This was very neat - I did learn that static abilities just exist and are "timeless" for this purpose. The condition does get checked, but the "if life > 30 -> creature indestructible" simply exists, even if the condition hasn't been checked.
It's cool that they're even faster than those state based actions. We often think of instant speed as the fastest thing in the game, but really there are multiple other things a few tiers faster.
It can be especially confusing for a lot of players when you account for Timestamps. I also just like that the rules officially describe something in the game as being "true".
It does make since from a logical lens, that the creature should die, but then we gotta remember that the game of Magic is like a video game, it has an engine like Unity or Unreal, and there are rules under the hood and often times are never seen by most players in most games.
Also a good reason it has the damage prevention clause is because of cards like Shadowspear or Shay Cormac (new Legend from the same set). Both those cards can remove Indestructible, so even tho you won't be protected from boardwipes or spot removal anymore, you're still "half indestructible" from damage. Considering Caduceus' ingame lore, it's really nice flavor imo. I think it's a really sweet addition.
Ah, yeah, very good points. I wonder if they'll mix these two protection abilities on more cards going forward or if this equipment will have the unique honor of having them both. Also, which AC game is Caduceous from? I Only played a little bit of the first and second AC and Black Flag was the only one I played full, so I'm curious how the weapon lore is handled.
I know, right!? Love the work from this artist. The card is Feast of Succession and the artist is Seb McKinnon. I was about to say is was on a recent card but holy crap, Commander Legends was like 4 years ago, which is crazy.
Yup, one of the reasons it was, and still is, pretty dang powerful. Give that creature Vigilance and/or Doublestike and it will be racking up a ton of counters. I'm so happy that the newer version kept the same wording and not specify Combat Damage to an opponent.
Some other reasons the damage prevention is relevant are wither, infect, and (probably most importantly) you losing life and dropping below 30 later in the same turn.
You know.... I have absolutely no idea. I think that SBAs are the biggest list of sub-rules in the CR and nothing else has ever gotten as high up as Y, so it'll be the first one. It'll take 2 more new SBAs to be included and they've been adding a lot in the last few years with Battles/Sieges, Sagas, Dungeons, and Roles, so we might see it happen in less than a year.
So the only problem with this specific scenario is the 11 trample damage is dealt to the player the same time the player would gain 1 life. Netting a loss of 10 to 19 life and losing the sentinel
Oh, dang, sorry if I didn't make it clearer, but Connor had already replied and is correct. The scenario was if the equipped creature was attacking for the player at 29 life, not equipped to the creature blocking for the player at 29 life.

That's so cool!!! I would have thought it would have died faster than the indestructible effect.

Excellent episode. Thumbs up !
@@corvidcognition Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it, appreciate the comment.

@@ThisIsACommanderChannel The Caduceus is a plot relevant device in Odyssey. Don't want to spoil it, so I'll just leave it at that.
@@slavthesage5661 Ah, my brother was a big fan of that one and I think I got it in a sale. I'll check it out
:) noice stuff!
NOICE! (Key and Peele reference I assume?)
That is some art. What card is that from? Recent card?

Dang this game, it is so complex. I feel like this one shouldn't have confused me so much at first but that was a brain burner.
I hope it made sense in the end.
I never noticed that Jitte is just any combat damage, not just to a player.

Oh yeah, for sure, Wither and Infect would be able to kill off an Indestructible creature still. Good points.
I noticed that the SBAs use letters at the end in the rules listing, what happens after they add one beyond Z? Is it aa or a1?

Ghalta was a blocker in this situation. Temple doesn’t matter when you’re blocking.
