Sir if I have to find 9's complement of 469 using(r-1) method than first I have to find 8's complement and it would be (888-469)=419 and to find 9's complement I have to add 1 in it so (419+1)=420 but the answer given in book is 530??Can someone please explain which step I'M doing wrong???
9's is for decimal and 8's for octal so if you want to find the 9's complement for 469 using r-1 method you just simply subtract it from 999 so 999-469 = 530.
r-1 compliment is used by computers to reduce calculations. As it totally removes the need of using carry or borrow while subtraction. Subtracting 1 to r^n makes all the digits their highest possible value in its form. Like subtracting 1 to 10^4 makes it 9999 hence no carry or borrowing is required whilr subtracting.
