Gunung Besar, also known as Big Mountain or Gunung Ulu Ringat, is tucked away in the northern wilderness of Sungai Siput, Perak.
This off-the-beaten-path mountain has recently opened its trails to hiking enthusiasts - crazy hikers like me who are eager for a new adventure. According to Den, our singing mountain ranger, we were the 4th group to summit Gunung Besar in 2023.
It takes a whopping 395-kilometer drive from Kuala Lumpur to Sungai Siput just to get to the trailhead ... the dreadful 36km 4x4 from meet-up point to trailhead reminds me very much of the ride to Gunung Chamah 🤮 video here ~ • G5 • Gunung Chamah • ...
The hike from the trailhead to the campsite is fairly easy, except that the trail is rather raw, with plenty of chopping and a fair bit of navigation required.
Also, you'll have to carry loads (tent, ration). While you stop to catch your breath, beware of the pesky sandflies and mosquitoes. So, be prepared with all the repellents and wear appropriate clothing... suggest that when you are at the campsite, avoid seluar pendek.
Gunung Besar can be conquered in a day in the future when the track is clearer ... so for the time being this would be a 2-day 1-night hike & camp!

wahh, you guys so lucky! been there 3 weeks ago, didn't get the view at peak 😢, but the track makes me miss gunung besar ❤ ohh some tips, you can Autan cream to avoid mosquito and agas ☺️✌🏿
