Thank you for releasing these. I grew up watching Britons on PBS in Canada. And would always see the Thames intro. Just recently discovered this channel and all these amazing clips and shows. You guys were lightyears ahead of the other channels especially technology shows in Canada and the US. Traveling to Japan and buying random chipsets in I'm guessing Akihabara. And glimpses of scenes like this are so interesting to view. Anyways thank you all for your works of digitizing these and sharing them much appreciated 👍
built early 70's derilict by 1980,flats were so damp they were uninhabitable, amazing they could get it so wrong but was all a package deal, councils had very little input into them
www.towerblock.eca.ed.ac.uk/development/hyson-green-area-redevelopment-phase-ii Completed 1970, being vacated by the mid/late 1980s. Looking at that recent Bolton fire (softwood supported balconies ffs) I'll wonder if the current cruddy student blocks they are throwing up will last even that long.
I used to play there,my mate lived in the flats. The flats were actually pretty big as i remember. The underground car park is where the knee cappings were dished out between the druggies. To be fair most of the residents would have trashed where ever they lived, architecture etc always gets blamed but if it was inhabited by decent people it would have not turned into a shit hole.
Mr Nobody Look here, just because I live in a nice house it dose I mean that I’m spoilt . I’ve just never lived on an estate that’s all . Only said what I saw . And the Richardson’s weren’t In the Same league as Ron and his brother . Ron was totally Gorgeous, and virtually everyone was scared of him !
Mr Nobody Look here, Ron was feared by everyone and that’s a fact . Who has all the films, documentaries and books made about them ? The Krays that’s who . Your “hero’s” hardly get a mention 😂No one like Ron !!🥰🥰
Mr Nobody The Richardson’s got long heavy prison sentences for violent crimes including torture . Don’t recall Ron or his brother torturing innocent people like your “ heroes”. Ron only used violence when he was provoked or been crossed by some one . He was a gorgeous man . You are wrong and I’m right on this
Lot of people didnt have indoor toilets still in the 1950s...no central heating, leaky roofs...so long as it was new, warm & cheap, a lot of people probably didnt much care about the 'charm' of the place.
Brutalist style architecture, all gray concrete and steel with no green spaces. And, the irony: 0:47

It's a poverty gulag. People would have been healthier living in mud huts in the countryside.
Beautiful, they really went all out on making it look great.
I was employed by "Nottingham Contractors" at the time of the demolition of this eyesore of a site.
Looks like a prison
Oh the good life
Looks a very GRIM and Nasty place. Must have been awful to have lived there !!
Mr Nobody It can’t have been worse !

Inmates will be allowed 1hr of sun per day.
Real nice. That Stalinist, brutalist use of concrete to suck the last ounce of joy out of living.
This was where Asda is now?
How have you've been see anything elevator to find are they, mate?
Wow, what a place... That is, pretty ghost place gone be derelict it is... Anything see quick inside to find elevators it is?
where was this exactley?
Hyson Green in Nottingham
It's what they replaced all the Terraces with.
Now it's an ASDA store.
Very bleak how this was ever thought suitable for families to live beggars belief.

You have at least a little cozy garden if you live on the groundfloor.
now ASDA!
This doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the Divis flats in Belfast 1970s
Oh alright but it’s still a shit whole
Great film sets , not any good for human living tho
Grim.
Looks like a post-Brexit Britain
yawn
