Тут свои Русские не всегда ,и не всё понимают у великого гения Владимира Семёныча ,у него очень много аллегорий и каждое слово с глубоким смыслом,и я не думаю ,что иностранцы поймут его песни хотя бы на 10 процентов даже если знают русский язык, а Высоцкий наше Всё и этим всё сказано!!!

Читал субтитры и думал, что для того, чтобы хорошо перевести песни Высоцкого на английский, переводчик должен быть англичаниным или американцем,, он должен отлично знать русский язык, он должен обязательно несколько лет прожить в России и крайне желательно, чтобы он был поэтом или писателем.

This drama is about prisoner, who finished his term in prison, its about middle of 60th of 20th century, soviet Russia. They free a lot of prisons of GULAG then, lot of "enemies of nation" and criminals got free, went home. PS the text is a russian poetry, full of native ideoma's, signs... Im 48, I can feel it deeply, to tears - I ve cought a bit of these events, people and talks...

Better if you read the text first and then listen without interruption. The translation is very poor but it gives you idea. Just listen and feel the song. It's a great song!
The song is about a man who got to the zone (in prison) by his own stupidity having committed a crime. And finally released, he wants to wash off all the accumulated during the prison years , so the song is about a bath (sauna) . He wants a good wash. This is of course an allegorical meaning,but in prison or in the area of a good bath, of course not. But still, the general meaning of the song and its essence can only be understood by a speaker of Russian. You can translate this into English, but an English speaker will not understand the whole essence and meaning of the song.
I can see that. Also, when I translate many comment into English it does not make sense. I have to figure out what the person was meaning to say.

This is not a story of convict fellow. This is a story about the soviet system under Josef Stalins regime. Millions of innocent people sendt to labour camps. A lot of them froze or starved to dead. The KGB/ FSB was everywhere and picked up suspected people and families. Vysotsky was against this system and was systemically bullied by the KGB. His songs has double meaning so you have to visualise that his texts was always an attack on the terrible soviet system.

Судя по реакциям на "Кони привередливые" англоязычным вообще непривычен, непонятен такой литературный прием, когда вся очень жизненная, сочная картинка (история) является аллегорией совершенно другой жизненной ситуации.
