    Dennis, what district of Seattle do you live in and why do you like it?
    I think you may find it interesting that former Seahawk Dr. Dan Doornink used to be my doctor and I also worked with him in his clinic back in the 1990s. He might be before your time but he's a great person. I saw him recently and he looked great. 😊

    Visited Kowloon and saw Bruce Lee statue by the water. Only there for 8 nights but visited various districts during the day rather than the usual tourist/shopping areas. Mong Kok at night very busy, great atmosphere. Interesting to hear about Bruce Lee in Seattle. He'd have sorted out the "peaceful" petrol b0m6 throwing unwashed protesters.

    In Scotland we have a lot of pressure from property developers to repurpose urban buildings. Many stone built properties hundreds of years old often gutted inside and tastefully renovated or upgraded. These buildings initially built to last hundreds of years. Lots of stone built churches turned into houses or flats. We have preservation orders on many of our great and "interesting" properties. A property doesn't need to be old or high value to have preservation orders, seen ex water pumping stations and other (ugly to some people) public utility properties saved from destruction. I think this is a good thing as it maintains character within an area. Few things worse than old and perfectly serviceable town centre buildings getting torn down and bland utilitarian buildings put up instead. On subject of old buildings, lucky to have come across some amazing castles still inhabited and used as primary residences, how cool is that? Lots of big and small castles in Scotland and Wales. The smaller ones can be very interesting as although providing protection they also had quirky or bespoke features, many little castles built better than their neighbour's castle, medieval "one upmanship".

    • @LaoOcean
      @LaoOcean  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's great that they have a way of preserving old buildings/architecture in Scotland. In Seattle there are areas designated as historical landmarks where this can happen.

    I'm a Seattle resident (Belltown) and love watching your excellent video walks thru all the neighborhoods of the Emerald City. Yes, the old girl has been knocked about by the Democrap Party Stormtroopers of ANTIFA/BLM - but she still looks damn pretty good in the August sun!

      Lots of statues have been taken down worldwide. What happens in America comes to places like the UK sooner than you think. Even in the UK you would have to be very careful saying anything positive about 45 so things must be crazy in the US. Have been following things in America for years and am in awe of 45's achievements given all the interference and blatant partisan lies told about him. 45 brave enough to renegotiate all the bad (for America) trade deals other President's kicked the can down the road. 45 took on China over trade, now that's biting off a lot to chew. Biden wants to appease China.

    Thank you so much for showing Beacon Hill. I had a feeling there'd be at least one mural rn. I really love it there, too. Just a different feel than the rest of the districts.
    I ate at the Mexican food restaurant that said it was changing hands, once. Great, not excellent. The beans were 👍! But El Camion won and kept my heart when I lived in the Emerald City. That, and a taqueria way, way up Aurora, (I wanna say maybe even like 175th-ish) where I was always the only white face in the place (which always means it's fkn dank!).
    I'm a native Northern Californian... I speak Spanish better than most non-native speakers, and that has always seemed to make me welcome in places that may otherwise be a lil taken aback by a white girl walking in alone. Ok, enough talk about race, it's such a hot(ter) button these days, I'm def not trying to offend anyone. Just making observations, from experience. I honestly missed interacting with the heavy Latinx contingent we have here at home when I lived there. They're def around, but it's just so different there. Anyway.
    I love Beacon Hill, wanted to, but somehow never really got around to, diving into the food scene there. Thx for showing it!

      Brave to go into some establishments if they have high numbers of one type of regular customer (and you're not it). Even more daunting if you're a lone diner, male or female. You're right about having language skills that can be an icebreaker or useful in certain situations. Really annoying when staff are rude, had that when turned up on my motorcycle, never gone back. Bad vibes even if nobody says anything. Some people can be d1cks.

      In Scotland we have a lot of pressure from property developers to repurpose urban buildings or build on empty lots. Impressed with what gets built. Rarely do I think an area is worse when small untidy corners are built upon but then again we have strict building planning.

    An outsider's perception of Seattle is obviously influenced by the disorder broadcast nightly to the outside world. The politics in Seattle appear so toxic and repulsive that I'd (sadly) refuse to visit. Also, from a safety aspect, any urban area without a fully funded (and appreciated) law enforcement would be a definite deal breaker. It's a shame as I'd love to visit, really would love to go wander around.

    • @littlefishy6316

      It's not unkind to point out the obvious but outside of protest areas things are peaceful as Dennis's walks show. The protesters are unfortunately giving Seattle as a whole a bad name.
