    I used to own a beach house at Bolivar. The surf at High Island is alive with bull reds this time of year. A lot of kayaks, but they can be caught from the bank as well. They run the guts in the surf. That was awesome catching those reds on camera.

      +robertintexas I do go to Bolivar for reds. I was going to go near rollover tomorrow but the seaweed is kicking up so i will do some other fishing for now. Thanks for watching

    I was actually sceptical of fish bites when I first saw videos of it. I bought some and man they really do work. You can catch anything from small croaker to large bull reds.

    • @IntrepidFisherman
      @IntrepidFisherman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes and since they stay on the hook so well you can leave it when getting nibbles and wait for the full hook up. The only "bad" thing is the little mesh they leave when all the bait is gone but just be sure to have some simple plyers with you and it is no big deal.

    I caught a 14 and a half inch croaker two weeks ago at TCD.

    • @IntrepidFisherman
      @IntrepidFisherman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John Macias II wow that is a big croaker.. That would be awesome.

    • @jestersfury
      @jestersfury 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Intrepid Fisherman Yeah it was crazy I thought it was a little red but nope. It was croaking instead of the deep drum noise the red make and there was no spot and also the croaker do a little thing where the make there gill plates stick out to poke you and reds don't do that.

    • @tommyle831
      @tommyle831 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Macias II baby reds can have no spots.....

    • @jestersfury
      @jestersfury 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fishing.Folife Yes I know that but this wasn't a red. I caught many reds sizing from 2 inches in a cast net to bull reds on a boat. I also caught many croakers and this was in fact a croaker.

    • @BRad-qy6xi
      @BRad-qy6xi ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s called a golden croaker, they are females, and much larger than the males.

    Does this pier still exist? I've just been fishing off the rocks hooking black drums and bull reds.

    • @IntrepidFisherman

      @@IntrepidFisherman oh ok I thought it got wiped from hurricane Harvey. So where is it exactly once I enter the through texas city dike? Left side?

    • @IntrepidFisherman
      @IntrepidFisherman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes left side. It has a gravel area for parking. I think it is like 2-3 mile area. You should see it easy though. It is the only dock with a T shape.

    • @randomlybruh
      @randomlybruh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@IntrepidFisherman thanks for the reply. I saw it last night actually with a bunch of other spots on the left side. I went on google earth for the search. Caught a few sand trout and a 27in black drum with blue crab as bait.

      +swager boy#KTL it is very shallow but it is also very hard to see even 1ft... I know flounder have been caught there just not huge numbers. Maybe now that real colder weather is settling in there will be some more numbers. Thanks for watching

    • @KillItandGrillIt
      @KillItandGrillIt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a crappy place to fish unless you're after croaker. That only happens in the fall and it happens everywhere .

    • @KillItandGrillIt
      @KillItandGrillIt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Dike and Sea Wolf park get far to much pressure. Even my local park before I made any video about it has had people from Houston coming to fish there for several years now. Fall is the only really good time and they just built a RV park on the land right on top of my best hole so I'm sure it's going to be trashed now.

    • @IntrepidFisherman
      @IntrepidFisherman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. I don't even go to Sea Wolf anymore just due to he cost. The dike is free at the right times at least. I try to go when the booth is gone or during the off season because getting skunked isn't worth $5 haha... If I have a choice and the time I would much rather go more south to all the jetties and oil rigs but it just takes 2 hours to get to the best places from my house so that is only for the pre-planed trips with overnight or very early morning options and an all day stays.

    WHEN YOU CAST WITH YOUR SPIDER WEIGHT WHAT DID YOU DO TO SHORTEN IT UP FOR THE CAST???

    • @IntrepidFisherman
      @IntrepidFisherman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hook the eye of the circle hook over one of the legs. It comes off when it hits the water or even in the air and gives you a little better cast radios. When using a pyramid weight you can sometime get the point of the hook on the edge of the weight for the same affect.

    • @thebionichandman8967

    Would it be a good idea to get a surf rod for the dike, or would a 7' work just fine? I'm a bass fisherman and I'm really new to inshore fishing.
    Great video, btw.

    • @IntrepidFisherman
      @IntrepidFisherman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kerry Colwell i use a 10ft surf rod from the beach and from this dock sometimes but you don't have to use that. If you watch some of my other videos from this same dock i catch fish with all kinds of rods and tackle. My favorite rod for here is my Ugly Stik 8ft spinner with a Penn Spinfisher V 6500. Perfect setup for most dock fishing. 50lb braided line.

    Can an ascend fs12t make it to the rig you go to

    • @IntrepidFisherman
      @IntrepidFisherman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zack Mercer I have no idea. But it is only part kayak. The other part is experience. Don't go that far out if you're new to kayaking.... Also never ever go to a rig alone. But if the kayak is stable and you can stay on it when a big fish bites and pulls you all around then I would say yes but I do not know anything about that kayak. Be careful out there and just remember everything in the ocean wants to eat you
