As you have probably noticed I am a very informal beekeeper...I wear NO SUIT so I also send any nasty queen to the great hive in the sky. That being said, I have only ever had to do that once or twice, just lucky I guess, but as for swarms I LOVE them they are so much fun to play with, not that I would breed for them but they don't make me lose sleep either.Good video and good advice for the newcomers to this game.Scott
Fair enough. Most of my hives are the same as I produce lots of nucs and I do so much splitting that honey has become a by-product. The quiet natured hives produce just as much honey and just as much brood as the grumpy ones so I have run out of reasons to keep the grumpy ones around. Cheers Chris
Hi Chris. Good Video. Luckily here in Scotland 🏴 we dont have angsty Bees (like Africanised) and I guess, that is, more of a problem in America (re Southern States.) We are starting our Bee Season here, yet the Weather is giving a final Cold Blast. Going to be below freezing tonight and tomorrow. Bees here are as hard as Nails (mainly great natured and well bred for colder climes.) Nice ! Hope the Fruit Trees get to give us Fruit if the Blossom doesn't get Frosted tonight. 🥴 Watch your Channel and David Burns one too. Hope to Breed some of my own Queens from the Hives I have. Thinking I might try the Demaree Board [DIYed] one for my Warre Hive. As this Hive isn't common, I needed to grab scrap timber and cobble something of sorts. Watch this space. 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2023 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Hope you had a good Bee Season in NZ. Wonder how many Hives got Trashed by those dreadful Weather Events that NZ had. Seemed Auckland and Areas got hit time after time. Hope all can be put back on track for your next Spring.🤞 Hope your Beek Industry recovers soon. 👀
Great advice. Btw, I’ll be coming to you for some queens next spring if you have any spare. My favourite two hives had your queens in them but the hives requeened themselves this season and unfortunately must have bred with drones from a bad tempered queen. I now have hybrid workers that are much more defensive.
Hi Tasha, yes I will have queens in the spring. Its good to hear that my queens did well for you. Unfortunately they don't live forever :), Plan on mid to late October at the earliest. Cheers Chris
I asked him why he kept them. He wouldn't answer then he said ask him on the live I did I listen for a little while I didn't hear him bring it up so I went to do some bee work
I think he just made a mistake because he was focused on showing the viewers a method of how to prevent the hive swarming and wasn't thinking about trying to solve the grumpy nature of the hive at the same time. He made a throw away comment about having to replace a queen in a defensive hive in his last video. Mistakes are something we are all guilty of from time to time. Me especially :) Cheers Chris
I got rid of the queen and and got a queen cell out of my good one and put it in there haven't had trouble no more

I agree with you on this one and yes David Burns is a very good beekeeper
my grump of a hive gets stripped of all brood for the mating boxes, i keep that queen around because she provides resources for my bee work

@@KiwiWildman I like my bees. Not going to put up with hot ones
Good advice
Glad you liked it
Great advice, we also don’t need those angry, swarmy drones mating with new gentler queens,
Ah o don't watch mine...😅
