Wonderful. I just love it. From "Anne, mon bien -aimee" to the end is one of the most inspired passages in all French opera.
Do you have the complete recording?
I believe Bru Zane has a new version lined up.

Yes, I have the whole thing, it was available on TH-cam some years ago, that's how I got it. This opera has a lot of really beautiful or dramatic pages, and works really well.
I didn't know the PBZ was thinking about doing something about this opera... it was performed in 2023 at La Monnaie de Bruxelles and was available on OperaVision.
PBZ will however give a rare opera by Saint-Saëns next season, L'ancêtre.

@@erlangerleretour3964 Botstein did it...well...at Bard last year. It's on TH-cam. I may be wrong about PBZ. Btw, have you heard their new baritone version of "Werther"? Surely Massenet didn't intend it to be heard again after it had done its duty for Battistini.

@@griselidis1 I quite liked this recording, it brings another perspective on the work, the singers did great things with their roles, and the orchestra is really well captured... but I still prefer the tenor version (I'm very eager to attend to the production that will be given by the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, with the orchestra Les Siècles, Benjamin Bernheim and Marina Viotti !)

@@erlangerleretour3964 Perhaps I know the tenor version too well. I keep thinking, "That's not how the tune goes and it's nowhere near as good!"

I also find the tenor version more exciting and more dramatic.
If I remember correctly, I found somewhere an opposit statement about another Massenet's opera : Roberto Alagna once said that Thaïs would work better with a tenor Athanaël... I cannot agree with that !
