What I love most about this series is how he tells it like a story of this fledgling human empire stepping into the great unknown, while simultaneously teaching the basics of how the game works. Love the content!
Damn, this dude is a natural teacher, that's for sure. I have many hundreds of hours playing this game, but somehow I still want to watch this series of tutorials. Amazing work dude, just amazing. 👏🏻
As a 2000 hours plus player of this game I just want to commend you for this series. You're thorough, methodical, and entertaining so keep of the good work!
I had given up on Stellaris until I found this incredible series. Thank you so much. I hope you got paid for these excellently presented, explained tutorials; you deserve it. You have a skill in teaching. I’m now really enjoying playing; thanks again.
Max, you've got a talent of explaining things in an easy and entertaining manner. Really enjoy the series and hope the see more episodes in the near future!
Hey max just wanted to say that this begginer series is one of the best beginner series of any game I have ever seen. The way you explain things and the order you do it in feels super natural and makes following along really easy to do. I am just now starting to play this game for my first real time. I bet by the end of this series I will at least know how the game works and generally what I should be trying to accomplish throughout the game. Keep up the good work mate. So glad I found this series. Gave me the confidence to figure out what the hell everything is lol.
Max, well done bro! As a huge fan of the deep dive strategy game genre, I’ve just recently found Stellaris. I’ve gotta say, this is quickly becoming one of my favorite games of all time! However, as you stated in the 1st video of your beginner’s guide, it is massive! So, I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to put this series together. Know that folks like myself truly appreciate all your effort in doing so. Keep up the solid and amazing work!
These videos are so good the half hour just flew by. Normally I really get bored by tutorials and I am thinking "Stop talking I just want to play the game" but this series is realy well made and as a new player I am learning a lot. Also it is really refreshing that it isn't just "Uh you have to click that then that..." but you are also explaining why you doing stuff and most important you are also explaining the other options. Very good series I am very impressed.
26:41 Max at the Doctor: "Something is strange down there and we dont quite know what..." XD Also, great tutorial series! Currently started to play Stellaris again after years and everything changed and was only a beginner with 1.0 as well. So you help me out greatly!
I come back to this comment often, and it makes me laugh every time! xD Thanks so much for your support and the compliments! Glad the series is helping!
Thank you again so much for this, you make everything so clear and easy to understand. Like I've seen people that have played a lot of this game whip past everything you've covered in the first two episodes in like four minutes and it's wild. It makes it a lot harder to pick up what decisions I should be making, and how to decide to make them. My request would be (not that you haven't been already) to make sure to explain why you make the decisions you do (like you did with the choke point systems) so that new players like me can understand why we're doing what we're doing and not just that we need to do it. You really have a gift for this tutorial thing :D
Aww! Thanks so much. I'll definitely keep explaining the "why", I find that to be the most important element to explain when teaching someone something new! :D
Awesome, can't wait for the next video. I wish the game gave edict pop ups, that is one I tend to forget. There's so many nuances to this game and really appreciate you going through them in detail. Seriously if Paradox isn't paying you to do these videos they should!
@@MaxTheCatfish Haven't looked for a mod ,good idea. Forgot to mention that was too funny on slowing down the game to enjoy the battles. Never done that, never even thought of that so never paid much attention to them in that regards. So thanks I'll enjoy my first battle on slow motion. lol
I love the way you explain some stuff in a story/in universe type of way. It honestly makes it easier for me to understand how stuff works. Like the colonization. It felt very star trek in the way you said it needs to be surveyed first.
You are totally awesome!!!!! I jumped right into the game when i first had gotten it and was totally overwhelmed. Fortunately coming across your guides instantly was a game changer. I'm somewhat off an impatient guy, however taking the time to watch each one has instantly made me better. "Thank u"
I just got this game and I was completely overwhelmed from the start. These guides have saved me so much time from trying to figure everything out through trial and error
Loving the narrative approach Max. Can't wait to be better at this game. I played and walked away from it cuz the late game became too tedius, about 2 years ago. Now I hope to learn and play it right, thanks to your tutorials!
Hand's down the best tutorial on Stellaris. You're such a great teacher and the story-telling elements really helps to embed the idea and mechanics around it!
Crusader Kings player here trying out my 2nd Paradox game. Looks awesome so far but man it's crazy how complex Paradox makes their games. But then once you get to know it really well it becomes simple. But that initial learning curve can be tough for people. That's why this is a great series! Excited to start playing Stellaris
Sunked 180+ hours in the game since the last video and watch a couple of your streams to try understand more. bought the game with most dlc (only missing Overlord, Nemesis and Apocalypse) and won my first Ironman game as my Authoritarian Fanatic Materialist Sirens. This game got me addicted and your videos are really helping, really clear and easy to understand even for idiots like me. for future videos a more in depth explanation of how to utilize Influence properly so I'm not starving for it 3/4th of the game, during my playthrough I always felt like I was slowed down and having to wait forever for that thing to stack. Also Ship design cause that shit is really obscur to understand but I guess this will come later.
Yeah! Influence is such a limiter throughout the game. I'll try to touch on that more in future episodes and you better BELIEVE that Ship Design will be part of a future tutorial! Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
If you're in a rush for ship design info the channel Montu Plays has an in depth video on each ship class and weapon and subsystem. All thoroughly tested and explained. I only mention in case you're in a rush for the info. That said I look forward to Max's next vid because this series is IMO the best beginner's guide currently available from veteran content creators in the "Stellari-sphere".
I've owned Stellaris for a couple years now but haven't touched it yet and instead been playing GalCiv3. Loving your series so far. Definitely making it easier to jump in soon and loving how much fun and excitement you seem to have just explaining things in this game. Makes it very enjoyable and excited to jump into the game soon.
yo thanks for making this tutorial Max. You really helped me get my friend group to play the games now. I could barely teach them anything since I am not the most apt at that
Such a great series, really this method of explaining while storytelling should be followed for every game of this genre. I know the time and effort these sort of things entails, so kudos to you my friend.
Thank you for what you are doing.I really apreciate it.I always wanted to play Stellaris since I am a huge fan of sci fi and space opera, but the task learning the game myself was incredibly difficult. I watched other youtube guides before but everyone was explaining key concepts at bullet speed and tried to compact everything in a 20 to 30 minute video. You take your time and explain things while you actually play the game. I now have a better understanding of the game and I actually enjoy it rather than try to figure out what things do as I play . Thank you very much.
Second video in and a big thank you I do play this more on xbox than pc as not long had the pc but these vids are a great help for me on both platforms to big thank you. Looking forward to the rest of this little series
Hey man. Just wanted to say thank you for the guide. It's very in depth and you take your time explaining things and you do it in a way that allows me to really understand what you're talking about. Great content.
just started playing today and saw other vid that werrent helpful, and i gave up for the day. but seeing this series and seeing how simple you make the game to be going to restart tomorrow. I spent my first playthrough just researching and being reactive cause i didnt know i had space ships available to use lol
I am a new player. Just started yesterday. I saw one other guide that was waaaayy too fast and flashy. It felt overwhelming. THIS guide however, is entertaining, well-paced and is even narrated with a real story-like excursion way of explaining. Marvelous. Makes me so excited to continue playing
It may be late to comment but someone could find this useful. Usually, when I start new game, I would build 3-4 scientist ships and send them to fully scan every other system first, then pick best choke point usually 5-10 systems away and send construction ship build stations with skipping one system(not surveyed) until I hit desired choke point I want to keep as my border. After that slowly work way back. If, for some reason another empire got on my way just pick choke point before them. Strategy at the end would be to have at most 3 choke points so I can get there fast and not too much sides for others to attack me in war time. And as soon as I get Gates I would build them one system before choke point so if I lose choke point I can get there quick with support. Ps. Great series, perfectly done!
Just decided to get into a 4X and love the sci-fi theme of Stellaris! But I’m totally new to the genre and the tutorial is kind of trash. Thank goodness the YT algo finally go something right by suggesting your channel and intro vids! Great content, keep it up!
These videos are fantastic. Super selfish on my part but I wish you had more out and could get them out quicker! Keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks a lot! I am currently in my first game and just a little overwhelmed. "I am in the middle of a war, I can't be bothered with all those research and build and edict decisions and click whatever" I hope that gets better with more basic understanding.
Make sure to pause! Spacebar is your friend in Stellaris. Those research popups are important - you don't want to lose out on research time because you're distracted. You can pause the game whenever you'd like, take care of the pop-ups, then unpause and continue the war. At war, I tend to turn the Game Speed down to Normal or Slow as well, especially if you're being attacked on multiple fronts.

I'm new to the game, started playing 2 days ago. I spit out my cereal and said: "You can do that!?" When he told his science ship to survey multiple systems. I thought you had to tell it to do each one and only after it had finished with the one it is on.
Another great video. One thing I expect I’m missing the obvious on though and forgive me if I’m jumping the gun on a later tutorial. If I have to resist my natural greed impulse, because a Starbase uses up a limited resource. Then how do I suck up all the lovely shiny things in a system with no Starbase? Bought the game last night and I’m literally following along with your tutorial. The stars around my earth are in different positions than yours. Interesting. 🎃🎃
After I colonized my 3rd planet everything went as normal except the colony ship is still in space and movable. Is this a bug? Seems like I can't use it again though just move it around.
