you're paying for the artistry and quality. a lot of people's livelihood depend on those who can appreciate nicer things and are able to afford giving their family museum quality heirlooms. something like this isn't banged out in a week.
It's simply an agreement and exchange. The artisans want to be a part of making incredible masterpieces using their skills and passions. Those who purchase it want to be able to live with and look at such beauty. And the company fosters the exchange. The most elaborate and expensive Lladro creation is $279K and weighs 412 lbs. It took 35 people 22,000 hours to make. If you break that down, it's just $12-13/hr paid. Of course the artists are paid more than that by the company but the goal is the accomplishment and collaboration. It being so fragile makes it even more precious. Not everything is about profit and gain/loss. It's bigger than that.
Sometimes its not about the money....its about the vision and the work that goes into it. Money isn't everything in life. If done right, that 45K could mean paychecks for the people who created it.
@maggiesteen2049 0 seconds ago I’m a conservator for an auction house and museum and had the opportunity of working on this piece. The artistry, imagination and skill behind these works of art are breathtaking and take endless hours from concept to final story come alive.Funny how a banana stuck to a wall at art Basel in Miami that sold for thousands only received a chuckle and minimal criticism, but something like this that takes true artistry is so misunderstood. Beauty is in the eye of the beholders and for those that can afford valuable works of art only contribute to the legacy, mastery and the support necessary so that we all can enjoy them for years to come.

So art is a waste of money? I'm sure there are things you value that others do not. So why judge?
