- The American composer, Ulysses Kay (1917-1995) wrote a substantial body of orchestral music of which too little has been commercially recorded. Not to be confused with his Sinfonia in E from 1951, his Symphony dates from 1967. This performance features the Juilliard Orchestra conducted by Jean Morel.

I feel that both the West and the East are close in spiritual expression. It is a very instructive piece of music.
Thank you for making this available; it's a very important document of American music.
Happy to hear this for this first time today! It would be wonderful to have a series of new recordings of Kay's orchestral and chamber music.
The music remains in constant tension throughout but the harmony seems accessible at times; I also liked the textures and static sound masses !
Thank you for uploading this powerhouse of a work, but I would like to make it known that this performance is not conducted by Jean Morel, but by James Conlon, who led the NYC premiere of this work at Alice Tully Hall in Manhattan (by this time Sixten Ehrling was the principal conducting teacher at Juilliard).
Thanks for the information. The information on the conductor and performance came from one of my open reel trading partners in December 1979, but I have no reason to doubt that your information is correct. Thanks again for the correction.
