Recently found your videos. Thank you! You are awesome!
Glad you like them!
Really sad I didn't see this video before they asked me this question on Tuesday 😢. But then again the Sr. VP made fun of my name in front of an HR Manager and didn't even have my resume printed in front of him and used my interview to print my resume and talk about his wife which had nothing to do with me or the job!!
Binge watching these for my first finance job. Thanks for the encouragement Bill
Hello Bill! Years ago I had a job interview that went wrong because of a question that nowadays I still don't know how to answer: why should we hire you, instead of hiring your manager?
Sadly I can't think of any strengths vs a manager that usually has more experience and knowledge. Hope you can help me with this doubt!
I think it's just a trick question to see if you are aware about what they are asking. Why on Earth would they "hire" your manager instead of you ? It's not a real scenario, it does not exist, both the employee and the manager roles positions are always there and there isn't any competition between them. I believe answering like this and making them see that you acknowledge the trick/unreal scenario is what should be done first, and second say why your potential manager might want to work with you and not somebody else. Hope that helps.
Doing the technical work and managing the people doing the technical work use different skill sets. A manager is more focused on oversight, resource coordination, etc. while you are doing the production. As someone who is currently in the production role you are in a good position to keep using the same skills that you are right now, you can state the skills you're using in the role. The fact that you are currently practicing those skills gives you the edge.
Is that the Panama Flag in your pin?
