Agar tu ittefaqan mil b jaye.. teri furqat k sadmay kam na hongy.. This line gives a glimpse of the immense pain that the writer would have gone thru that made him write this beautiful ghazal.
Found my way here from a review of the song on Pitchfork. Stunningly beautiful. Yearning. Love. Loss. Grief. Forgiveness. Transcendence. Rebirth. Hope. I felt it all during this seven minutes. Thank you, Arooj.
this song makes you feel the kind of sadness that gives you comfort. it reminds you of everything, every heartbreak, every time you were betrayed by someone, every time you felt worthless. it reminds you that you tried, no matter what the obstacles and hardships, you tried just to be not good enough. this song helps you make peace with reality. this song is a warm hug from someone who has been through the same and feels for you.

I remember listening to this song while lying down on the floor of my room, looking at the roof....and feeling in a manner I have not felt in the longest of times. It's somehow nostalgic, romantic with a vibe of the dawn and deep midnights....watching the sunsets and listening to noises from a distance- all together at the same time! This is surreal and Arooj rightly deserves the highest of the honours for this piece of art. As for the South Asian representation, a purely Urdu song winning a Grammy is a win in itself ❤️
@Shraddha Srivastava I love your comment. I was going through the comment section to see if anyone feels similar to what I feel when I listen to this song. Whenever I play Mohabbat, I feel the presence of an emotion in my throat and I'm unable to gulp it down. It reminds me of the emotions that I have been so cautiously trying to bury from my past. This song is so soothingly powerful that it can evoke all our deepest hidden feelings in a bittersweet way. :)
Today.. Actually, Mehdi Hasan (late) is nominated in Grammy. Thanks to you Arooj Aftab! You made everything proud. You justified the feelings of actual track. I don't think so this can repeat. Mehdi Hassan sang this song / ghazal like 40 years ago. This ghazal belonged to Mehdi Hassan because the way he sang it. This girl can not come even close to him. This girl have no singing talent which is very obvious from her singing. She might be a good DJ or I do not know someone who can manipulate the music. Encouraging this bad music and so called artist will discourage good emerging artists.

I’m bubble wrapping my stuff right now since I’m moving away from Brampton, Canada. I’ve recently been cheated upon and left heart broken to the point where it reached to self-harm but here I am today, moving away for good, leaving behind his memories, my feelings and emotions and any last bit of love left in me here. I’m not taking any hatred with me either, I’ve finally decided to be at peace with myself and that will only happen when I let go off any feelings that I have left of him. I haven’t felt this positive in a real long time, sending love to everyone reading this. Oh! Btw it’s 2:37 am here in Canada rn. Loads of love! And positivity! 🤍
Forgetting him is not gonna be easy. It's like a bell curve. Reaching the top of the curve is not easy. But once you get there, things might be easy. Thanks for sharing, and sharing positivity. Bless you.

Oh my goodness! I just heard this on TIDAL and I sat up with amazement. This recording is incredible. The sound engineer has done a stellar job in showcasing your voice with such beauty. This is art. This is a song of the soul. Thank you for gifting us.
Someone sent me this as a farewell recommendation. Little did she know, there won't be anyone who will love me like her and there might not be anyone who would love her like me. However like the lyrics suggested the pain of her separating from me would never be forgotten. I wish all of the people gets to love and stays with their beloved. Cruel world we're living in. Lonely, tormented and abdicated soul we become!
Bhaijaan.. what you wrote is cent percent true. Had a friend for 17 years. M 26 now. Proposed her last year by writing two pages. She read it in front of me and denied. It pains me that i couldn't be a part of life. Couldn't stay there as her friend. I didn't want to leave. She didn't want me to leave but i had to cz if i had stayed then i would have maybe died? I have my parents (no siblings) and i can't fail them after failing myself. I am a chartered accountant now. I am doing good financially but the void stays. Not able to talk to people. Ability to make friends has been zero. I smile all the time. Watch Kapil Sharma's show with my parents and laugh my heart out so that it seems normal to them. And i no more want to be in love. If 17 yrs of my life.. from standard 4th till now couldn't get me my desire of living life with my human, nothing can. Love is beautiful but if not received back then is the most painful emotion too. I wish she stays happy and healthy but i also wish that i never see or meet her cz i don't want my sub-consciousness to curse her ever in any situation. I won't want to compare her happy days amwith my not happy days. I wish that karm doesn't gets to her. I just want that my parents never get to know Bout cz it will make them sad somewhere. Simple people they are. I am not. I just have a wish for me - whenever i leave this world, i don't w ast to come back ever again in any form. That's it.
I stumbled across this reading an article about the Grammys... I'd not heard her music before... Man! Just makes sit up and pay attention. I can't understand the lyrics, and Google can't translate... but she just reaches right down and touches something deep within. I'm not a poet, I don't have the words... but I know greatness when I experience it. I hope to experience her live one day. Thank you Arooj Aftab.
@@catherinecostantino6183 good translation, if you like Urdu poetry, try to get hold of Victor Kiernan's book on Faiz. Also please visit "A Desertful of Roses"
The main lyrics are "Agar tu ittefaqan mil bhi jaye, teri furqat ke sadme kam na honge", which translates to "even if i meet you again coincidentally, the pain of your separation won't lessen."
This is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have ever heard. I cried, I smiled and cried a bit more. I really needed this. Thank you, Arooj.
Translation: Number of those who love you - die for you, won’t be less. But in gathering of your confidants, I won’t be present. Whole world’s torment, and then there - a trouble of yours. Should this pain be, what other sufferings be in absence? Even if by some miracle or a coincidence - we do unite. The awe and amazement of distance won’t ever be less. Complications for hearts - restlessness will keep arising. If few suggestions and advice won’t partake in romance. Oh Guardian (“Hafiz”), no matter how much I’m self-conscious here. There, for my advances, won’t be even a hint of complain for annoyance.

I never had one ounce of doubt that this song deserved Grammy. It has everything that a beautiful song should have. Lyrics, vocals, music and pain? Too much pain! Aren't the lyrics what a broken heart can relate to? Only a shallow, surface level person would call it unworthy of recognition. Arooj, you do you! One of the reason I love this world, is because Arooj Aftab is a part of it.💌
I remember listening to this song while lying down on the floor of my room, looking at the roof....and feeling in a manner I have not felt in the longest of times.
Your comment perfectly sums up the vibe of this song.

That's it.
Lonely, tormented, abdicated.... we are indeed..

Rula hi dia aapne ( teri mehfil mai lekin hum na honge) I was muttering to myself what if Mehdi Hassan had a version of this... And was surprised beyond words.
This how it must end...
❤❤तेरी महफिल में.. जमाने के माय..नो.. मैं, हम ना होंगे.....!!❤❤
Although I did not understand a single word of what she said, but I received a wonderful feeling from her voice, she does not need music, the feeling of repose in her voice, my God..
Obama : same here 😂
Fallen in love once again, thanks Hafeez Hoshiyarpuri for this master piece, beautiful sun by Farida Khanum, Mehdi Hassan and thanks to Arooj Aftab for making it international ❤
This track is something else, so surreal like moonlight on a dessert or a Dali artwork. It gives me a vibe that I feel every time I listen to "The Other Side Of The Road" from Rango. I wish Jaffer Zaidi or Kaavish was given one grammy for their "Gunkali" album.
Kaavish is outstanding.
I first heard her when I was walking near an outdoor thaeter and her music is magical. I got closer but they had finished practicing, then I had to leave. I was infront of an amazing artist and I didn't recognize her, now that I am listening to her I am in love. By the way I am hispanic and I love learning about other cultures please recomend other artists.
if you are wanting to listen to Pakistani music, i would recommend, 'Pasoori' it's a huge hit here in Pakistan and India. 'Tu Jhoom' is also a beautiful track and it's lyric translation is beautiful as well. Hope you enjoy the tracks!! 🤍🤍

Lyrics / Translation
Mohabbat /Love
Mohabbat karne wale kam na honge / Your lovers won't lessen in number
Teri mehfil me lekin hum na honge / But we won't there be in your gatherings
Zamane bhar kay gham ya ek tera gham / All the worldly sorrows or just the solitary sorrow of you (your parting)
Ye gham hoga to kitne gham na honge / If there is this one sorrow of your parting there won't remain many sorrows
Teri mehfil me lekin hum na honge / But we won't be in your gatherings
Agar tu ittefaqan mil bhi jaye / Even if I get you by some chance
Teri furqat kay sadmey kam na honge / The traumas of your seperation won't subside
Teri mehfil me lekin hum na honge / We won't be there in your gatherings
Mohabbat karne wale kam na honge / Your lovers won't lessen in number
Mohabbat karne wale kam na honge........
Teri mehfil mein hum na honge / We won't be anymore in your gatherings.....
iranian here: clicked because of the title (thought its an iranian). its more or less crazy that people in our region have to search for good music. there should be much, much more music like this but unfortunately its not. iran, pakistan and the other countries shall be free and inshallah we will prosper (again). zendeh bad pakistan & iran.
Much love to beautiful Iran from Libya. Have met really nice people from Iran at work
May we all prosper together; may we all join arms and stand tall together, Insha’Allah
I wish as much for your freedom, intellect, love, the arts, as we have here in Australia//This is the music that survives through adversities,,,,,,,,,Peace to you and your beautiful countries!!
@@lynnaandrea6931 thank-you Lynn, peace to you, your family and your beautiful country!

Will anyone here appreciate the background music? How amazing and soothing it is, all musicians have done a great Job! ♥️
A commendable effort but grossly overrated. Please listen to Iqbal Bano to understand what I am trying to say.
@@amirjafri1735 recommend me her best song?
Maeve Gilchrist, on harp. Check her out.
Congratulations for Grammy nominations ❤️🙂🙂
And now for winning
Am here after she won grammy award🔥🙂❤️
And for winning it.
She won! 😍
When she said" agr itifakan hum mil b jayein" that really made me cry 😭
And then "teri furqat ke sadme kam na honge".
I wept, despite trying not to.
What does this lines mean.
Desde Portugal , que linda voz e que lindo poema ….
Found you after 10 years. Still remember illegally burning your version of Mun Kunto Maula onto a CD and listening to it everyday on my way to school. Was mesmerised by your voice as a kid then and even more now
When you hear music that enters your soul, you carry it until its time to let go!
@@lynnaandrea6931 let go What?
@@zeeshankhan9581 My comment meant that music is a deeply spiritual memory, that is carried until you pass into the next life.....I am an artist and when I look at my work I remember the music playing at the time, it is embedded into the art!
When Obama mentions you in his playlist, you really did something extraordinary 💕💕
Love the song, the voice, the lyrics 💕💕
Same 🤣💖
Same 🙏😁
I'm also 😂..
maybe he listened to it when he droned innocent ppl in afganistan and pakistan
Exactly, I too came here bcz of Obama's Summer List
Hearing after seeing Obamas summer play list.... absolute gem
When i want an arm to wrap around me so i can cry in full honesty with myself, I come here. Because there is comfort in knowing that there is enough love out there, for everyone, everywhere. No matter how much it seems to be hopeless right now.
To everyone in this comment section, reading and writing secrets. And to this Ghazal writer and Arooj:
to feel her music is to understand her culture and yourself. congratulations arooj for the nomination! ❤️
A masterpiece from Mehdi Hassan that she was somehow able to do justice to. Mehdi Hassan is on another level though. A level no one can reach, but I respect you, Arooj Aftab!
Congratulations to Arooz Aftab on winning Grammy for this song 🇮🇳❤️🇵🇰 wishing u a lot for this moment...
