Very nice sounds. Well done. I have many synths, of which some are true exotics like Oberheims, Waldorf Q & XTK, JD990, and many more. But honestly, the Cobalt 8 is an incredible piece of synth. If you count in its sound quality, its character and its price, it almost has no competition. It's a top synth for a low price. I did sell my Hydra, I did sell my Iridium, but I kept the Cobalt... It's sounds way deeper and fatter than the Hydra or the Iridium. Simple as that. Don't fool yourself.
I was going to pull the trigger on the Hydra purely because of its 32 slot mod matrix but I could never get over its harsh abrasive tinny sound. The Cobalt 8 on the other hand has less modulation capabilities but sounds way better than the Hydra so I made my decision to pick up the Cobalt 8 based on the only thing that really matters. How it sounds. Still waiting for the Cobalt in the mail but at least now I know it was a good choice. (Edit) I do realize that the Hydra can "sound" however you want it to but trying to coax great sounds out of something can become exhausting. I know I'd personally lose interest diving too deep looking for Hydras pleasing side. Just to clarify (not Hydra hating)
@@lateralshiftmusicnot the guy you responded too but I'm having such a difficult time picking between the argon and cobalt. I wish there was a comparison for 2024 with all the updates
@imaflymydroneatit mine hasn't arrived just yet! I think if you prefer more traditional analoguey sounds rather than crazy digital wave tables which you can mangle up then you would prefer the cobalt, it's all up to personal taste? The cobalt still has some interesting algorithms as well I've seen which you can absolutely use yo create cool textures and pads. I just wanted a polysynth which I didn't have to break the bank for , I have a moog minitaur which is good for basses and lower lead sounds (really wish it went above C4 but that's another story haha) but was missing a polysynth to create some sweet pads and nice higher tones.
Deep, deep sounds there. I have the Cobalt 5S and these noises could help me to reevaluate my purchase as I was considering letting it go. You seem to use a lot of 'verb, is that the included reverb? It really seema to add a lot to the uniqueness of these soundscapes. Can you recommend an inexpensive pedal based reverb? The 5S has only Delay and Chorus FX included.
Thanks. The reverb is really not that great imo, but yes I’m only using the internal fx of the Cobalt. As for pedals, I did have an Eventide H9 but I sold it as I prefer using VST FX via my DAW, Ableton. I usually buy from Plug In Boutique as there are always sales. The Blackhole VST by Eventide is great and is usually on sale. So can’t really advise on pedals as I found I could do much more complicated fx chains in my DAW, for a lot cheaper than a standalone pedal.
No plugins used on this. This is just the sound of the Cobalt. I sequenced it on my Maschine +. That has some nice FX on it, particularly Raum, but not used here. I did another video with my Juno 60 and the FX from the Maschine +.
I don’t have the Minifreak but I did think about getting one but went for the Hydrasynth Explorer instead. No regrets. Cobalt is a great little synth, great app to edit it with as well, but the company has went bust so no more updates to the synth and the app.
i am not a big fan of ambient but these demo and sounds are very beautiful and special. cobalt is one off my beloved synths . i was chasing for good virtual analog and i bought a cobalt 8 and very loved this thing. but my insatiable nature wat talking to me what i miss ? and i bought hydra first buts still my mind didn't not gave me up what i miss with more expensive synths and i bought a PEAK . after a year of using them i can say PEAK considered the most superior product from these trio . i agree peak has very good layout and big fool sound with very good and instant effects . but i dont know how to describe this but its nothing special in its sound and its very lack of HF . hydra is ok but filters and fx are average . now cobalt 8 there is something special in this precise , clear, soft sound for me with so beautiful high frequency content that so lacks in novation peak . its something hypnotising in this blue beauty . i sold my hydra module , still afraid to sell novation peak in case i miss something in this synth

Agreed it’s a great little bang for buck synth. I got mine band new for a fantastic price as well.

Look forward to picking these up when they're available!
Nice sounds dude. And above all, nice playing. Quite like your choice of chords and melodies :)
One of my fav synths in my collection! =)
Yes! Stands up well to the rest of my synths!
i love Cobalt ♥♥♥
The patch at 8:38 is so so nice! Do you have any patch notes for how you achieved that unstable glitchy quality?
Try the lofi effect and automate the bit crusher.
Help! I don't know what to choose for trance music (supersaw Leads Pads and nice roll basses) Hydrasynth Explorer or Cobalt8?
Thanks! And what about the basic sound of argon8?
As always, very nice sounds. Is there a soundpack in the making?
Thankyou! Yes, hopefully in next couple of weeks.
@@crybo Any news on the sound pack? 🙂
Sorry not anytime soon, been busy with life and decorating. Also got a Hydrasynth Explorer and been spending too much time with that!

@@crybo Good info, thanks. I was unaware Eventide make VST FX so that's something I'll check out, along with Strymon etc. Subbed of course!
Are you planning on making these patches available to the public? If so, when?
Hopefully before the end of the year.
i need to get firmware and sounds for the argon 8m site is down. links please?
I'm sure you've seen that they are back up now. Modal went through a restructuring after going bankrupt.
How did you get it to sound so lush what plugins/hardware do you you use?😃

Very nicely played man. Even on youtube. I am sure it sounds even better live.
What do you think of the argon 8?
do you still ❤ it?
Yes! I have actually been working on the soundpack for it today.
Great atmospheric sounds! ❤ I have an Aira S-1 and a Reface CS, and I'm torn between this or the Minifreak for my next synth upgrade. Any thoughts?

One hell of a noise maker...
How are the Dub chords on the Cobalt. Really curious... seems like a very capable device.
Yes can do them no problem, plenty of onboard fx to play about with.
dub chord game strong, but stronger on minifreak tbh
Dope..ð
The first 15 seconds sounds like a vacuum cleaner sucking out a set of Venezuelan pan pipes
That is exactly what I was going for!
Shame the company couldn’t stay afloat.
Yeah, the last update was really good as well. Shame.
Huh? They are still around. The Carbon8 is coming out soon.
