+Rahul M : Dost, i grew up in India on supposedly "indigenous" curriculum, and i also got the same vibe there. We were made to feel ashamed of the hindu heritage. Now I am a graduate, and with my independent research found most of the things taught to us were completely false.

Amazing lecture sir. Your talks, books & references are precious. Its for the youths now to share and shape your ideas of 'Soft Power Reparations' & 'Mutual Understanding'.
One question I have in my mind - I am in my 30's and have been traveling the Himalayan range for last few years, documenting temples, traditions & cultures. In my journey across Nepal, I have come across villages & mountain ranges that resembles in their names the great Indian historical association. My question is , Where does Nepal fall in your Great Indian Narrative project?
Note: Prithvi Narayan Shah, who is considered as the founding father of Nepal has Islamic ancestral lineage & the pre-Nepal that existed before him were Tribal kingdoms (like Kirat) & Hindu kingdoms (Lichhavi dynasty).
And to quote the word 'Breaking India forces', Nepal herself is under attack from the same force. Being one of the last Hindu majority country, Nepal needs her own 'Khastriyas' to protect and preserve what still shines in the glory of her past.

Thank you Rajivji. As was mentioned in this video, I would like to make a quick note about the mentality of Indians attacking other Indians. I see this often these days that when any article/video on India is posted, particularly if it is negative, the very first thing that Indians do is to apologize for it and then they blame/attack other Indians. No one actually takes the time to check and see if in fact the negative information posted is accurate and what the agenda of the individuals is, when posting the article.
Also when understanding the root cause of an issue in India, Indians tend to blame each other without actually checking to see if there are any external influences on the problem. It is equally important to identify the external/foreign sources of problems just as it is to identify internal sources of the problems.

Great ! Yes, India badly needs a grand narrative. Looking forward to your book. Because it's a ' Mahakatha of Bharat, ' the book will eventually require translated copies in Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali and other languages. The point is to spread the idea of ' Bharat ki Mahakatha ' to as many Indians as possible. So that eventually it becomes a reality. Jai Ho !

      I am a south indian
I grew up in army environment, later in a civil neighbourhood. my parents never taught me to be a proud hindu but they exposed me to different aspects of hindu culture. I never felt depressed as a cultural person. but I felt other cultural people like muslims are more powerful since there parents never cared for whatever they did, but my mom would not let me go to the park alone.

    • @dharmashekhar1047
      @dharmashekhar1047 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Inferiority Complex or Superiority Complex or any other type of Complex arises out of our habit of comparing oneself with others. If you compare your weakness with the strength of other , you develop inferiority complex. If you compare your strength with weakness of others , you develop superiority complex. Both Complexes create problems , which remain unresolved for years decades & centuries (as it happened with colonised hindus).
We can kick this habit out of our life permanently & solve this problem immediately & NOW. you dont need weeks, years, decades to solve this problem.

I have to thank you for another thing. In addition to bringing back an awareness and consolidating the Indian Identity. I have to thank you for interviewing S. Nithyananda's special-power-children. If you did not interview and vouch for them, I would not have believed it. It was too good for me to believe as truth. After that, I have heard so many lectures of S. Nithyananda on TH-cam and can say this is a turning point in life for me. I used to meditate a lot anyway but listening to Nithyananda Sangh has added another shade, quality and hope to it. Millions of best wishes and thanks to you. I myself will soon carve my path of Dharma towards the country and community. I have to write a couple exams before that. Lastly, you will do a job better than any cultural minister anyway. Anytime now my Tamil friends ask of Punjab's intellectual contribution, I am going to take your name. :). So far I was stuck with Hargobind Khorana, Freedom fighters, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj only.

Another scintillating lecture by Rajiv Malhotra ji, highlighting the importance of "A Grand Narrative" for India if it has to emerge as a "Vishwa Guru". The distinction between 'A Sacred' and a 'A Holy', which is liable to be mixed up in Hindu thinking, but not in the thinking of the Abrahamic faiths, was well highlighted in the lecture, signifying at the same time that India's Grand Narrative would have sacredness inherent in it. The well entrenched 'Breaking India' forces are likely to be inimical to such a concept. For the present, there are many challenges ahead in the process of evolving this concept of "A Grand Narrative" for India. The IAAS is the most appropriate forum to evolve this concept.

Wonderful talk, thank you Rajiv ji. It is so disheartening to realize how out of its depth our so-called "nationalist" government is on this critical nation-building topic. Nothing at all has been done to advance our own story in the citadels that control its telling. There has not even been an acknowledgement that such a project should be front and centre. It's scary to think how adrift we would be if not for Indians like Rajiv Malhotra. Sadly, he is a great Indian because he is outside India. He would be smothered, shouted down and drowned out if he were inside. Let us all support this man as much as we can in our capacity. Tragically, the govt cannot and will not support him.

I think vedas and the knowledge given by our rishis should be the grand narrative of India .vedas tough us about ones. Our rishis done fantastic work on everything form medical science to astronomy which is even more advance than modern science. Our rishis achievement is that they make everything thing spiritual which give moral values in education .today's world have every science but lack of moral values. For example modern science give the concept of gym for good physique whereas our rishi patanjali give as yoga for both better physical and mental health thought spirituality . Similarly ayurveda and astronomy. Yes, it's true that many Indian people narrative is mogul because we can't aware of these great vedas and rishs. We only know that before mogul India only have caste system that was advertise by Britisher.

Wonderful, informative (mind-blowing!) talk by Rajivji. I love the presenting of a Himachali topi and the mention of Shimla at the end - was born there! :) We need to create and fund THINK TANKS in India and in USA (full of "intellectual kshatriyas", Sanskrit scholars et al) that are prepared to launch intellectual attacks in the public domain on anyone (individual/institution/org/media et al) who is distorting India's Grand Narrative, India's history, misinterpreting India's scriptures, posturing as authoritative experts on Sanskrit w/o "Adhikaar"/nec. qualifications, dismissing (or trivializing) India's contributions to science, humanities, etc. It's imperative we all promote Rajivji's (and people he has endorsed) work to spread the truth about India and her rich civilization/heritage everywhere - esp where we see it being distorted/ misrepresented /ignored.

What an enlightening expose on " Bharatiya Mahakatha ". It is so saddening that we as a " Rashtra " do not have any access to the pioneering works (analysis, theses, thoughts, writings) of Dr. Ambedkar, one of the foremost luminaries of modern nation-building, hidden away in an institution (Columbia University) that only a self-hating, Bharat-hating, left-wing stooge of Sheldon Pollock, by the name of Ananya Vajpayi had been given access to. Just think about that and let that sink in for moment! Someone like Sheldon Pollock having a sole authority of examining Dr. Ambedkar's works!!!!! I didn't even know this until Rajiv spoke about it in this video. I bet this has opened huge can or worms that has lead to all kinds of misrepresentation of how Ambedkar's voluminous work (on our Rashtra) should be seen and understood by the very people/Rashtra he belonged because the " Adhikar " is vested in a foreign person, a foreign institution in a foreign country = none of them have the best interests of Bharat in their minds! If our leaders, including our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi had any balls, they should understand such a deep issue, connected to our very " Atman " of our nation. Mr. Modi should make good use of the international political clout he has generated over the years and have the Ambedkar's works buried in of Columbia University archives, examined, studied and published by an entire team of authentic, independent social scientists, so we all could understand what made Dr. Ambedkar who he was and what he envisioned for modern Bharat.

Rajiv sir has everything that makes a person outstanding. He is a knowledge powerhouse, an intellectual warrior, a leader, a student, a guru! It would be a blessing for India if India's Ministry of Culture use the services of Infinity Foundation for framing its policies and operationalize it. He could as well be made a Rajya Sabha MP under seats reserved for eminent citizens. In any case he is already doing a wonderful job without giving his opponents a chance to tag him with a particular political ideology.
Seems like I have known so much about myself and our Rashtra after going through this lecture. My curiosity has now increased to learn more and more about our civilization but without using a western prism!

Indians surely don't have their act together, a Bollywood masala news will get millions of views meanwhile this gem of a lecture will probably not even get more than a few thousand views. Shame.

Excellent talk which elicits much food for thought. Evidently rashtra, or ‘grand narrative’ is much more than nationalism, a modern term, and doesn’t mean empire, like the British or Spanish empires, etc. In the case of N. America ‘frontier’ (mentality or self-identity) is a good metaphor or symbol, but what does it mean in ordinary parlance? What is behind that expression, and also ‘American exceptionalism’? Nothing else than a hubristic determination at world domination (being the ‘police of the world’) by the rich and powerful. Nothing sacred about it.
About ‘nationalism’, one is reminded of George Orwell’s saying: ‘nationalism is the last refuge of a scoundrel’.
