They did this because Lisa, who plays Phoebe was really pregnant in real life so the writer put her pregnancy in the show. You can tell that too Cody if you want to. This one of my favorite episodes😊

The thing about Phoebe is that she ALWAYS looks on the bright side, which is amazing when you consider how traumatic her childhood was; her dad skipped out, her mother committed suicide, her stepdad was in jail, she was living on the street homeless as a teenager...yet she never harps on any of that. She has an ICONIC line about it (I think it's in a later season) where she says she is trying to write a sad song, "But nothing that bad has ever happened to me." And when Monica says "What about your dying, or having to live on the streets?" Phoebe just nods along and says, "Yeah... OH! I could write about when my hair did that woo-hoo thing!" Phoebe never dwells on the bad things, never agonizes over the cons, she just always sees the pros. She couldn't even stay resentful towards the father who abandoned her. Literally the only person she can't find a positive side for is Ursula.

the phoebe surrogacy arc was written in as a storyline coz the actress Lisa kudrow got pregnant for real. having said tht it wasnt badly thought out. u need to understand the social fctors of when tht episode came out, surrogacy was not all tht common. the makers of friends really wanted to portray "atpyical pregnancies" and to decrease the social taboo of them. im sure at tht time some couple esp women going thru surrogacy felt some sorta acceptance watching the show. when i first saw it i was also feeling some kinda way abt how quickly phoebe agrees, but i think they handle it well tho so now im glad they did it.
Fun fact; the part with the blue blazer black and with Rachel and Monica taunting Chandler, it wasn't scripted. Blue blazer black was a blooper and the ladies went with it

The eating tic tacs in even numbers, I actually do that too. Sometimes I even chew two pieces of gum at a time, but only the long lasting gum. I think it's an OCD thing.
Lisa Kudrow, who plays Phoebe, was really pregnant in real life so the writers included her pregnancy as a plot point. Also, they're going for various ways of having a kid - Ben has two mommies, now we have surrogacy...
Joshua was played by Tate Donovan who was also the voice of adult Hercules in the Disney movie. Monica screaming 7 over and over again reminds me of Sally Albright's "fake orgasm" scene in When Harry met Sally.
In my opinion that first one you watched is one of the funniest ones in the entire run of the show, just the little sex tutorial Monica did and then the payoff for it makes me die laughing every time. Edit because I forgot these two episodes are right in the row, and I think that the second one you watched is equally hilarious, especially with the game they play. Two very strong episodes right in a row, because they never fail to make me laugh so hard I cry, and I've seen them like hundreds of times at this point I think.
I do think it's in character for Phoebe to make a big decision like that in the way that she did. Her deciding that as hard as it may be to give up the baby, it will be 10 times more amazing to do something for Alice and Frank... that seems like the very big-hearted Phoebe we know and love. She goes for it, she goes with her heart. Rachel and Monica, on the other hand, would have agonized over the decision for a while.
One thing that I hate about this show is how they always get rid of characters that had such a build up for literally nothing, like relationship ones, everytime we see a build up for a character to be in a relationship the writters always get rid of them in the most stupid way possible, Like Monica and Pete in season 3 we had a huge build up with Pete trying to hard to make Monica to like him, just in the end they broke up in the most stupid way with him wanting to be a fighter, we saw the whole Chandler and Kathy saga with Chandler trying his hardest to not do something to her and the Joey and Chandler fight and Kathy almost leaving, we had such a build up just for Kathy to cheat on him, they were only together for like 3 episodes, I love Friends but when they create a huge build up between 2 characters it seems they always find a way to get rid of 1 one them off the show in the most weird way possible
The Embrios is my favorite Friends episode, but now when i watch it i get annoyed because the girls shouldn't have lost the apartment. In the lightning round, as soon as Rachel said a transponster, Ross should have asked another question, just like he did when Chandler gave a wrong answer to the pencil question, but instead he let them try to come up with an another answer and let the clock run out
That was on the girls though. They didn't give a wrong answer like Chandler did. They just got stuck on that question til the timer ran out. But either way, at that point they'd only so far got 1 question right. (The Viva Las Gaygas one - they got the one about how old Chandler was and the name on the TV magazine wrong). There was no way they could get 4 right answers in 10 seconds.
The reason why they decided to have Phoebe carry their baby is because she was pregnant in real life so they had to create a storyline so that it would make sense why she was getting out of this weight
Lisa Kudrow aka Phoebe was pregnant in real life, so they wrote it into the show. As for the surrogacy plot, though I couldn't imagine being surrogate, because I couldn't emotionally handle it, if I were a surrogate, I'd want it to be to a couple who I felt could provide a good, safe life for the child. Frank Jr. is barely out of high school by like a year and he's dumb as a rock, so I wouldn't trust him to not unintendedly put a baby in danger just from stupidity, and Alice and him are mainly living off her income as a teacher, and teachers don't get paid much, even then... then it's revealed at the doctor's office that they spent their entire saving (which is really Alice's savings) on this procedure, so there's no extra money for a baby and how expensive babies can be. So, though this pregnancy arch has some funny and sweet moments, if I think about it too much, I cringe, because there are red flags everywhere that doing this for Frank Jr. and Alice is highly questionable. And that's not even considering the physical toll on Phoebe. Women can literally die during pregnancy or birth, so doing it on a whim for such a problematic set of potential parents is not something I'd ever want to do.
18:31 Aaannnddd...you teached the reason why the process has suddenly become "controversial" in the past year. If you're the kind of dunce that thinks an embryo is a full human being - not even a viable fetus; an _embryo_ - that constitutes unaliving in some dunderheads' minds, since the process, by its current nature, requires multiple simultaneous implantations for reasonable effectiveness, and most will likely not implant. Why this is controversial, I don't know, but as the past several years have proven, we are now stuck in stupidworld.
*taught. And I don't understand why you're going for Nick's throat. All he said was he thought it was just 1 embryo being implanted. It has no deep meaning, just that Nick does not know about the surrogacy process.

I swear, recently, people have been acting like pregnancy is nearly a death sentence or something super dangerous. Like yeah, there CAN be complications but my god, people nowadays act like there's a good chance of straight up dying if you get pregnant now. It's ridiculous. If you're a healthy woman like Phoebe, you're almost definitely going to be fine. I mean - I know why this view has appeared out of nowhere, but I wish it wasn't so prevalent. I've seen girls say they never want to have children JUST BECAUSE "it's super dangerous" and that's incredibly, incredibly sad.
