Hello, boys and girls. Alan has uploaded 'The Tastemaker' and it can be found here: th-cam.com/video/XFW3CVApHh8/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AlanLastufka Go show the man some love!!
I've been a fan of his since 2009, and this has become my absolute favourite thing he's ever done. Absolute lightning in a bottle. Wonderful atmosphere. Thanks so much for uploading
Lyrics (To the best of my abilities... that third verse is hard to decipher) A turn of love comes down the line A place I'll never go No one will ever know I kiss a hand I cannot hold I scale the mountain top Just for the photo-op And when I see what I have done Lay down on the piano It takes my breath away And I don't mind that it's not real What difference does it make You believe it anyway I wanna be anyone but me now I wanna be anywhere but here now Wanna believe anything I choose now I wanna have anything I want now I stole the Sun from someone else And how is that a crime If it still shines like mine A time I could have spent with you Is there for all to see And that's good enough for me I wanna be anyone but me now I wanna be anywhere but here now Wanna believe anything I choose now I wanna have anything I want now Take the stairway to where I wanna be A show you never saw A dress you never wore Reflecting back at me, killed the set price Friends I never made I hope I don't again
Cannot wait for a tour... there IS going to be a tour...? Kidding. When all this blows over, I'll be there to see this live. It's gonna be a spectacle.
I hope you understand how much I thank you for uploading this. This song came into my life in the very right moment and, even if Steven composed it, it was your decision to release it. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for sharing. I find this to be one of the very strongest of the Future Bites stream of songs. Strange that it not only was removed from the album proper, but relegated to obsolete media in demo form.
Thanks for posting. I popped my cassette in the car yesterday and enjoyed this song so much. Then the tape stopped playing and won’t eject. I sure hope he releases this digitally sometime.
This song was originally the last song of the album. During the first lockdown, SW found that it was not enough in the album mood, and decided to remove it from the main album, and to replace it by Count of unease !😝
I like the contrast between the naked "syntheticness" of much of the synth sound, and the humanity and heart-modulated dynamics of the singing. (I also like the way the synth sounds move into simulating something more organic, too, but not as much as I like the ... 8-bit? ... sound against the richness of Steven's singing.)
Such a beauty! - This now is the one I will play to anyone who will tell me Porcupine tree is like 'OK - musically', but the voice of the singer is too monotonous and doesn't transfer the emotionalism of the lyrical content. Thank you ;)
@@dontmakelemonade There's a proper version that was originally intended to be the album closer instead of Count Of Unease. It hasn't been released yet, but Steven said he'll release it as a standalone single some time later.
Omg another Steven masterpiece that's not on the main album. He does this a lot. Best song of the album. Thanks for uploading. Wonder if there are lyrics posted?
I was going to post a lyric video but found none online and don't want to misinterperate them myself, even though Steven is pretty easy to understand most of the time!
@@anotheryoutubechannelabout1321 okay well thanks anyway I just have trouble with his lyrics sometimes very much the opposite . Anyway I'm enjoying the album even more so is disc 3 in all of the extras as usual seems to be better than the original album anyway thank you again for responding
@@hmcdonnell23 It seems to be a recurring theme that Steven Wilson always has B-sides and demos that outshine the album tracks. Porcupine Tree had a similar occurrence, but those tracks were usually seen by most fans as good accompaniments rather than replacements to the album tracks. I wonder if it's because, with the albums, he so heavily curates the over-all style track by track, so that there's a cohesive narrative woven throughout which doesn't allow for the standalone gems that tell their own story.
@@tom7204 He’s talented with the ability to pull many different music genres off so I give him much deserved credit for. TTB and TFB are my least favorites of his solo career but oddly, my wife kind of likes this new vibe after previously thinking his songs were depressing along with PT while I am the exact opposite. He nearly hypnotizes me into liking his new music but then I snap out of it and revert back to HCE or earlier along with Porcupine Tree. TFB is going to be an acquired taste for me.
@@hmcdonnell23 I was just wondering how times have U listened to the entire Future Bites Album? Get it 5 listens and maybe it will start to connect? Because that's what happened to me especially the Blu-Ray Dolby Atmos or 5.1 DTS Surround Choices and I personally have a 5.1 Surround System... But it Sounds Great on my System!!!
What i don't understand is why not just put this on the album? 42mins is not enough Steven I WANT MORE STEVEN WILSON PLEASE. Album dropped and there was only 3 songs I hadn't heard :(.
So this is what the original ending of the album was supposed to be, before it got changed to Count of Unease. I would’ve loved to see this properly mixed and put on the album, possibly right before Count of Unease. That would’ve been a perfect ending
I must admit to feeling much the same with To the Bone. Whilst I think there was some really good material on the album proper, the songs that got me were bonus content. There's actually a pattern here going back to 2001-02, when I found Recordings to be stronger than the albums from which the tracks had been omitted and then wondering why on bloody earth Drown with Me was left off In Absentia.
@@GMHG777 @MetalMadness66 Very much agree, although I think we're talking about Door Marked Summer ;-). Obviously there was also more than a hint to the wonderful guitar outro in Blackfield's 'Pain', leaving me thinking that Door Marked Summer may well have been conceived in the early 2000s. But definitely too good to be left on SW's shelf (as was Watching You Sleep). But then again, speaking of patterns, I suppose this reveals that I've reached the 'conservative fan' point where I'd rather have SW repeat himself than exploring new grounds. So fair play to him.
Thanks very much for sharing this. I don't own a cassette player and so wasn't sure how to get to listen to the tracks without shelling out ££s on new kit!

I'm wondering why in the album there's one of the worst track that he ever made in his whole career (Follower) but not this one that's absolutely wonderful.
@@kristofferrosvall8709 the album after all isn't bad, I personaly find it a little bit too short (42 mins) compared to his old solo works, but I like that. Follower have a really poor lyric and a sound that almost remaind me a boy band work; not my cup of tea, thanks.
Honestly one of the best songs I've ever heard
Steven's best song ever, its criminal this isn't well known. It's absolutley beautiful.

Lyrics (To the best of my abilities... that third verse is hard to decipher)
A turn of love comes down the line
A place I'll never go
No one will ever know
I kiss a hand I cannot hold
I scale the mountain top
Just for the photo-op
And when I see what I have done
Lay down on the piano
It takes my breath away
And I don't mind that it's not real
What difference does it make
You believe it anyway
I wanna be anyone but me now
I wanna be anywhere but here now
Wanna believe anything I choose now
I wanna have anything I want now
I stole the Sun from someone else
And how is that a crime
If it still shines like mine
A time I could have spent with you
Is there for all to see
And that's good enough for me
I wanna be anyone but me now
I wanna be anywhere but here now
Wanna believe anything I choose now
I wanna have anything I want now
Take the stairway to where I wanna be
A show you never saw
A dress you never wore
Reflecting back at me, killed the set price
Friends I never made
I hope I don't again
Thank you, I heard “I stole this song from someone else, and “it still sounds like mine” lol
I think it's Eternal love at the start.
And killed the set price is kudos and the praise
It's "A ton of love comes down the line". Can be heard more clearly on the new release.
