📌 What are your thoughts? Is Adobe Audition on its way out now that Premiere Pro has integrated such powerful audio editing capabilities? Here's the link to download the audio workspace I used in this video: mrc.fm/ppaudio

I have run an Adobe Audition Facebook group for about 15 years. This question has been posted there a time or two. We do have Adobe reps in the group, but none have spoken up about this. I also reached out to a couple of them via email. Crickets. My question is- if they are abandoning Audition, and many of us simply want to keep using it, will they allow us to simply buy it and drop the senseless monthy/annual subscription fees?

    • @MikeRussell

I've been using the unsupported Fireworks CC version for 2 years now. It still works but it's a pain to reinstall it when I switch laptops. Adobe has yet to "officially" remove Fireworks from their CC app store but you have to dig for it. After seeing this? I have a strong suspicion Audition will join Fireworks this year OR Adobe will roll out an "Audition" version of Premiere for audio folks. It will be all the defaults set to edit audio, be branded as Audition, but under the hood... it will be Premiere. 🤠☕

Please add my vote to the idea of a standalone "The Last Adobe Audition version before it got integrated to Premiere"--- It's like the last CS6 versions. I will definitely buy that in a heartbeat. I hope you help us @MikeRussel to pass the feelers/interest to Adobe.

Please no; I’m a dedicated application kind of person. I don’t want things to do multiple things. My pone is just a phone, call and text is all it does. I have an audio player for just listening to audio. Mike! Glad to see you're still dishing the scoop on Audition and bringing up important topics like this. With the latest Premiere Pro, there's issues with the scroll bar zoom on windows with scaled displays. Absolutely wonky with the mouse scroll wheel, but "-" and "+" on the keyboard work well enough. They're dragging their feet on fixing this... I also wish they had all the editing by text and other fancy features also in Audition, with the addition of better auto marking and segmenting tools to help mark and cut the audio, even giving marker names suggestions based on AI audio analysis tools that could give appropriate descriptive tags. Generative tools for AI voiceovers would be nice too. Maybe even generative music tools. Yes I feel like they're neglecting Audition because it's likely only a small part of their user base, but that's just a guess. Thoughts?

Can it function as easily as Audition for multitrack recording?

Is there a way to duplicate all of the Audition functionality and keyboard mapping while using Premiere as an audio workspace, then switch back to Premiere mode (as it were) without having to change a million settings every time?

that works well ... until the point when you really want to work with the real Effects Rack like you do in Audition ... especially if you want to save effect rack preset ... you can't save plugin chains in Premiere Pro, you always have to manually put them in the mixer one by one ... at least you can copy plugins from on to another channel ... but in the end plugin workflow and performance with lots of plugins is not the same at all!

Thanks for raising this interesting discussion, Mike. As a long-time pod-docu producer, I've always been puzzled by Adobe's increasingly obvious decision to abandon Au at a dead end and their unwillingness to really invest in the audio production segment. Using Audition feels like using a kind of bipolar product: It's both fabulously great and surprisingly bad at the same time. With its remarkable audio processing muscles, it could easily be the best DAW on the market - if only Adobe had chosen to devote some serious development resources to fixing the annoying elementary bugs that make it so tedious to use for large and complex multi-track projects.
So why not? Is the audio market too small for Adobe? Don't they see the possibilities? Was CoolEdit coded in a way that proved to be a poor basis for further development? For a while, it looked like the reason might be that Adobe wanted to start from scratch, moving its audio development resources over to the AI-based Adobe Podcast. But now there doesn't seem to be much happening there either.
Wish someone could do some journalistic digging into this and that Adobe would open up and talk seriously about their thoughts on the audio segment for those of us in the professional market who are still trying to stay as their customers.

I'm not a fan particularly of "jack of all trades" software. At the moment, Premiere doesn't replace what I use AA for, however much it can be made to approximate the look and vague "feel". I don't do video editing at all and don't envisage ever doing so.
I've used AA and the product it used to be (CoolEdit Pro) for many many years. I never really understood why Adobe bought it out. AA has improved a lot, of course over CEP but it just doesn't "fit" with their product suite and never really has. It wuld be nice if they could just sell it to someone else to develop if they don't want to do anything further with it. Or release it as abandonware if they kill it off. They once released AA v3 for free for a while once it was redundant, after all.

I haven't looked at the beta as yet. I hope they've looked at the repeated requests to enable adjustment layers on a single channel, instead of work around or nesting. Always preferred Adobe software apps, but I can see a time coming where a cloud service that can do it all and for less $ will take the lead... It'll come down to price and functionality. Wasted my time watching this video for nothing. I just wanted to know if any new features like ai stuff or adobe podcast made its way into adobe audition yet. One of my favorite tools for chopping up audio files and just quick editing of audio especially since it loads up so fast compared to any other audio editing tool I own. I'm very much a noob tinkerer (for my own self-tapes and audition submissions). Because I don't use Premiere Pro or Audition daily (hell, not even weekly or monthly) I forget the little I've learned - plus I only learn what I need to to clean up my acting audition self-tapes. Hence I consider myself very much a "noob!" (For example, I'd never thought of creating a view for dealing with just sound in Premiere Pro or knew that was an option. I'm indeed very green but always in awe of the product's capabilities - which far out-span mine 🤣).
So please forgive my silly question: presumably all of those audio tracks will still sit in the general Project Panel so that if you flick back to the original Video Editing view you'll still see them and have access to use them with the film footage?
As for the risk of Adobe Audition being retired and jeopardising your TH-cam channel ... pfffft! You'll just keep showing people how to use the tools they have to achieve the same high standards as you already do 😏👍👍

I don't get it. Why use Premier Pro as a DAW and have to use Audition just for NR. These days there are plenty of very good open source and even much cheaper paid-for options (think Reaper) that have infinite tweaking capabilities, support for may more plugin formats, no subscription and no chance of Adobe dropping the software like a hot potato and leaving you high and dry.
Then of course there is DaVinci Resolve for video and audio and even Audacity for simpler audio projects.
All of the above "DAW's" (although technically Audacity is not a DAW) have fantastic plugins and noise reduction.
If the NR in those don't work for you, plenty of online options too and again, no need to be a slave to the whims of Adobe.

Thanks for your comment! 3.0 was really cool for sure.

The unique visual representation of waveforms in Adobe Audition allows for a more dynamic and precise editing experience.

Like after effects, audition is now a zombie product…… not dead, not alive. Same happens to adobe muse and other products from adobe. 1. no more updates. 2. wait until user base drops to very low. 3. the end of a era and act like it never exists in the first place.
