Jay, I use the old oil I take out of the vehicles for bar oil and I use it to put on lumber that needs to be on or in the ground. Oil does not loose its viscosity over time. I’m 74 and have been doing this for decades. Love watching your videos and the content. Keep up the good work guys and oh by the way Jen - the right man for any job is a woman !! Best wishes from Green Bay, wis.
Usually it's my wife calling me a tool but different strokes for different folks..LOL. Yessir, Will Prowse is my solar guru go to guy! I went with the Lifepower4 Lithium Rack Battery (5120 watts, 24 volt 200 amp hr) and a 3000 all in one Growatt inverter. Solar cables in..2 battery cables and 1 Romex wire, 1 hour install for me, 2 years plus and never turned it off..works perfect. Can't wait to see your system guys..good luck! Oh my price was $1500 for the Battery and $750 for the inverter from Signature Solar in 2022.
Think it cool what you all are doing. We live year round off grid in the mountains of West Virginia and also use a small simple solar unit that has pieced together. Run all the same things you do. There is something said to just keeping it simple! Good luck and enjoy seeing what other off griders are doing.
wife and i bought 2.27 acres in Nevada and will be going off grid next April.. her sister is also coming out with us.. we bought all the solar and also have 2 mini-splits.. putting a 10x20 shed on the property.. we will be buying a used RV and her sister already has one.. always learning from video's like yours.. i'm no professional off gridder.. but with vids like this it will make it less challenging and less overwhelming.. looking forward to the next few vids as it will be basically what we will be doing.. subbed!
I don't blame you for procrastinating. Watching you unplug everything made my heart pound while crossing my fingers for you! Your project made me start thinking about a plan for an outage. I'm exicted about doing this now!
Very nice job, glad Jen was able to help get you started on this. You have the original build video and now a disassemble video to keep together forever. Very nice job you guy's 👏.
Jay, Im glad you clarified about Jen being an important part of the homestead. Despite what you may think we like having you around.😂 Awesome upgrade to the solar. This should make a great change for the homestead.
Loving it. I’m upgrading my off grid site and am going with the Anker F3800. I’ve got a place for it in my trailer so I can keep the lifePo4 batteries in their happy place temperature wise. Keep up the good work!
Those other ends of that cord, you plugged up to your solar generator, from the solar panels, the company should send end caps to the other ends not being used so dirt or nothing gets in the ones you aren't using. I like your solar videos.
Very sentimental watching the demolition of your first power installation. Hoping you can sell to someone who is starting up. Anxiously awaiting coming videos.
You can add tracker solar system to 1000w system by restoring old series parallel to 1000w and add tracker solar system in series to 1000w system you have to wire all solar panels in tracker system in one series then connect the positive to the negative of 1000w system and the negative of tracker system go to the negative terminal of the inverter mppt and the positive of 1000w system go to the positive terminal of the inverter mppt
Just curious, but what happened to that big Dabbsson battery unit that was powering the cabin several months ago. You had installed it where the new pantry is at then moved it to the loft I believe.
Hi kids 😊 are you still going to insulate (not sure that’s what needs done) the mud room before winter? If I’ve missed that video sorry! Love to watch you both! ❤
They prefer mild temps yes. But it was 90 degrees the three days i was building this and they were fine.....the room is staying quite warm though, so some venting will probably be necessary in the summer
Maybe it has to do with age, wisdom, or experience, but it is hard to fix what isn't broken! I have gone as far as keeping the old for backup and adding the new next to it. We and others have kept an old vehicle as a spare if the new one breaks, so why not a solar system... ? (However you have several other backups.) In theory every project should go well and work perfectly from the start, that is why it is a theory and not a fact... 🙄
Assume you are going with 48v battery all in one inverter. May be difficult to wire up solar panels to meet input voltage and amps limits. Others have found that voltage or amps limits doesn't allow anywhere near the max PV power to be sent to all in one inverter. Seems most of these new inverters are better suited to large panels with 40-50v and 11-14amps output to inverter. Sounds like you have already purchased the lifepo4 bats, however if not, you may want to watch fellow Ytuber who got manufactured kit (16 cells, bms, metal enclosure ,fiber spacers, etc) using 314ah cells for total cost of $2000 for 16,000 watt hrs of capacity. 280ah cells also available. Be aware that new bats and all in one inverter don't like to be too warm, so may need to ventilate the solar shed in summer- door open, screened vents or temporary fan with thermostat. Pine trees need to come down between the shading and the sap.
Curious if you have come to Alaska or not, see the tee shirt and wonder if you have visited here or not. Summers are much nicer here in central Matsu Burrow ... footnote, we have what is called a Burrow and you have counties... same thing only different. I believe New York is the same as alaska. Good luck with panels. Its happening everywhere sooner or later. I do not, emphasis on do not like EV cars and trucks but at some time eventually will be the thing. So going back to weather in Alaska, winters are very cold and some times considered brutal. Fairbanks has temps of minus 60 to 85 minus temps for months. I do not think its as bad as when I moved here twenty five years ago. I used to live in Anchorage and before that was Ketchikan where it rains 330 days of the year. Batteries as they are now do not perform well in extremely cold weather. You take Fairbanks for example, come winter, lots of people start their rig and leave it run 24/7. You shut the rig off for even a few minutes and its frozen to the point of never start again till weather has thawed the ground. Metal will retain that cold for weeks after sun is out and quite warm outside. Take care kids
As an insider in the LFP industry prices are low right now because China tooled up big for the EV market that flopped leaving insane excess production. These prices won’t last as they are actually selling below manufacturing costs.

Love the advice and thanks for the support!
I like the idea of a solar shed as opposed to panels on the roof and trying to jenga the batteries and inverter set up in a good location.
Off grid Jay is awesome
Watching the series of videos. My anxiety level is high just watching you pull everything apaht
Hey buddy.....I was too, 🙂
Good job, Jan and Jen ❤. Well done 👏 ✔️ 👍. My friends 👏, take care ❤.
😀
Nice job on the solar. Since those pine trees havent been dripping sap in the oast, they might have pine beetles, or some other bug thats eating them
Nothing wrong with winging it! It's daily for us! 😂 Can't wait to see the finished fancy new solar setup! 😁
I am so happy the little violins make you smile! Love you guys!😂
We giggle often about it. Thanks again my friend

You are smart to tackle this early. Winter can come on fast up north. Happy to see your family thriving!!
Thanks

Looking great so far. Before you say done with it, don't forget to insulate the doors.
I don't blame you for procrastinating. Watching you unplug everything made my heart pound while crossing my fingers for you! Your project made me start thinking about a plan for an outage. I'm exicted about doing this now!
You will like today's part two video. It's easier than I thought
Now you can take the first system and use it in an outbuilding somewhere else.
New project, yay.
So far , so good!
Very nice job, glad Jen was able to help get you started on this. You have the original build video and now a disassemble video to keep together forever. Very nice job you guy's 👏.
Jay love and enjoy your videos. May the lord bless and protect you and Jen working on the homestead and building and working on the solar system
I m waiting to see the Next video. You will love the Lifepo4 upgrade.
Awesome , can't wait for the next episode ! Thanks for sharing !!!!! 😊🙏👍❤️
Tomorrow!
Jay,
Im glad you clarified about Jen being an important part of the homestead.
Despite what you may think we like having you around.😂
Awesome upgrade to the solar.
This should make a great change for the homestead.
😀
Nice job tearing it down. Bold move when you are off-grid. At least you already had the power station.
👍
Nice start! Can't wait to see the final product!
Thanks KG
God Bless you 🙏🏻 my friends 🫶🏻Hope you are well, stay safe and take care 👍🏻 Appreciate you always!
You should use the heating pads for your water for the house some how
This is getting me pumped to get going on our cabin! Hopefully in a month. Cheers!
Love your shirt Jen!
Looks great so far ! Teamwork makes the dreamwork !

Insultation looks good. Vapor barrier came to mind. Also, mortar mix for the cement boar seems. Seal it up.
👍
Keep up the hard work 💪🏻! She's coming together nicely 👌
Very good presentation.
Thanks my friend.....appreciate you and the support
This will be a wonderful adventure!!!
Doing great. Looks good.
😀
Love watching all your videos
Fantastic!!!
Excited to see the next one

Saw the floor now
What about the doors are you going to insulated
Very sentimental watching the demolition of your first power installation. Hoping you can sell to someone who is starting up. Anxiously awaiting coming videos.
You and me both!
Good job so far! I’m interested in seeing the new system that you install!
😀
With the other solar system can you use in the look out little cabin where you watch the beautiful animals
We could
You can add tracker solar system to 1000w system by restoring old series parallel to 1000w and add tracker solar system in series to 1000w system

Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
Good job
Appreciate that!
Good job nice and neat,
God luck sir, i beliv on you. Be safe.❤
😃

Currently don't have a use for it..
Hi kids 😊 are you still going to insulate (not sure that’s what needs done) the mud room before winter? If I’ve missed that video sorry! Love to watch you both! ❤
Probably not we didn't do it last year and it worked good with the windows we have up Probably seal up the sides and top tho soon
Could you use the old system down by the new building and just get afew panels
That's an idea
Good job! Looking forward to the next step. ✝️🙏❤🇺🇸☘🍍🤗
During the hot summer days, do you need to worry about the heat in the battery shed? Can those batteries overheat?
They prefer mild temps yes. But it was 90 degrees the three days i was building this and they were fine.....the room is staying quite warm though, so some venting will probably be necessary in the summer

Jay you for got to put the foam board in the door to??????
Maybe.. soon we'll take care of the doors
You work the way I do . Make do with what you got. It’s not pretty but pretty good enough.
What about insulation of the floor?
It was there
Can you do an off grid shower video?
Like how it works ? How it's set up?
@@OffgridwithJayandJen yeah kind of like that. Also could you bring out the hot tub again.
@famfanfun4502 yes Jay is gonna do a full wall thru video of the hot tub video very soon!
@@OffgridwithJayandJen nice!
When are we gonna get a cabin build?
Soon....this was a priority
Good Job, just wondering if you're going to put the foam board on the doors? Or do they need it?
That's the plan
don't forget to insult the doors also
Insult the doors!?! What did they ever do to you???
sorry meant insulate
Lol
😀😆👍
Are you going to put foam board in the doors?
I think so

New array is on the way
That will keep the battery warm😂Jay
Ha....It is already staying toasty in there......I'm pretty happy about it
Hey Jay if you put in 500watt panel's you wouldn't need all of them panel's 😊

We did a cruise and land adventure trip in Alaska for our honeymoon. Fishing, glacier hiking and more.
@@OffgridwithJayandJen You might of visited Anchorage then?
You look a lot like Chuck Norris on this video. Yep a good spouse is key to what you do. You have a good woman. Get her things she wants.
😃 will do my friend. Thanks for the compliments as well. Best wishes

It it will get done.....eventually, lol

Not sure what you mean by this.
