Hi guys, I am a physiotherapist in Canada. Thanks for doing this review, I think it is very practical and useful. I work with geriatric patients, and appreciate the information you provided regarding the measurement, the handles, the cost, the weight restrictions, and potential tripping hazards. We have many patients who are unsure WHEN it is time to accept the need for a cane, and as you well pointed out, it becomes an issue of pride unfortunately vs fall prevention. I thought it was very useful to see how the canes do or do not stand upright on various surfaces as this is one of the main selling features in the ads on tv. A video on when to switch from a cane to a walker would be great for the general audience too. Thanks for these instructional videos. Cheers!

While I find my Hurrycane useful for it's compactness, my standard cane with the Hugo Quad Pod base is more sturdy, and stable. It can also be adapted to accept an ice-gripper attachment to the cane. You attach it to the cane but drop it between two pods on a side - left or right. When not in use, the ice grip folds up.

I recently went to the center of my small town with HurryCane and while I was simply walking on sidewalk it pulled away from me and caused me to fall. I am grateful there were several people there to help me back up. I am pretty bruised and I am so happy that Bob had the courage to mention that problem so it will not happen to others.

Thank you for your video review of the "HurryCane" and Hugo Cane! Kudos on the comparison ! You two are wonderfully helpful to folks like me........ we who are " over the hill and rolling happily down the other side " .
I purchased TWO Hurry Canes, one accidentally , having failed to understand the difference between a Hugo QuadPod and a Hugo Quad Cane ( there are in fact 2 of the latter, a Small Quad and a Large Quad ). To be truthful I ordered the shimmery Aquamarine QuadPod because the beautiful rose Small Quad was out of stock. Quelle horreur !
The aquamarine Hugo QuadPod was tippy and unstable relative to the not-very-golden cocoa Hugo Small Quad. Aggghhhhh
I am now the owner of a boring brownish but very safe and stable Hugo Small Quad cane. Hope springing eternal, the beautiful rose Small Quad is currently on order.
Time for You lot to compare the three Hugo Quad canes for us...what about that Large Quad ?!.......and please some marvelous colours !! Please.
    Yours very truly,
    Penelope Shaw

Hello. I am a PT who has developed MS and ambulated with external assist. Meaning for distance I use a cane. Of course I am trying different devices. I used the Hurrycane for the first time today and many complaints I could agree with. It has rubberized comfortable handle that caught the wall better than my fold up canes with the wooden handle. What you great guys with normal gait can’t translate is the features of the Hurrycane. When I was walking at the end of the day I had not walked that fast in months. Through the day when I chose to use it I felt my involved foot clearing the floor better than with my standard cane. I think the slight movement allowed my weight to shift over to my uninvolved side with consistent ability. Personally being middle age I like the fact the cane is straight than the offset look. I hope you professionals also walk with these devices to see if you observe the dynamics. 🖖🏽

Yeah! I am so glad you did this review! I am surprised the Hurrycane collapses like it does when you step on it. I am also surprised by the height difference and the cost. Wow! I have never actually bought the entire Hugo cane. One thing the Hugo has is the Quadpod base you can purchase separately and put it on almost any newer metal cane. I have only bought the bases. The base comes with the Allen wrench. And you can turn the base whichever way you want. You can put this base onto a foldable cane. Another thing..I like the grip on the Hugo base on wet surfaces and on uneven ground. I have thought about getting the Hurrycane just to have another option in my collection, but I think I will save my money. Thanks for doing this. I didn't know Hugo contributed to MS either. Nice job!

I like that the hurrycane swivels. But does any hurricane not fold? I also see where a lot of people had the hugo break at the cups on the bottom because of bending it too far forward. Are there any hurrycanes that don't fold? I suppose the parts could be glued together.

  • @sheronevans835

the pod on the bottom of my hugo cane broke apart and all rubber covering is worn away so now it slips on the floor with me. Thought I could just replace the pod but can't get the old one off. So guess I will have to buy a complete new cane. My previous hugo actually broke in half at the top where it curves after using it for awhile (don't remember how long)

Betty.I I have used my hurry cane for years. The reason I came here was because it continuously falls over and the base is loose. I wanted to see if there was a way to tighten the base. According to this review I should contact the manufacturer and discontinue use? Now I am worried as I just had hip surgery and don't wish to fall. I just might look into the Hugo cane.

I want to by my father a new can. He needs a hip replacement but his doctors want him to loose some weight first. He is 5'6" and 325lbs. The Hugo Cane seems like it would be a better, more solid choice for him. We'll will definitely reposition the bottom of the cane since he has wide feet.

Great informative video. You almost had me sold on a Hugo cane, until I realized the four pod base would not fit into the cane holder I have on my walker! The tip of my current cane sits in a circular holder and then the shaft clips on higher up. Disappointing. 🙁Maybe a cane manufacturer will come up with a holder that will accommodate the Hugo. In the meantime, I guess I'll continue to use my standard cane.

Since my husband had a stroke 10 yrs. ago we have been through several canes. The HurryCane only stands up on a hard floor. If you accidentally step on the base as you walk the cane will pull apart. I superglued it together, problem solved. It's a cheaply made cane and not very sturdy. His first one had a light, nice feature til it quit working. H e didn't like the Quad bottom piece on his next cane. The next HurryCane purchased the bottom piece was not as mobile which was better but, we still superglued the pieces together, it's a risk for pulling apart and collapsing. Now he wants a posture cane.....he changes canes like some people change spouses!

Nobody has talked about the rubber pads on the hurricane. You must check them often. The screws back out and the pads come off. You can fall when this happens. I have two hurrycanes. This has happened to both of them. The whole foot and stem came off one and can’t be put together again. I’m glad it happened in the house or I would have fallen. I still like this cane very much because it has a give and makes it easy to walk.

I have a different foldable cane that just isn't worth it for the convenience factor, doesn't feel sturdy enough, even though it doesn't have a base like the Hurrycane to accidentally step on and pull it apart while using (that was truly scary to see). My wife bought one of the hurricanes. And what a piece of junk it is. The feet come off. after a few days that she used it. The problem is that the bottom is made of cheap plastic. Plastic is not what should have been used when making this cane. Aluminum would have been much better for the base and would have held up much better. Using Plastic for the base the screwes will come loose and the threads will get stripped and become unusable. Some form of lite metal would have been best. But these companies use cheap plastic. To cut costs. Don't buy this cane. It will end up hurting you. I can see the law shuts coming from this cane soon.
