    Rubik’s recently released a magnetic speed cube that’s pretty decent. Turns much more freely than previous versions. However, the quality control of the magnetic version seems to be lacking compared to other cheaper magnetic 3x3x3 cubes.

    I'm thinking about making a 60mm 2x2 by using the corners of the qimeng plus , and a 2x2 ( maybe an mgc or an mgc elite ). How do you think I should approach it? By using the corner pieces as some sort of shell , like with your 54 mm 2x2 video or should I try making it more of a 2x2 piece by extending the stem? Would love to here anyone's take on it. Thanks!

    • @SpeedCubeReview
      @SpeedCubeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I make a larger 2x2 by 3d printing extensions it was quite simple to design. It was a 54mm I believe.

    You should try the CubeTime timer it’s very good and everything is easy to find as messing around some, mainly by swiping down
    Edit: only for IOS

    Hey I seen a rubiks speed cube similar to this at a dollar general. Was wondering if it’s the same. And if not what the differences are. It’s $10 and corner cutting isn’t great but not bad. I might just need to lubricate it to get it to turn better but idk.

    • @SpeedCubeReview
      @SpeedCubeReview  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it says a "Rubik's" brand it will be similar to this. There have been slight variations made over the past 7 years with each model being slightly different. Cornercutting was never that large but they are all able to get times under 10 seconds.

    I'm wondering... Is the new 'Rubik's Crystal' using this new mold or an older one. I really want one just for the aesthetics of it, but I saw a video of someone solving it and it seemed way faster than I was expecting for a Rubik's brand puzzle.

    • @SpeedCubeReview
      @SpeedCubeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's the older version but even that was great. I have a video on it.

    • @MangoTangoFox
      @MangoTangoFox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpeedCubeReview I think the one you did a video on 2y ago was the 'Neon Pop' version. The 'Rubik's Crystal' was teased 3-4 months ago and I think it's only been actually available for a month now... It says SpinMaster on the box, BUT looking at photos, the edges/corners are solid with caps, not split in half/thirds like the one you show here.

    • @BH-in4nl
      @BH-in4nl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new Crystal version is not quite like this new one. The pieces have these little edges on them that stick out on the sides to keep the puzzle together. The pieces themselves are more rounded though. Certainly not like a traditional speed cube core. Although you can corner-cut very well on the Crystal version.
      It is very fast and aesthetically pleasing though. I would recommend it to anyone that likes to collect Rubik's (or speedcubes).

    I just purchased a new Rubik’s Cube and the back of the box has the Spin Master name but it is clearly an old version. Is there another way to tell if it is the updated cube before purchasing?

    • @SpeedCubeReview
      @SpeedCubeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm. Possibly the shape of the pieces. The newer one is a little more rounded/bubbly

      New Rubicks cube uses tiles for its colors, old one uses stickers.

    • @SpeedCubeReview
      @SpeedCubeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There have been a few different models that have had tiles. The spin master one just came out within the year and other models have been using tiles since about 2015.

    My question is ... does it differ somehow from Gan / Rubik's RSC ??? Because on video it looks very similar... if not identical about the design of blocks

    • @SpeedCubeReview
      @SpeedCubeReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a very different design as far as cube design goes. The RSC was mostly a 356 with slight smaller corner cuts

    The rubiks brand has never made sense to me. Their fit and finish is always so nice, their branding and cubing adjacent stuff is cool, their weird challenge puzzles are sometimes really neat (curse you impossible cube!), all with so little care paid to the actual puzzle mechanism. WHY‽ You were first! You were the chosen one! Innovative engineering can be risky but not when your level of brand recognition is "no one even knows what this is actually called besides your company name". The worst part?! They've proven they're capable of it. I have the Bluetooth Rubiks and it's a solid performer. It's 11 freaking pounds so of course they had to screw up something, but it's proof of... I don't know. Something.
    I got my hopes up for this one for some reason lol.

    • @kyh148
      @kyh148 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not made for speedcubers. If it at least turns smoothly and doesn't catch when the faces are aligned, that's good enough. It needs to be really sturdy and hard to open so people can't "break" (yes I know it's not really broken, but in the eyes of a new/non-cuber) it easily.

    • @JunJun238
      @JunJun238 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i think it was made like that as it was "made for kids". 8 year olds getting world records doesn't really justify that anymore. I'd say, keep doing the regular 3x3 the same for actual beginners, and make their Rubik's speed model be actually competitive to modern day speedcubes so Spinmaster could cater both beginners and pros with different models.
