  • The Behringer FCB1010 MIDI controller is well-suited to control the EDP, but its interface for programming and customizing MIDI patches can be tricky to navigate. This is a deep dive into creating and editing patches on the FCB1010, with an emphasis on sending the types of Note, Expression, and "static" CC commands that access the EDP's functionality. Huge thanks to Mark Oswald for commissioning this one.

Subbed - Have EDP incoming ! Already own the Vortex. Your video's are exceptional Andre. You have a real talent for delivering precise info and demonstrating this stuff, not rushed, humorous at times and very well spoken. Thank you.

Thanks so much for tuning in, and for the comments. And congratulations on the incoming EDP! Keep me posted. :)

@@andrelafosse Having done this with my edp, I have had a problem. If I use a lot (a lot) of very rapid fwd/rev and retrigger midi commands my edp seems to glitch out (the lights for multiply/insert/undo go out, multiply won’t respond, and it seems to cycle through the memory buffer on its own - a few times even bringing up material from a previous, already overwritten loop. Sometimes it comes back on its own - after about one cycle the lights return and it functions normally - other times not).
Is my edp dying or have I just run into a bug? Everything functions normally otherwise (I can even do some rapid fwd/rev and retrigger with no problem). Have you ever come across this?

@@wiredbassclarinet Hi and sorry for the delay in getting back to you! That's a known bug, that I run into sometimes if I send a lot of MIDI functions in rapid succession. (I think it's shown up in at least a couple of tutorial videos - the "loop scratching" one has it, I'm pretty sure.) No sign of ill health on your EDP, though! :)

@@andrelafosse thank you! After experimenting with it more (it being so reproducible (when intentionally trying) and the edp behaving correctly otherwise) I sort of came to that conclusion. I really appreciate your response and quelling my fears! The edp I got had experienced a rack ears bending fall (before I got it) and it’s been perfect. Knowing that this is just a small software bug makes me really think these things were built like absolute tanks!

...even better, use a computer editor! ;) ....you just need a second midi cable [MIDI interface OUT -> FCB1010 MIDI IN + FCB1010 MIDI OUT -> MIDI interface IN]... midi interfaces are usually included with audio interfaces, so...

BTW wonderful video as usual! you're THE man.

Very true! But, a video on programming the pedal without a computer has been a popular request for quite a while. And: I like being able to change pedal assignments quickly, wherever I am, without having to hook it up to a computer. Totally get your point, though!

yeah, of course, being able to edit the FCB without a pc is definitely a plus, it's just that the interface itself is a bit of a nightmare and the use of an editor, at least when programming it from scratch, saves a lot of time and headaches... then again, like you proved, it can be done in the end! when I first bought it, a few weeks ago, inspired by your incredible use of it, I tried reading the manual and I was like: thank god we have midi editors! but I definitely have to learn to program it like you did in case I have to reprogram some functions and I've no access to a pc!

Thanks for the kind words. :) And: I wouldn't be surprised if I myself have to refer to this video, next time I try to program the thing...!
Thanks again very much for tuning in. :)
