Century Child is a very good album. Many songs are frequently played live.

This is currently my most listened to Nightwish song. Hope Tarja and Marko sing it when I see them live in September, it's so good! 🤘
Thanks, Eric! Great analysis! This is such a good song! One of my favourites from the Century Child album. This song is Marko's time to shine. Century Child was the first album with Marko. And you can see how present he is in it... I suppose Tuomas got really excited about having a proper male vocalist in Nightwish😅... we can't blame him. Marko is amazing!
And I loved Emppu on this track.

I recently watched a video on YT of Marko and Tarja performing live Dead to the World this year. And oh boy, do they still got it! The vocal power those two have!🤯

So..... This is some good old Nightwish. I miss them like that. I still listen to old albums, and i just think they are the best. When Floor sings the old songs, they still sound better than the newer albums... I just miss this style .

This was actually the song that made me pay attention to Nightwish.
Few years ago we were a road trip here in Finland, we went to see Koli (our national landscape) and then driving from north to home. Time stopped, Finnish summer night, my friend driving and I was drinking beer and we listened this song. Oh man, shivers goes down to my spine!! This album, Century Child, is my favorite from Nightwish. It is so emotional, dark, magical. Thank you for this reaction
Now I am going to see if I can find all of these old Albums of Nightwish, remastered and on CD's. That was the first song I have heard off of this LP...and it was fantastic. Emppu was freaking brilliant on this song...that solo was epic!!! I had an Emppu-gasm!!!

I enjoy the live performances of this song a lot, Tarja and Marko have great chemistry on stage 🙏🏽 I also love how soft and gentle Tarja's voice is in the verses here, such a beautiful contrast to the instruments and Marko's gritty, amazing vocals.

So glad you used the album track for this one. The live version is worth watching but it’s old. This is the album Tuomas wrote coming off a bad love affair. It’s one of my favourites. The contrast between Marko’s hard vocals and Tarja’s lighter tone here are what drew me to the band in the 1st place. Emppu is always perfect. Thanks Eric, great reaction as usual.
Tarja and Marko sing this song this year. I saw them on march. ❤ So much energy on stage. They didnt lose the magic.

@@vanessalore9942 because all the videos are recorded with a cell phone. I have videos too, but the sound is so loud that it can't be heard well and it seems like they are out of tune, but live I heard them better than ever. They sang Phantom of the Opera, Wish I Had an Angel, Dead to the World, Over the Hills and Far Away, Planet Hell (in other countries) and Tarja's songs: Dead Promises and Dark Star. They are going to continue the tour this year. They started in South America at the beginning of the year. That concert was the best thing that happened to me.

🤘Glad to see you did this one! Great analysis as always, and yet another Emppugasm. A lot of reactors are so fixated on Floor or Tarja they ignore the genius of the rest of the band as musicians. Even from your first reaction to Nightwish, you've always appreciated everyone. Nice to see. Keep on keeping on!
So true. I’m partial to Yukka on the drums but Emppu is well, Emppu. I just love watching the band interactions of every performance. Tuomas coming out behind his his keyboard to head-bang with the rest of them, for just one small example. Great fun!

Coincidentally I was listening to Century Child again today (in my usual fortnightly cycle) and was reminded how good the album is.
For a change of pace, that Tuomas is so good at, I was struck,bas I am every time, by Forever Yours.

Ooh yeah!! Thank you Sir for another amazing response and analysis. It's good old Nightwish. Century Child is my second favorite album after Once. Analog sound without hundreds of layers. Unfortunately it won't come back.

🤘🤘. Loved the video as always. I have been a NW fan since 1999. I wish NW would get back to this style of music. The new stuff is good but I long for yesteryear with this band.

One of my favourite songs (sometimes hitting #1 depending on my mood) from my favourite Tarja-era Nightwish album! Love it!
The Summer Breeze 2002 live version is great.
Yes! Love that performance, there's also a fan remastered version of the video . Great chemistry between Tarja and Marko. I love how Tarja looks at Marko when he starts singing, and later goes to him. Marko had joined Nightwish the previous year. Marko's vocals impress me even more live than on the studio version. A great song, but seldom reacted to, sadly.
Now that they have performed together again, "Dead to the World" has been on the setlist, all the time, I believe.

This is one of those underplayed songs by NW.
Whenever I listen it I feel like this was done when Tuomas was feeling angry at the world. 😅💀
Obviously I don't know what he felt when he wrote this song. But I can picture him angry when he was playing the demo's to this. Haha

After listening to this one (haven't heard it in a while) I really feel like Tuomas needs to take a few notches back to the past. I still love what the band is doing now, but there's no denying stuff like this is Nightwish is all about and what made me fall in love with them 25+ years ago.
I liked Perfume from the first listen but the more I hear it the more it sounds kinda let down. This however never gets old.
NW don’t tour this year, but this my come back on the set list Floor and Toamas

There is rare smartphone recording of "Dead to the World" live in Anaheim 2012 with Floor (on her very first tour with Nightwish) here: th-cam.com/video/gfg7EBjo22s/w-d-xo.html. Recording shows how brilliantly she fits to the band right from the start. Pure brilliance!
It's a shame Nightwish never officially immortalize "Dead to the World" with Floor. This classic track should of definitely been on the setlist of Decades tour 2018.

When Floor joined in 2012 it was on the setlist. So yes she sang this a few times.
When Foor sings it, the song sounds a lot better.
