mind Tasmota and Home Assistant have gone through a lot of functionality and principle changes - don't get frustrated because you fell behind. This community is amazing, Digiblur has been at my call more times than I would like to admit. I contribute when I can and I have tried to be a MASTER of Tuya convert to help others. The problem with that setup is that if the wifi or mqtt is down you lose control of the light. As you recommended on the other video im using this rule to avoid that: rule3 on Mqtt#Disconnected do rule1 0 endon on Mqtt#Connected do rule1 1 endon

    • @digiblurDIY

    I'm like Travis T. I'm very new and your guides have been helpful. I've done the wiring, so my lights are on, and the switch does not control the lights. I tried to use your commands, but the switch is still not controlling the lights. How does the switch on one IP address talk to the bulb on a different IP address? I know I'm missing something... probably a lot, but it doesn't make sense to me how the switch can communicate with the bulb, through a rule at the switch. Thanks for the guides, they've gotten me this far!
    Edit: Ok, so it looks like this is the part where I set up and use mqtt in Home Assistant. Like I said, I'm probably only a month into using HA and these are my first two Tasmota devices, so I'm still working on that learning curve.

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you enable the rule? Be sure to check the syntaxes of the rule too. No IP address is needed. It sends it over mqtt and it takes care of the IP stuff.

    I'm newer to HA and recently picked up an impulse buy of Gosund DS1 (Dimmer Switch) before I realized there's no real Tasmota config or ESHOME firmware available. I can't find anything other than your first video showing how one might go about checking out how the thing is built, reverse engineer it and perhaps contribute to the ecosystem myself. Any thoughts on where to begin? I've been able to flash a generic Tasmota OTA. To date, I haven't been able to get my HA to properly show a new MQTT device, but I need to follow your video again on it. Thanks for all your help so far - please keep making these.

    I'm using a Feit dimmer from Costco. It's flashed with tasmota and working perfectly in Home Assistant with dumb led bulbs. It's set up in tasmota with the Tuya MCU. At 90s you say that the long press won't work with the Tuya MCU. Do you know if there's any workaround for this? Happy to explore any rabbit hole if you get me pointed in the right direction.

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. Unless you have some way to change the code on the TuyaMCU to send over a long press to the esp8266 and then have Tasmota pick it up as long press.

    • @jxdean
      @jxdean 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@digiblurDIY Gotcha. Thanks for the insight. I have no way to change the code on the TuyaMCU. I guess I'll pick up some M&J dimmers for our high traffic areas and stick to the Feit dimmers from Costco for anywhere else we want a smart switch. It's hard to complain when they're currently $25 for two switches.

    What makes the Martin Jerry dimmer different than other Tuya dimmers? Specifically why does this switch have a long press available and they don't? I was thinking about getting a different Tuya dimmer, but I really want the long press.

    • @digiblurDIY
      @digiblurDIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I mentioned there is no TuyaMCU so you can do whatever you want with buttons unlike the TuyaMCU style ones where the esp8266 becomes a dumb pipe/wifi radio basically. Makes it very flexible dimmer!

    Great video. I just found your channel and it's been really helpful. I just bought the MJ dimmer. I want to install it at my front door to control my front porch light (non dimming dumb bulb). I would like the dimmer buttons to control smart bulbs in lamps located in the living room. These bulbs are lohas bulbs. The bulbs and MJ dimmer are flashed with tasmota. I'm can't bypass the hot wire because then my outside light will always be on. Is it possible to do your setup without bypassing the hot wire and have the dimming buttons only send commands to the smart bulbs? Thanks!

      @digiblurDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, glad it helps out! So let me get this right, the dimming is still needed for the outside lights but you want to do some other functions to double up on things to control the lohas indoors?

    • @MichaelSendelbach
      @MichaelSendelbach 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@digiblurDIY The dimming is for the living room smart bulbs using the two dimmer buttons. The big bottom button is for the outside non dimming dumb bulb. The dimmer is wired to the outside light, so if believe if I wire it with the bypass like you showed, the outside light would always be on. Can I wire it without the bypass and have the dimmer buttons not affect the outside light? I want the dimmer buttons to only send commands to the smart bulbs in the living room. Thanks again.

    Two questions, 1. After adding the switch in this configuration, is there a way to adjust colors via the color picker? I made a separate light group but using that can throw your switch power state out of sync. Thinking of making a switch1 long press to reset the light color?? 2. The power toggle LED on your switch appears to be blue, mine is purple. Is that something that can be changed?

      The blue light isn't configurable as it is hardwired. If you don't want the red LED on making it purple then you can use a rule to make it turn off when on or turn off as well when it is off.
