The only reason Americans are eating too much sodium is because of the prevalence of processed/convenience/junk/fast food they consume. If you are making your meals at home from mostly whole/minimally processed foods, then it’s fine to add salt. In fact, please do. Your food will taste so much better. And when you drink water, it flushes the sodium from your system. Don’t be afraid of using salt.

I've never been a big salter!
My sister is a big salter! A number of restaurants we go to definitely don't use a lot of salt. 🧂 But I seldom add salt to my meal.(unless it's very bland) 😉
Certain foods like potatoes are never salty enough and avocados always need a touch of salt. But this is how you learn to use salt in moderation.
The purpose of salt in cooking is to enhance the flavor of food. It's a necessary ingredient but it doesn't have to be used excessively.
If used properly, it balances the flavor of food and no additional salt is needed at the table!
Salt is used by some excessively, just like super! But controlling the intake is the key!

Actually not true that all people over use salt. I never once added salt to my food because if you're not a season your food you don't eat salt. Plus there are a lot of diseases out there that you actually need salt given somebody would like me with like eight automated diseases three from a rare I don't have a lot of salt on my body and I always have a blood disorder too as well so I actually need salt even though I'm not a big fan of salt anyway. So not all people overdose on salt it's just the ones that don't understand that sodium can kill you and it can destroy your heart and cause a huge amount of other issues. So just because you have statistics and you go by satistics do you know my doctor told me that my upper right quadrant pain one time was IBS even though obviously they knew nothing about IBS and my gallbladder exploded I'm literally almost died because she was stupid. Or the fact that I had super swollen legs one time and I couldn't walk I needed a cane and I'm an athelete by the way and she told me oh I was fine. Fine while I end up in the hospital pulmonary embolism 46 of them and with Lupus anticoagulant disorder that I didn't know I had all because she was uneducated about what blood clots are and apparently would IBS is and she told me statistically I'm too young for my gallbladder to explode so my surgeon took out my gallbladder I told him what was going on and he was like before you I took out a nine-year-old's gallbladder stop going by statistics doctors he literally got so livid that doctor.

you should get electrolytes, not just salt. Your body releases them in a certain ratio, and good sports hydration products (I've been told liquidIV is good), not something like prime, will generally try to closely match this ratio, which will make them taste somewhat salty but that's inevitable if the product is effective. As for himalayan, it's obscenely overpriced for a few trace impurities that give it color, certainly not worth paying for as it likely has no perceivable effect, at all, on anything except your wallet, I'd say for salt get the normal table stuff, most people should get iodine, which it conveniently includes, and if that really bothers you then get kosher or sea salt, those generally don't have it, I can't tell you which foods contain it though
edit: athletes are the exception, because the average joe for which this number is obscene is overweight, and the only sweating they do is probably between their belly flaps, if you sweat a lot then there's a warranted reason to take in electrolytes for replenishing

I've more or less cut out processed food from my diet and rarely eat out, and I work out often. I also donate my plasma bi-weekly, and no matter how much water I drank, I would often fail my check-in since I was dehydrated. After experimenting, I cut down my water intake and upped my salt intake (salting food to taste, eating sauerkraut, and taking salt pills for workouts), and it's helped a ton with my hydration levels and I cramp less while working out. For me, upping my salt intake has made me healthier. Do you have any thoughts on this?

But otherwise do mot waste time with dictors worried about 0.2 grams of salt when you're eating 4g. Chances are, you really need to reduce the salt processed foods. Id you somehow hate it, and don't just do so through the power of suggestion aka the placebo effect, then there's sea salt and kosher salt for you if you find iodine in whole foods.
