All influenced by Frank Frazetta paintings. 60’s/70’s Italian horror posters are works of art too.

I like how the poster has a sabre tooth tiger as Ators companion, yet the movie just gave him a bear cub.
This channel is comfort food. You MUST check out “Yor: Hunter From The Future”. The hanggliding scene alone should have won it Oscars.

Did Cecil cover that already? I have the distinct memory of a GBF episode with a barbarian individual on a hang glider, can't remember the episode name though sadly. Maybe it was one of those films with a ton of alternate titles?

Holy hell! I saw this as a really little kid on cable and could only remember a guy dressed as a barbarian fighting a giant spider on some temple steps. For years, it has been that movie for me that you have feverdream memories of but don’t know the name. Thank you very much for closing out this lifetime mystery for me!

Oh wow!! This is one of my FAVORITE bad flicks! Once I started staying up late by myself in middle school, this was just about the first cheese fest I watched. I loved the sword & sorcery/Conan knock-off movies, but even my middle school excitement couldn't fool me into thinking this was a good flick. It was such an absolute stinker, but what a fun stinker it was! Thanks for exhuming, er, spotlighting such an important movie for me!
I'm torn between these and post apocalyptic "Mad Max" type knock offs!
Nevermind the fact MST3k and Rifftrax does these movies, thumbs up for the John Daker reference 🤣🤣🤣

I hope you review more Conan Knockoffs like this. So many Sword & Sorcery movies of the time like Deathstalker, Conquest, Beastmaster and Warrior and the Sorceress were hilariously enjoyable.

Sometimes I wish Wes Anderson would just admit that his films have more to do with D'amato and Mattei than he would like us to believe.
The art for all of those movie posters is great. Also that little bear was so cute--I'd be distracted.

Thanks Cecil for another hilarious episode. I've always enjoyed Ator as the silly film it is, though the whole spider cult gives it a creepy vibe. I don't know how the actor who played Dakkar managed to find the courage to work with all those spiders.
So happy Darkforce Entertainment released this on Bluray a couple years ago with a sweet Glow-In-The-Dark Slipcover.

Cheese it may be, but that poster is badass.
That was usually the problem with these '80s fantasy films (and a huge portion of B movies until around the '90s or so). They almost always had incredible poster art that the films couldn't ever hope to live up to. I mean, Boris Vallejo was more or less the go-to for Roger Corman's fantasy films (e.g. Deathstalker, Barbarian Queen).

Btw the spider king was Dakkar (his real name), the dude named Lucas from Fulci's Zombie.
He was a musician and pro wrestler as well. He passed away in 2007.

Some of them got released under 2 or 3 different titles, but there's:

2. "Ator 2: the Invincible Orion", aka "The Blade Master", aka "Cave Dwellers"
3. "The Iron Warrior"
4. "Ator III [sic]: The Hobgoblin", aka "Hobgoblin", aka "Quest For the Mighty Sword"

So Ator has the same origin as Moses. Creative. At least Superman shook the formula up a bit by shooting the baby into space and having the planet explode.

I remembered seeing this some time in the mid 80s when it aired on NBC television was limited at the time before cable in northern California Sacramento and VCR there was at least 9 or 10 channels i knew it was a knock off but i didn't know from where this introduced me to the beautiful Sabrina Siani know as the Italian Brooke Shields also other Italian knock off Blue Island and White Cannibal Queen when she was around 17rs old
So many good movies...

I seen this back day as kid it was awesome now seeing as adult it's kind of Age but it's still cool plus the artwork for the cover reminds me of Golden Axe which inspire me play The Golden Axe game at the arcade when I was a kid that movie was good times good times
