    I grew up in the 1950's & remember the Kaiser-Fraser & numerous other makes, that no longer exist! Then,
    consumers had a wide variety of car models to choose from, e.g. Packards; Nash's; Willey's; Hudson's;DeSoto's;
    Studebakers & others that I can't remember!/ Americans need to have more choices in car selections, to increase
    competition! Unfortunately, most of the Kaiser-Fraser models designs were not well received & the company failed!

      Right! Back then you could choose not only from more brands, also from a much wider variety of cars. Today so many cars share the same Plattform and even if you choose a Cadillac, you drive a Chevy.

    independent brands failed mainly because they lacked the funding needed to compete with Ford, GM and Chrysler.
