- Grwing Soursop / Custard Apple from seeds is quite easy all one has to do is follow a few simple steps. Patience is key in growing soursop trees from seeds and in due time it will bear fruit earlier than most other tree species.

Hello Debra, Yes, it does not matter how you position the seeds. Just keep the soil moist and based on my experience sprout appeared after almost a month. Happy gardening.

Great information. When do u recommend moving from container to soil? Or do you grow just in the container the whole time? 4 years starts to bear fruit great, how long is average lifespan and spacing need to grow in soil on mama earth? Again good video best one I've found so far.
You can transfer directly to soil after the seedlings have permanent leaves. Just put sticks or chicken wire around it to protect from pets. They are better grown directly in the ground for faster growth.

Hi. The information in your video was very useful. Please how do you always ensure that your soursop young seedling in pots or polythene bags survives through the hot dry season when there's no rain? Though there are longer hot dry season in Africa (about 5 months) but, your information / method might help me a lot especially how to do watering in the hot dry season for its survival and whether to apply fertiliser during that season. Thanks
While still seedlings, they should be placed in a semi-shaded area that is protected from strong heat of the Sun. They can ideally be placed under a tree where they receive lots of morning and afternoon sun but safe from the heat of noontime. As for watering, I apply water only when the soil is really dry, like top two inches dry. Start fertilizing once a month or more frequently based on your observation when they already have true leaves like four to six leaves. They are best suited planted directly in the ground. But you can also grow them in big containers like a drum. Hope this helps. Happy planting. Cheers.

Hi Sepp Huaba, I am from the Philippines and we have tropical/humid climate here with temperature reaching as high as 104 degress farenheit (40 degrees celcius) during summer. When still young, guanabanas need to be in partially shaded area to protect it from the scorching heat of he sun. For germinating seeds, I use soil mixed with compost/vermicast(50/50). For fertilizer while growing I use triple 14 fertilizer. Thank you for your kind comment and hope you grow guanabanas successfully. Cheers.

In Germany, there is only a small selection of Tripple 14 fertilizers. Now I have bought one, a granulate, which, however, must be dissolved in water. The mixing ratio is 1-3 grams per liter of water. Now the question arises to me how often I should use this liquid fertilizer now. Can you please help me here? :)

The fertilizer: Kristalon grün Calcium 14+14+14(+2):
14% total nitrogen
- 9.9% nitrate nitrogen
- 4.1% ammonium nitrogen
14% water-soluble phosphate
14% water-soluble potassium oxide
2% water-soluble magnesium oxide
6% water soluble calcium
Hi Sepp, Every once or two weeks is how I fertilize most of my plants but it would be better to make your own observation how they react to the fertilizer. If it is a guanabana seedling I start with a small dose of just four granules spread about two inches away from the trunk. This will make sure that your guanabana will not suffer from fertilizer burn. From thereon you can increase the application based on the reaction of your tree. If you're going to dissolve it in water, make sure that the solution is poured two to three inches away from the base of the plant. Always start with a small dose because you're using a chemical fertilizer.
Since you're from Europe, I'm sure you can also find there many organic fertilizers or at least a "slow release fertilizer." Slow release and organic fertilizers will not burn your plant roots so there is no problem with over-fertilization.

I planted a few and had them in the shade for the first week then placed them by the window for sun and after watching this im like ohhh noo I hope they are still good..Its been a few days in the sun. I just transferred them to a shady area and hope they are still good. What do you think ?
Once they have fully hardened they can be exposed to direct Sun.

Would it be possible for you to explain flower fertilization of the Soursop. I get many flowers but the fruits never develop.
There must be pollinators in your tree such as ants. If there are no natural pollinators around then "hand pollination" must be done. The flower starts off as female and then later becomes a male if not pollinated. What some growers do is to get the pollen from a male flower and rub it on a female flower using a small paintbrush. My Father's way back then was just to softly tap the back of the flower so the pollen drops on that round part in the center of the flower (This is what I do with almost all of my plants). Some flowers become fruit while others do not. Also, the age and size of your tree may also be contributing why flowers are dropping off. Sometimes they flower too early only to drop. Hope this helps. :)
In your case u need pollinators... If your place dont have much have ants.. Then the bees is your hope..if the ppol in your place have exterminated the bees and ants as a pest, then you need to educate your village. the fact that the flowers itself attracts ants especially the black ants.

Just an observation, the tree that is exposed to the sunlight, could it be the soil you used? Because it is different soil than the tree in the shade... just an observation.

They will be 1 year old in February. Is it OK to let them continue to grow and bear fruit in the same container? Yes, it must be transplanted to a lot bigger container to allow room for more and faster growth. If you have something even bigger with wide mouth like a cut out drum then much better. Happy and Prosperous New Year to you and your whole family po. Happy gardening.
@@donnaleedunuangobway6686 Complete fertilizer is what I usually apply when it gets past seedling stage. Dilute one to two spoonful of triple 14 in a gallon of water and apply about 150 ml of the same to the side of the container (away from the main trunk to avoid possible damage to main roots) then water to help the solution reach the lower roots. Fertilize once every 7 to 10 days. You can also add compost or vermicast once a month. When your tree reaches its third year, you can begin applying foliar fertilizer. The latter can help in even faster growth and also preparation for blooming on or about the fourth year. One thing I can share is to not water too often. Allow the top two inches of the soil to dry between watering. This will help prevent root rot of your Soursop tree. Hope this helps. Happy gardening.

Most commercial plants are hybrids. You won't get the same quality from the seeds. For example, atemoya and chirimoya varieties.

14-14-14 fertilizer also called complete fertilizer while they are still in the seedling stage. After transferring them to permanent containers or direct to the ground, I fertilize with Urea and triple 14 fertilizer.

Preferably only one seed per cup for easier transplanting. Yes, only those that sunk in water is considered viable but you can also try to germinate those that did not sink especially if there is no apparent damage on the seeds.

It is a tropical tree so not expected to survive freezing temperature.
