How we install our roof-underlayment.

  • Just a quick video showing a part of the roof-underlayment installation process. It's very important to have this thin plywood skin covering the outside of your teardrop before you install your aluminum (or fiberglass, etc), because it adds enormous amounts of rigidity and strength to the body of your teardrop. It also does a nice job providing backing support for your aluminum if that's your exterior skin choice.

    Is that the stuff that's marketed at "bendable plywood", or something else? Cheers! Chris.

      Chris, no this is not bendy ply. In my honest opinion that stuff is garbage, you can put your finger right through it if you want and is anything but waterproof. The stuff we use is 3mm Baltic Birch. Much less bendable, but still quite bendable if you know how to tease it into shape...

    A little late in the video but as i am pondering building one i have a question ...........It seems your cabins are being built off the trailer ? If so then hoa do you attach them to the trailer frame ?

    where is a good place to get the aluminum sheeting??? awesone build!!!

      Thanks! Look up a local metal fabricator and ask where they recommend getting mill-spec aluminum sheet (we use .040). They should be able to either get it for you or tell you where to go. We get ours locally, so not much help to you unless you live in Oregon!

    Do you guys build your own trailer that this sits on? If yes, do you sell just the trailer? Arizona requires that any type of trailer must be licensed, do you guys put a serial number on these and get official titles for them so they can be licensed?

      We have a fabrication shop down the street build the main part of our chassis for us, and we install all the suspensions, jacks, etc... Unfortunately they are not for sale separately, as they are very specialized to our body design and probably won't work for most people's builds. Good luck!

      OregonTrailR on that front piece that comes out over the chassis tongue, can you make that part bigger?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@djpoolservice I assume you are talking about our "tongue box" option. Long story made short, we cannot change the size of that box. Or I guess rather, we won't. Every part of our campers have been painstakingly designed to function and look as good as possible. The geometry of where that box lays has many factors built in, considering things like vehicle turning radius, the ability to avoid jack-knifing while backing up, getting maximum efficiency from the materials we use without having to stitch on extra pieces (which create weak spots in the body). Not to mention, changing that one part would require the re-drawing of dozens of CAD files, reworking all tool paths, making new templates for trim bending, etc etc etc. Anyway, I'm sure you get the point. That said, if you want more space on the tongue for storage, you can forgo our "built in" tongue box, and we can install a large aluminum tongue box with several times the capacity, but it will only be accessible from the outside...

      OregonTrailR I do appreciate you responding to all of my questions! I do understand that it would be difficult to change. We are not looking for extra storage though. The reason I asked is because we have two Labrador’s Retrievers who travel everywhere with us and also sleep with us when we travel, so I was actually trying to figure more interior space. Thank you again for being so responsive.

      @@djpoolservice Gotcha. It's very important to keep the pooches happy! My dachshund happily snuggles down by our feet, but you won't have that luxury with your labs unfortunately. My brother puts his black lab in the back of his SUV, and he seems plenty happy, but that situation may not work for every pooch... One possible scenario could be to add an awning with walls to the side of the teardrop. This creates a "side tent" that your door would open into, where you your pups could be, technically outside of the trailer, but not free to roam necessarily... Just a thought!

    What adhesive is that? Loctite Polyseamseal/Big Stretch?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You got it! Big stretch (clear) or polyseamseal (clear) both do an amazing job at keeping a super solid, yet flexible joint, so long as at least one of the materials is porous. I prefer big stretch because it guns a little smoother, but they are both incredibly strong adhesives....

    How do you attach your bodies with bolts or adhesive?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stainless Steel bolts with Lock Nuts. It's a good idea to be able to remove the body from the frame in case one or the other gets damaged enough to require replacement...

    Do you sell as diy kit?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry we don't. We planned to, but we are always overwhelmed with orders for our trailers and can't seem to find the time to work on the kit program... Maybe in the future, but for now it's just not possible :(

    How thick is the skin?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We use 3mm Baltic Birch for the top skin, then aluminum sheeting over that.
