  • I love visiting Captiva & look forward to my annual stay each summer. I was so curious to find out what staying there this year would be like since the area was hit by Hurricane Ian and did so much damage just south in another of my favorite places, Sanibel.
I took lots of videos and photos while visiting this summer and put together some of the clips that I though others might find helpful and or interesting.
If you have stayed on Captiva then you will recognize many of the places. South Sea Plantation was not open while I was there, but I do think they are starting to book again based on an email I recently received.
Tween Waters has been open for awhile and there are other videos that show it's progress so I didn't get into anything about this resort.
The island was not crowded at all. Very different than past years.
If you are looking for a vacation home in the area and would like a referral for a good broker in the area let me know.

I performed there with Steve Guidus and the Zebop band; back in the eighties.

Love your video. How did those two golf course fair after the hurricane? I would have though Perrywinkle Way stores where really hit hard and surely the shell muesum must have removed all those beautiful shells be the hurricane hit. Stay Well

Sanibel was still very much recovering when I was there last summer so I am not sure about the golf courses but there wasn't anyone around to play on them even if they were in good shape. I'm headed back in less than 100 days and I look forward to sharing more video! Thank you for watching & commenting!

HELLO - My family owned Twin Palm Cottages when I was a kid. That was back in the 70's. We lived there and ran the place. So glad to see it survived. Captiva looks SO much different now than when I was a boy. Glad to see Twin Palms survived another storm.

WOW! That must have been soooo cool to live there! Do you have any photos of Captiva from that time? Would love to see them!
I lived in Sarasota in the 70's when I was about 5 and then again in the 80's when I went to middle and high school -- the changes there are ridiculous. At least Captiva doesn't have high rise condos thank goodness!

Long time visitor to Jensen's. Thank you for the update. Had to stay at Siesta Key this year but still went to Cayo Costa and Cabbage Key. Rented from Gasparilla Marina.

Siesta Key isn't such a bad place to be -- just a lot more traffic! The sand and water is really pretty there -- I grew up in Sarasota. I have no doubt that Jensens will come back better than ever and still retain it's charm☀

spent many days on Sanibel & Captiva - shelling at it's best back in the 80's. Some times we visited twice in one year. South Seas Plantation a few times as well as the Sundial. Loved Pinnocios Ice Cream. Didn't see any videos showing the Timbers, Harbour Inn, Mad Hatters. P,S, Mucky Duck is one of the best restaurant with great sunsets. Beware very small parking lots.

Just an FYI. Jerry’s of Sanibel was another super market on the island. I believe they are open. Thanks for your video. We plan to go to Tweenwaters Inn at the end of August.

Yes, Jerry's is open & I totally forgot to mention it when I was sitting on the beach recording! Enjoy your stay at Tweenwaters in August!

They're also in the middle of a legal tussle trying to get approval to rebuild the old and damaged resort properties one story higher than before. The community is staunchly against it.
