Look out for the 1983 2 new pence coin not the 1983 2 pence coin. These coins were minted by accident and do sell for £750-£1000 on ebay. This coin is also nicknamed the 1983 2p mule coin.
Unfortunately the 1971 2p new pence coin is onto worth its face value.

Whilst I'd agree as legal tender 1971-1981 2 pence coins bearing the words "NEW PENCE" are only worth face value.....
FUN FACT: 1p & 2p coins minted between 1971-1991 are 97% copper, the remaining 3% being tin & zinc. From 1992 onwards these coins became copper plated steel due to the increasing price of copper. At today's copper prices a 1971-1991 1p / 2p coin is technically worth 2.08 times it's face value as scrap.
