You can protect it with tape, i did it and my nails stayed for a whole day, i took it off the next day since i had to shower, Steps 1- do what she showed you 2- after you did all that add nail polish. 3- add clear tape on it
They work and they’re absolutely perfect even now I have them on The only problem is that they take so long to make them and you’re not quite waterproof but otherwise they’re amazing and they’re just like fake nails that you have to buy but with this method you can make them at home for less than five dollars love it 😍

I think you can just cut the paper to the shape you want them to be before you glue them on
You can cut it after it hardens and file it too
