Here in Sweden they say don’t congratulate yourself too much on a good shot.
It just makes you one shot closer to a bad one.

    Outstanding footage
I appreciate your honesty regarding the gut shot, even if it was not you who fired the shot.
It happens now and then unfortunantely. It's just a matter of amount fired shots.
No one is perfect even if we strive.

That gut shot animal may well have been due to a poacher. They will have little interest for the wellbeing for the animal and are only interested in what they can steal to sell, and not getting caught.
Poachers in the UK are almost certainly going to be using illegally held guns, which is an instant five year jail term if caught. So they are not going to go following up an injured animal and risk getting caught.

Nice video Peter, good to see no fancy shooting and at normal distances of sub 100m too! Would have thought you would capitalise on the Fallow with two rifles? Happy to help?.......

The bullet could have been in the right place since this was assumed to be the exit wound. The bullet may have deflected within the carcase or the animal been at more of an Angle/ moved as the shot was taken. We will never know.

Best not lean your rifle against a tree. If it slips, and that scope strikes a rock, you'll be very sorry. :-) Lie it down on the ground, as you did when your were kneeling.

60 yards and wouldn't recommend taking a shot offhand on a standing target? I'm not a particularly skilled shot but that's not a very hard one to make, even with iron sights.

Rusty Shackleford Unless this guy is a terrible shot without a perfect rest, his suggestion is ridiculous. So is his shot placement. Just bad advice all around.

Brit hunting has always seemed a bit funky because its so procedural/cookie cutter. I assume they do it that way because people will criticize them for every little pissant thing including how they shoulder/carry the rifle...
As for the shot placement, I always take a neck shot when possible. seems to be much more effective.

There are a few different types of people who shoot deer, you have the higher class types of people who are very proper sub 100yard chest shot go back to the restaurant in the range guys. and then the other end where you are out culling 20+ deer every night for days on end with night vision head/neck shots. each to their own
