The "blue turtle" line-up had a very unique sound.... world music fused with rock and jazz - I love Sting's solo work but I would have loved to have seen at least one more album with Sting, Marsalis, Kirland, Hakim, and Jones.
This entire video shows sting being the Victor Frankenstein of songwriting. He not only writes the lyrics, but also creates each and every element of the monster then puts it all together piece by piece and brings it to life
Je m'en souviens ! Sting et Phil collins ont la particularité d'avoir leur premier albums solo très très puissants. Malheureusement beaucoup les ont connu après. Face Value et The Dream of the blue Turtles sont les meilleurs de leur carrière Solo. Merci
@rongravy that's what I like about Sting, he sings about things relevant to the world, he and Peter Gabriel came from the same mold, a very good one!!!
Mr. Gabriel & Sting are incomparable. As for moulds, Mr. Gabriel appears to have been dashed to Earth from a comet. Sting came from a production line which stamps out ... Things {:~)
"Sings about things relevant to the world" is such a nice way to say "pandering". Never forget that everything is a product contrived for the purpose of making cash. When you forget that you're being pandered to, that's just proof that the pandering has worked successfully. Your emotions are a product. All of our emotions are products to be exploited for money by people who fancy themselves to be "artists".
Dream of the Blue Turtles...imo a masterpiece. Too bad it was released the same year as Graceland and somewhat overshadowed by that. Also a masterpiece. I wore out two copies of Bring on the Night. Thank you for posting this!!
Dam. Wish you would've continued this for another 15 seconds. So interesting to hear what Wynton Marsalis has to say about the difference between being a musician and a rock star.
Every time I hear him I'm appalled anew that he was ever successful as a singer. Such a weird voice, but good on him for making a living at it. Confidence will get you far.
He had the greatest musicians on this album. Singers from Chic, Branford Marsalis, I think the rhythm section from Chic. There was actually a lot of flack about him having this band when it was assembled for this project. Some people including Wynton Marsalis thought it was exploitive. Sting said he wanted the best musicians and that’s what he got. And it’s true because this is ageless.
It already shows Sting's permanent problem of leaving too little imperfection on his studio records, making the live recordings feel much more alive than the album versions.
Another Last Exit song plundered from the vault with the song having original;y been titled ‘Savage Beast.’ The lyrics to the original version are far better with similarities to ‘Burn for You.’ - probably not surprising as this too was a Last Exit song
The song was written in support of coal miners striking against a conservative anti-labor (Thatcher) government determined to break the strike and also promote nuclear power.
Not exactly the case; Sting took a very different turn to his jazz roots on this first solo attempt and indeed, many fans of the Police hated it from simply different expectations. That said, this is a fantastic album and tour remembering that Sting took a massive risk publicly at the time leaving the Police and going solo with fresh and different music. The breakup of both the Police (which really never was announced to even Stewart nor Andy) and his first marriage happened at the same time as this album and tour. It is still one of his best efforts. RIP Kenny Kirkland, one amazing piano and keyboard player.
Really dislike most of what Sting does to his songs live. That backing just didn't work for me, glitzing up a song about redundant coal miners and dangerous nuclear power.

Stafford I agree. I was never a big Police fan but I enjoyed the sound of Dream Of The Blue Turtles. Very unique.
@@airdriver Same here.
Same here as well
Kenny Kirkland - you brought joy to millions with your music and talent.
43 is sooooo young.
Say that.
This entire video shows sting being the Victor Frankenstein of songwriting. He not only writes the lyrics, but also creates each and every element of the monster then puts it all together piece by piece and brings it to life
This man helped me thru some tough times. Sting is in a world of his own!
Still one of the best live albums of all time
The album was Dream of the Blue Turtles, though this is from the film Bring On The Night. I believe the album was released in 1985.
all I can say is, Sting is a musical genious!!!
The dream of the blue turtles - a masterpiece.
best album he made, incredible band
How beautiful is that branford solo at the end? I wish he and sting would play together again.
the best band he could ever have and ever have.
You mean The Police
Merci
Agreed!!!
I was 20 when this came out, Now I see the message He was sending Me. Finally woke up. Thank you Sting
Sting you are my music God
Still have the VHS. Has been watched to pieces.
This song was the shit. I forgot about this one because sting has so many hits, its hard to remember all of them!!
Building up. Product of the 80's with real music.
This DVD is amazing!

I've always loved this song

I still think it is Gordon's most unpretentious and fine album. The songs were all matserpieces.
Still has a bit pretentious towards the musicians
this is haunting love this.
nice to see the most expensive sampler in action
Great! Thanks for uploading. Sting appears June 8th on Leno, for all hizza fans out there in TH-cam Land and the universe beyond.
...love his music! Great musician...
Yeahh!! nice equipment, I wish I had this at home!!!
Masterpiece best juice of Sting music 🎶.
Wow. I love seeing and hearing this.
Spectacular
Prophetic Sting

Thank you so much for this.
This is a stellar live album too
Great lyrics, I love this song.
@uk6strings
same here! absolutely! that would have been great!! darryl, omar, kenny and brandfort - would have been the most stunning album.....
Great theme !! it´s pretty!
Dream of the Blue Turtles...imo a masterpiece. Too bad it was released the same year as Graceland and somewhat overshadowed by that. Also a masterpiece. I wore out two copies of Bring on the Night. Thank you for posting this!!

This is a clip from the movie - Bring on the Night - from 1985 and available on DVD. Also CD has some of the music.
Thankyou for this footage, great song.
That computer 🖥 was the latest technology. Ancient.
Reminds me of the miners' strike in the UK between 1984-1985.
Genius at work... silence please...

kenny.... i miss you
This is an amazing song. Check out the orchestral version on Sting's latest album 'Symphonicities'. In my opinion it's even more moving
Sadly no credit given to Last Exit who originally recorded the song in the mid 70s .
Este tema me encanta. Me hace acordar a mi adolescencia. Aquí se llamaba "Vamos juntos a la destrucción"
Ah, man. You cut it off too soon! I love what Branford Marsalis says about rock stars right after this song.
So very relevant - esp now.
やっぱりスティングは凄い才能の持ち主だ!まるでプログレっぽいね。
build machines that they cant control!!!!!!!! (fukushima)
The internet. 😏
Now A.I....What's next?
Your North Country roots point you in the right direction
We still do it . It is so sad.
It already shows Sting's permanent problem of leaving too little imperfection on his studio records, making the live recordings feel much more alive than the album versions.
Hey, it sounds too good for anyone to complain. There's always an option to hear both versions.
Dream of the Blue Turtles
1986
This is geniality of sounds
Thanks alot John .. :)))
I watched Chernobyl recently. I realized that Sting could see the future.
Another Last Exit song plundered from the vault with the song having original;y been titled ‘Savage Beast.’ The lyrics to the original version are far better with similarities to ‘Burn for You.’ - probably not surprising as this too was a Last Exit song
Bring On The Night...Baby.
Would somebody please upload the Flintstones part?
A-fucking-MEN !!!!!
Synclavier VPK.
go on masalis
스팅 (Sting) - “We Work The Black Seam Together” (1985)
I am a savage beasttttt
The song was written in support of coal miners striking against a conservative anti-labor (Thatcher) government determined to break the strike and also promote nuclear power.
Can someone tell me please from which album was this song & in which year??
who are the musicians! I know, but who else?
Yeah obviously. But it's really about nuclear power plants; "bury the waste in a great big hole", "carbon fourteen" (=radioactive isotope), ...
Where's this vid from? Official release?
i think that might be a Macintosh @ the beginning
Well, the half life of carbon 14 is 5,700 years but I still like the song...
Hello East Palestine Ohio ~ Tell the Truth ~ Your lungs are your LIFE 🫁 They cannot LIE ~ DC EPA ~
All the internautes let's discover our version on the profile nanoulight
曲をレゲエの要素が多いから、よりジャズになりやすい気がする。
One of the most poignant pieces of music from the 1980s
look at that computer and printer lol lol
one day in a nuclear age they may understand our age...perhaps it's really true...truth is sometimes between the lines, try to read it
had.
sorry about my awful english
The video is nice but the quality is awful !!
...Check out " Family Guy Sting"....it's funny co's is true.!
Down votes comically illuminate Sting's lyrics...

"they're crap"? Nice. Please kids...stay in school.
The Battlefield Band does a much better version, but Sting gets an "A" in songwriting.
I like STING, but I don't buy this whole skit!.
Sting butchering his own song..
Really dislike most of what Sting does to his songs live. That backing just didn't work for me, glitzing up a song about redundant coal miners and dangerous nuclear power.
Agree-best version of this is by the Battlefield Band, also on TH-cam with some great pics to accentuate the history significance.
