soo i lasted 1 hour 15 mins however everything was still in tact could've potentially done this for another 2 hours, unfortunately i am human and my legs get tired and due to recording this Finland my right hand froze because i had to constantly take it out the gloves to power the camera. Eventually the camera died because electronics cant last very long when its cold. the next day after it was -28 i did went out side and it felt about the same so no major difference between -25 and -30 and the lakes might be rivers next time i do this video its gotta be -30 or more
A little tip, leave your nose/mouth free. The moisture from your breath will make your face cold fast with a scarf over it. Trust me, frostbite can sneak up on you
Oh yeah I’ve never and will never step on ice that is at a location I didn’t step during summer Pretty much If I don’t know the depth of the lake during summer I won’t step there in winter because if the ice isn’t hard enough and it breaks you’ll be fine if it’s shallow like a Seashore
Great video and you're doing good out there! Few tips for dressing up for cold weather. Wear merino wool for first layer. It's transfers the moisture, keeps dry and warm. Unlike cotton which is the worst choice for first layer. Wear layers but don't make them too tight. Outer layer a good winter jacket and insulated pants and make sure they are loose enough because air is the best insulator. Same goes with winter boots. Don't stuff them full of socks. Mittens are better than gloves. Also covering your mouth and nose will gather the moisture of your breath and it will freeze, so keep your face uncovered if possible. But yeah, be safe have fun and remember, weather is merely a state of mind 😉
When you factor in the wind, it becomes a completely different situation. Lakes and rivers don’t freeze if there’s water flow, even small currents can have a huge impact on how strong the ice is.. if it forms at all. Areas that don’t freeze are almost always influenced by water flow.
The most important thing in layering is to make air between the layers so tight loose and loose. If you are moving you need to have less clothes so you don't sweat . Firs layer should always be tight to your skin and breathable fabric so it removes sweat from your skin . The face mask actually make you colder in long-run because it gets frozen from you breathing and when it's frozen your face gets more colder. The important thing in your head is to make sure you have a hat that's breathable so it removes sweat from your head and you should have a scarf so any cold air is not getting inside your jacket . And every opening sould be tight your shirt in your pants no air getting in your stomach your pants sould be tucked in your legs for example a rubber band and your sleeves should be tight to. So air between layers and make sure you don't get any warm air to escape anywhere .
And I ain't a professional I have only tried and found out what is working and what is not working I can say 3 layers on bottom and 3 layers on top a hat a scarf and one layer of socks bots and walking in -30 28 km and sleeping outside and I didn't feel cold ok I have a winter sleeping bag but anything else is not fancy stuff for example my winter jacket is an swedish military jacket from 1941 and I payed 2€ for it.
I was once over 2 hours on bus stop waiting for bus to go to school at -35C. Bus should have arrived every 15 minutes and I could have even walked to school in 30-45 minutes or back to home in 5. When bus finally arrived, I only could go half way with that one so I ended up having to walk half the distance anyway. Yeah, I had been cycling to school no matter the weather before that and I was only going to school with bus because school banned anyone from cycling "too long" distance. I'm now cycling to work year round and I haven't stepped in bus in 15 years (different story relating to army).
Nice video, thank you 😊 Try this; don't cover your nose and mouth so your lashes wont freeze. And it is much comfortable to breathe ect. Trust me, you get used to it. I'm twice your age, lived all my life at the Northern Finland 😊
True that the scarf will become moist and cold because of breathing. Up to you to decide which one you don't like the most, frozen scarf or the immediate cold to breathe.
Yeah river flow makes it to stay unfrozen to a point. If you ever need to make anything without gloves in those temperatures for more than a couple of minutes, your hands will be so cold! Positive side: people pay money to have that look, which you can have in just a 20 min walk!
@@GIOBOZZ When I was in for my extra NCO time (longer service), the instructors wanted us to stay prone for a field maneuver exercise. After a couple hours in -35C the groaning got so loud I ordered my squad to stand up & warm up, right as an opposing troop walked out of the woods inside our "zone of control." No repercussions for me though, since a guy on the other team got frostbite later that day :D
It was plus 1 and 2 in Vantaa Myyrmäki today. Weather forecast says that there is going to be some plus and minus days sometimes in this and next week. Luckily in South-Finland we don't have minus all the time. Last year we had it all the time even in the south.
Be careful not to get frostbites Bro, even the little ones are very painfull and in serious cases the frozen part of the body LITERALLY dies and has to be amputated!🥶 Stay warm!🙏 Greets from central Finland Jyväskylä, love Your vids!✌️😊
As you can see you can survive in -30C if you have decent clothes. If you have a lot of clothes on and walking you get even hot and sweaty. Watch out your face, hands and feet still,You can easily freeze them.
@@GIOBOZZ Foxes are chill, only bad thing about them is they eat cats. See them really often atleast here in the west, even in the middle of towns. Really skittish animals that don't want anything to do with humans.
Dude love this, understand the gear situeation but you are not constantly pumping your fingers and toes to get blood rushing through the body. It helps a lot trust me. Also exposing your face like first 15min for a day, then longer periods cleanses your lungs and adjusts yourself for a cold climate. Can understand the timeline, but best way to adjust for winter or those annoying sääsket on summer is to just expose until you are master of situeation. Regards: Finn.
Merino wool underwear is best. But be VERY careful or moths WILL eat them. Happened to me. Damn things cost me about 50€ a piece (100€) and were full of holes...
After some years in Finland, you will look back at this laughing thinking how normal everyday thing something like that is to people.. Man's here talking about surviving 🤣

Greetings from Lappeenranta! You should be very careful, when going on ice!!!
The lake was not frozen because that spot under the bridge probably had a current.
Knowing your ice man! Do not.. i repeat DO NOT go to ice if uncertain. . For anyone moving on ice having naskalit is just like having seatbelt

Brown ice and any place where water moves/flows is dangerous.

@@justskip4595 welcome to finland buddy
ice under bridges is weaker or non-existent due to the restricted flow of water through them, as the support pilars block part of the water.

Yeah can get frost bites too if really cold and windy or driving snowmobile etc

Be careful on the ice, so many factors to how strong it actually is. Seen someone drop thru even after 2 days of -20*, no current.

Never trust that the frost has frozen the lakes properly, do not go out on the ice, especially near bridges and rivers.
