I love how the burn Anderson is giving to Hakuno can be seen as Nasu own critics about generic silent self-insert protagonists. I mean, its spot on. Generic savior type, loved by the plot, loved by the characters, loved even by the story, but nothing else behind their genericness. They are objectively boring. The only way for them to become something is to gain substance, a personality, during the course of their adventure, and that's the advice Andersen is giving to Hakuno, to become a true person and not just an empty vessel.
It seem you didn't understand what I meant, or that my wording was poor.
I said that Andersen critized the archetype that Hakuno is incarnating in his eyes, the role she is playing, I didn't say that Hakuno was generic. And neither Anderen judged her "by her cover". His analyze is finer than saying she is devoid of personality.
You have to be honest. Andersen is right in that regard.Look at Hakuno as a person. She is almost empty. She might be a snarker, obstinate, but she have very few traits apart from that. Can you list a hobby of Hakuno ? What she likes ? What she dislike ? Not really. It's not her fault, she was not even a true person to begin with. But it's the truth.
When Andersen is saying she lack substance, he doesn't mean that as an insult. He is saying that Hakuno need to live, to and I quote "know herself", before being criticized as a person. Andersen does not judge a book by his cover, he simply aknowledge that she haven't lived enough yet for him to say anything about her. He is encouraging her to become a full person through "loss and profit". In few words, he is wishing her good luck and a full life.
Shirou analogy, man/girl, bless your soul. How many time have I seen our poor Shirou mistreated. The anime would have benefited from some of his internal monologues.
I am really talking about Hakuno as at the start of the events of the game. She have to discover most of herself on the way of Extra, and beforehand she is almost clueless about even herself.Although I have to admit I went a little too far with her being empty, who she is is revealed because of the interactions with the servants and masters. Some of her own feelings even surprise herself early on. It is that I make reference to, the Hakuno of the start of Extra and ( well, not as much but still ) CCC. Most of herself come from those events, and its that progression that make her... Well, herself, our snark goddess. I mean, the more you play Extra, the less the dialogue option you take seem to have an impact as she is clearly becoming her own person.
So, to put an end to this : Andersen analysis is not inherently wrong at the moment it is said. It is however not entirely accurate, and is more destined to be, in my opinion, a jab at a type of character that is rampant in JRPG and anime, like I said before.
PS : I didn't mean to start an argument, and I hope it's all clear now. And I ignored that Hakuno had a sweet tooth. Do we learn it in some side material of Extra or in CCC ? ( And for not liking pervert, she definitively is one at heart. I mean, she was reaaaaaally insistent on seeing the program installation between Kiara and Sakura... )

Why she wouldn't? She was pragmatic, so she ate what she could as she needed it, that doesn't mean that she don't want to enjoy food, moreso after experiencing Gawain's mashed potatoes.
What I meant that arthuria didn't hates gawain's cooking per se, it's just she is too kind that she eat the bland dish (like leo said), it makes shirou's cooking ( or any food she eat there) taste heavenly in comparison
